Using a password manager involves a high level of trust in the product - and Buttercup recognises this by putting all the control in front of the user. You own your password vault and its contents, all the way through to the encrypted file you can store wherever you like.

My go-to password manager

I had been using Chrome’s password manager for quite a while, but quickly ended up with an issue of being limited to only saving credentials for websites. This combined with the fact I desperately wanted to stop using Chrome as my primary browser made me look into the available options for password managers.

While researching the options I found Buttercup, which stood out for the fact it’s open source. It’s now been over a year and I haven’t looked back - I can be sure my credentials are safe, and I have all my secrets with me wherever I go, whether it’s on phone, my laptop or in browser.
