Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 100 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers reported issues with staff, describing their interactions as unpleasant and lacking politeness. The service was often criticized for being slow and careless, with long queues and staff who seemed disengaged or overwhelmed. Reviewers also frequently encountered problems with product quality, such as burnt cookies, lukewarm coffee, or unsatisfactory festive drinks. Additionally, many found the cleanliness of the locations to be poor, with dirty tables, flies, and stained seating. However, some customers also noted positive experiences, particularly regarding specific staff members who were described as friendly, helpful, and professional. These positive interactions often contributed to a more enjoyable visit and a good impression of the service. A few other people also felt that the coffee and snacks were of good quality, with some praising specific drinks or food items.

Caffè Nero Shrewsbury: The Latte Was Hot, The Toilet Was Hotter

Well well well, Caffè Nero. You walk in for a cappuccino, maybe a panini, and what you don’t expect is to be traumatised by facilities that look like they’ve been pulled straight from a Channel 5 documentary about abandoned prisons.

The toilet. My god, the toilet. A seat so piss-stained it could be carbon-dated back to the Crimean War. A seat so horrendously stained it looked like it had been forged in the urine mines of Mordor. Brown and yellow rings etched into the plastic like battle scars, each one telling a story of past horrors. You don’t sit on it, you challenge it. Honestly, I half expected the seat to sprout arms, grab me, and scream “YOU SHALL NOT PASS” while spraying me with urinal cake dust.

The overall vibe of the restroom was “abandoned service station in rural Bulgaria.” Pipes rattling, floor sticky, the faint aroma of despair. I’ve used portaloos at Glastonbury that were more sanitary. I felt like I Survived the psychological damage of knowing Nero could replace this monstrosity for £9.99 at B&Q, yet chose to let it fester like a relic of the plague era.

Caffè Nero, your coffee is fine. Your pastries are fine. But your toilets? An abomination. The piss-stained throne of Satan himself.

Staff were very rude towards myself as…

Staff were very rude towards myself as a customer so I left a negative review on their app and then I got an message from a staff member later that day asking me why I had left the negative review. This is not acceptable behaviour at all how this can be improved if you don’t have your staff contacting the members of public in regards to why they were given a negative review Caffè Nero Northallerton has just lost a very loyal customer.

Dont know how to make espresso

For me, Cafe nero used to the best 10 years ago so what happened? Now i only use them if there are no alternatives which prompted this review after a flat white and a latte there at one of their outlets at London Gatwick. Both coffees far too hot, couldn’t taste the coffee. Will continue to avoid wherever possible.

Volume of music is ruining everything

Volume of music is ruining everything! It is SO loud. Can't relax. Can't talk or listen to conversation easily. Baristas can't always hear what you say. What has happened to the gentleness of background music. Why has it become foreground. Caffè Nero never reply to any emails to ask them about this ( or even a hygiene issue I've raised ) No interest at all. Such a shame for a reputable coffee chain which was once very sophisticated and gentle. As a loyal customer for which this would be my favourite coffee chain, it is very disappointing.

Toilets are absolutely filthy

Toilets are absolutely filthy , rust on everything metal , every bit of plastic is stained yellow , toilet roll holder was smashed , tiles are yellow , literally anything white is yellow and stained , webs in the corner behind the toilet . I’ve never seen a place so ran down , how they pass any inspection I do not know because they certainly don’t get cleaned or taken care of . This was my first visit and certainly my last . The place as a whole is stinking .

This was honestly one of the worst…

This was honestly one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. I ordered a vanilla iced matcha and simply asked if it could be made with a little less ice and a touch more milk. Nothing complicated — just a small adjustment. Instead of being polite, the staff member serving me was dismissive and made me feel like I was asking for something unreasonable. Her attitude was unnecessarily rude, unhelpful, and it completely spoiled the visit. I wasn’t asking for anything extraordinary, just a minor change that other cafés have always been happy to accommodate without any problem.

Here, the service felt careless and unprofessional. For a brand of this size, it’s really disappointing to see such poor customer care.

I won’t be returning to this branch again and I strongly hope management addresses how customers are being treated here. Literally for two spoons of milk.

Dreadful staff attitude

Went to Cafe Nero in East Street, Chichester. The coffee was ok but we were sitting beneath air con unit. Maintenance man came but before we could move he’d moved the slats to clean them and all the dust/dirt fell onto us/our table. Staff attitude stank when told them. Said the man was just doing his job with a very insincere ’sorry ’. The girl had such a bad attitude, it was quite shocking. Lots of coffee shops in the area so won’t be going to Nero again.

Cash only

Last week I went into the one in Brindley Place in Birmingham which I go into regularly. There was a bit of a queue and when I got to the front I was told it was cash only as the card machine wasn’t working. It might have helped if they put a sign up to save queuing. Fortunately there are other coffee shops nearby so I went to Pret instead.

Portadown Nero at 4pm

Visit to Portadown venue at 4pm, mostly all clean seats/tables, soft background music and good coffee (extra shot requested).

Staff friendly and overall a very enjoyable visit.

Worlds worst cup of tea

I ordered an English breakfast tea from Caffe Nero Express at Heathrow Terminal 2 (arrivals) at the weekend. It was the worst cup of tea I've ever been served. It contained all the correct ingredients but the person who served it had no idea how to make a good cuppa. I think they must have put water and milk in the cup before the tea bag. It's a shame a coffee shop can't serve tea properly.

Review/Complaint

Review/Complaint – Ongoing Issue with Loyalty Stamps Retrospectively Removed

I’ve been a loyal customer of Caffè Nero and regularly used the app to collect loyalty stamps. However, I recently discovered that stamps — including completed stamp cards — were retrospectively removed from my account due to a technical fault that the company acknowledges was on their end.

Despite contacting NSR support multiple times over the past few months, I continue to receive what seem like templated or AI-generated responses that don’t actually address the issue: why I’m being penalized for a fault in their system, without notice or explanation.

I’m not disputing the current voucher policy. I understand that stamps aren’t awarded on discounted drinks going forward. What I take issue with is the fact that stamps already awarded in good faith were quietly taken away, and no effort has been made to resolve this fairly.

I’ve asked for this to be escalated to a human agent or manager, but so far I’ve only received copy-paste replies. At this point, I’m simply asking for some common sense and customer care: either reinstate the missing stamps or offer a goodwill gesture to acknowledge the inconvenience.

Very disappointing from a brand I’ve supported for years.

@CaffeNero – can someone from your customer care team look into this properly?

Kind regards,
Charles Todd
