A disappointed customer, be warned.
Bought two large liquidambar trees as had bought one previously which was excellent. This time however both had had their growing shoots cut out making them like lollipops. One of them looked as though it had been kept in the box for a while as the top growing shoots were all bent over as obviously restricted. Sad but won’t be using them again.
Cyathea Smithii
I ordered a Cyathea Smithii on Wednesday and it arrived today, Friday. I am delighted with this plant, it is quite rare and I have been trying to source this for the past 2 years. Great service and thank you. Jeremy.

£40 for a plug which is not well…
£40 for a plug which is not well established to be sold. Died after a few weeks. Not worthy. Just to add that despite I have contacted the nursery as requested, I have not heard anything back from them.

Good service
It's always better to be able to be there, choose and buy. Not always possible , so I trust to buy on-line and hope. Generally very good service and when I have had issues they are very friendly on the phone to resolve.
Delivery costs are not cheap but the courier company is careful.

Excellent quality plants and well…
Excellent quality plants and well packed. Not delivered on date the courier notified, but Burncoose sorted things out very quickly and even phoned the next day to check plants had arrived. First rate service and a delivery charge of £20 for 8 shrubs in 4 boxes seems a bargain. Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent plant supplier
I have bought plants from Burncoose for several years now and have found the staff unfailingly helpful and efficient. I have also made use of their design service which I can also recommend. Very informative website too. Good luck to them for the next 40 years!

Standard delivery £13.95
Standard delivery £13.95, while the plant I wanted to buy was a pound more than that. I bought similar elsewhere with £8.95 delivery by APC Overnight. Burncoose won't get any business from me.

So helpful!
I had bought a special plant from another nearby nursery which had closed. My Rhododendron Fragrantissiimum was near death, so I called Burncoose hoping for a little advice, even though it was not their plant. The lady I spoke with WAS SO helpful, knowledgeable and generous, and now my plant is thriving. Thank you, Burncoose Nurseries!

Exceptional service
Exceptional customer service and exceptional plants. Plants are packed well, so if delivery drivers decide to throw them around, it stays protected and soil doesnt move. Great range of plants and if they dont have your choice, they do their best to locate and send at a later time

Disappointing!
I’m really disappointed with the quality of plants received via mail order. One of the plants in particular was full of dead leaves and looked in a sorry state. There’s absolutely no way that I would have picked this up had I personally visited the nursery. I won’t be using Burncoose again.

Very disappointed
Cotinus Coggygria Flame - The plant received had only just been potted into its 2 ltr pot and, therefore, had a very small rootball. When querying whether this plant was big enough to be planted out I was told to keep it in its pot until more substantial. This should be the Nursery's responsibility not mine. There was no label at all to say what the variety was. It could be anything. An expensive mistake. Will not use again.

Excellent products
Reference order: 287466
Excellent products, customer service let down by choice of courier who abandoned my order on the roadside 1/4 mile from the delivery address and made no attempt to contact me

First and Last Order
You clearly take a risk buying plants online that you haven't seen. You rely on the nursery providing good quality plants that match the description on their website.
The plants I received bore no resemblance to the photographs on Burncoose's website, other than being of the same species and variety. I thought they were poor plants. I would not have bought them had I seen them in person at a nursery.
Fantastic experience
Unlike some of the carefully photographed tiny poor condition plants you can get conned with online my 3 Fuchsia plants turned up with in 24 hours in absolutely magnificent condition about 1 metre high and already flowering - i cannot recommend these guys highly enough .

Again 5*
Shortly after a 5* order I recently made, I ordered this time a single plant - Hydrangea Gold Rush - which I was unable to get hold of anywhere else. As usual, the lovely plant arrived very quickly and expertly packed with not a leaf out of place. Yes, it cost £13.50 to have it posted but it arrived in a large box packed in such a way that not a grain of soil had escaped. This in contrast to another nursery I last week ordered from, paid £11.50 for a much smaller box and two of the three plants were out of their pots with soil everywhere. I think that the Burncoose P&P is absolutely reasonable given the quality of it and the fact that the plants arrive pristine.

Burncoose Nurseries - NO DEFINATELY NO
Burncoose Nurseries
My experience with Burncoose was not the best - would I trust them again NO - here's why:
I made my order first thing in morning on the internet.
Prior to this I rang the nursery to check the stock was definitely available first thing in morning (spoke to Claire who brusquely affirmed she was the manager).
I was told by this manger that the item was in stock (I waited while this check was carried out).
I made the order in the belief that what I was verbally told and communicated by email was true and it also said on the internet there was stock . It was not.
Burnoose Nurseries took the internet order and the money and confirmed the order by email.
When I rang back (the next day) I was told there were non of that product (said it sold very quickly so ZERO stock).
When I attempted to discuss this and explain my case (been on a list etc etc) I was shut down by various comments such as ‘plants are strange sometimes they are not in as good a quality as we would like to sell’ and other comments.
By this time several events had occurred:
- having waited on an email list for the item to arrive - also been told by the manager (verbally) it was in stock -- also had an email to say the item was in stock available to order - also my order was confirmed -also the website said there was stock - I was extremely disappointed to say the least. I felt cheated etc etc.
I wonder if I had not rang back the next day would I still be waiting for something that wasn’t there? It very definitely came across that this 'stock that sold very quickly' was already allocated to regular customers or it was never in stock in the first place.
Moreover when I rang I asked about the delivery charge – its £15.00 minimum charge and increases on a value basis – I put in the basket some other items to make the order ‘worthwhile’ when I did so this went up to £30! This seems a strange economic prospect as most charge less as the order value increases. So dis-economies of scale.
This means in my case it only made sense to order other items (i.e. than the ones I wanted) to cover off the £15 delivery charge (the whole order was just under £100). I still wonder if this is a trick to get you to make you order your wanted item and then add other items on…..only to receive for a whopping £15 delivery charge the other (secondary) items as the item you wanted is not really there …
I rang twice and asked for my full money back and confirmed my disgust at how they do business the trust had gone etc. I received an unspecified email with no amounts on. I asked again and eventually I waited for an email which confirmed the full amount is to be refunded. I await the refund …..
Would I buy from them again: NO DEFINITELY NO.
A complete con
I ordered 5 heuchera 3 litre plants. I received 5 3 litre pots filled with loose compost . The heucheras had no rootball at all. They had simply been put in a 3 litre pot. I doubt any of them will survive. I complained to the nursery. I did not receive a reply. A complete con and a waste of money.
