Evaluating 100 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers reported issues with staff, describing their interactions as unpleasant and lacking politeness. The service was often criticized for being slow and careless, with long queues and staff who seemed disengaged or overwhelmed. Reviewers also frequently encountered problems with product quality, such as burnt cookies, lukewarm coffee, or unsatisfactory festive drinks. Additionally, many found the cleanliness of the locations to be poor, with dirty tables, flies, and stained seating. However, some customers also noted positive experiences, particularly regarding specific staff members who were described as friendly, helpful, and professional. Terrible service no response to email in 3+ months

Terrible service. Ignored by customer service about a simple question ‘are pets allowed on furniture or not’. 3+ months and still no answer.

Account deleted, I won’t go to a place where animals are allowed to rub their backside all over seats and tables, as I’ve seen.

Where the Hot Chocolate isn't Hot

York Monks Cross, well on Friday 8 November 24 was serving probably when it shouldnt have been. The Hot Chocolate I chose was the Millionaire and cost nearly £5 served in the paper cup because there were no regular indoor cups left. This was fine because there were no seats left. Now I happen to normally watch Barrista's whilst making my drinks. I like to receive an order that is commensurate with what I pay for. On this occasion I was asked if I wanted the cream. I would not have ordered the Millionaire drink if I hadnt wanted the decadent taste of chocolate cream or the toppings clearly on display. It appears I got neither. I do offer allowances, in this case paper cup and cap. So I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary until we had left the shop expecting what I had paid for when I was extremely disappointed. The Hot Chocolate was tepid. Not even warm. It clearly did not have the Millionaire factor. Far from it. I paid nearly £5 for a drink that I was extremely unhappy about. Unluckily for me Im Disabled and could not have returned as I was in extreme pain. Would I chance going to Caffe Nero again. Dont unless you watch them like a hawk and taste the beverage before leaving the store and taking them to task if there is a problem with your order

Every week for ten years. Never seen me before.

Have been going to Caffe Nero in Newcastle every week for ten years (at least). I get the same drink every week. It’s been customised over the years but that was encouraged by the staff- to get a drink I could only get in Nero. Served in a small Milano glass which you can only get in Nero. I get it in the Hexham store too- when I walk in they offer straight away as my usual. I pass 5 coffee shops to get to SMP Nero.

Today the server refused to serve me the drink that I always order. This server has served me it before but when I mentioned that I was told they’d “never seen me before”. Ten years, every week- never seen me before. I went through a period on maternity leave where I went in every day. And I made a point of still going in every week even though I’m not in Newcastle as regularly as I used to be. Just awful and to be honest quite upsetting- this was my little hideout when I needed to get away from the office. But alas I’ll never set foot in that place again.

Disappointed

Come on train your staff.
No idea how to make a hot flat latte. Took it back and got a scolding flat watery one instead.

Once a week I make a point of visiting Cafe Nero at Charing X Road just before Shaftesbury Avenue at least once a week. Its basement replete with leather sofas and easy chairs makes it so welcome and warm, like a home from home. And a special mention for the staff who are the best you’ll find anywhere (special shoutout too for Ricardo!).

Good coffee, tired stores, flaky app

I go to lots of different branches, and find the service, food and coffee pretty good. The chain is let down by two things - most of the stores look a bit tired and like they could do with a deep clean. Some can get very busy but you then find it's caused by people using them as a home office, making one coffee last three hours.

The other slight negative is the app, which seems fairly flaky, particularly if you're combining different forms of payment for the same bill e.g. two different gift cards, or one gift card and one card payment. Support from Teya isn't great if you contact them. I've even had staff members tell me the app is known to be temperamental.

The recent withdrawal of loyalty stamps for customers using a discount code was a bit of a PR disaster, as Nero blamed it on the app which should "never have given the stamps in the first place" apparently.

Lovely coffee and food but not enough comfy seating

I really like Nero’s but West Wickham and Oxted stores haven’t got enough comfy seating! Sitting in the gloom of the back under the cold air conditioning unit isn’t the best experience to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Love their mozzarella, tomato and pesto panini’s though 😊💜

I go into Cafe Nero in High Holborn London where I am served by Mira or a young Asian guy (I don’t know his name)
They are so friendly and welcoming. They remember my choice of drink ( Frappe mocha) every time and always have smiles on their faces. They are a great credit to your company so I thought I would share this with you. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for them both

Greedy, customer-alienating corporation

Caffe Nero have now removed loyalty stamps from the purchase of drinks using any type of discount code or voucher. The only reason any of their customers would need to seek a discount in the first place is due to their exorbitantly priced drinks, even charging for a fourth shot of coffee, which would otherwise be thrown away. And now the customer is being penalised for so doing with loyalty stamps being removed.
The mean-spiritedness and money-grabbing nature of this chain is increasing in line with its corporatised culture.

Nice coffee, bad loyalty programme and customer service

The cafes are fine - most are a little tired but the baristas work hard with what theyve got. They have a loyalty app replacing their paper based card, sadly the app and customer service from Teya are a joke. I haven't been able to set it up - due to some technical issue which tells me to contact customer service.

So far I've emailed in 3 times (they have no telephone number) and apart from a short 'were so busy message, I haven't had a response - that was nearly 2 weeks ago.

I've got free coffee and vouchers that I simply cant enjoy.

Astonishingly poor customer service.

I had a £20 gift card that didn’t work so the customer support just told me to bin it, as if that would solve the problem. Then they ignored all of my follow-up messages.

Beeston Nottingham bald barrista

Unpleasant and uncomfortable experience visiting the BEESTON cafe nero in NOTTINGHAM. The middle aged bald man with piercings and glasses is very rude and racist. He definitely speaks down to you if you are asian or chinese and treats the white customers differently. I've heard him yell at a group of Chinese people who sat down while the drinks were being made yet he couldn't do enough for some difficult white customers. Seen this on numerous occasions. He criticuses your order embarrassing you infront of the other customers. Nasty piece of work. We don’t need his opinion. He's paid to prepare drinks. Shameful of such a big coffee chain to employ people like this. Tbh there are a couple of other barristas who give off the same message at this store. You need to read the Google reviews as this man is mentioned repeatedly. I stopped going to this coffee shop months ago because of this man. I went back today and was met by the same terrible attitude.

Just wanted to say the staff at the ilkley cafe Nero are always nice usually just pick up a takeaway coffee sat in today and noticed how bad it was please please can this place be deep cleaned and refurbished. It’s so grimy and the toilets are absolutely awful. I’m sure even the staff would appreciate it if the place had a makeover so they could have a sense of pride in their cafe. It needs a professional deep clean.

Disgraceful approach to allergies! Not taken seriously

I have frequented Neros over many years on the horsefair branch and never have i been treated so disgracefully.
We ordered a vegan pastry slice fir my 4 year old daughter who has a serious allergy to dairy. I asked twice to be sure, that i had been served the correct item and that it was vegan and was told yes if course it is.
I got back to my car and gave it straight to my daughter but she said it smekt strange it was only when i got home that i realised that it was definitely not vegan. It is extremely lucky for Nero that she only had a corner of the pastry. Had she eaten it we would probably be tellimg a different story. To make things worse we returned to the shop the following day to ask why we had been served carelessly and the kids behind the counter thought it was funny.
I spoke to a young girl who could not care less about their negligence and there was no sign of an apology our caring attitude towards my daughter or us as customers.
We werent even able to get our money back on the item
Nero need some very serious staff training, its only a matter if time before they kill someone who has serious allergies. I wont be going bsck EVER
