Flexibility and native tutors
I have been using Cambly for a couple of months. My goal was to practice for job interviews in English. So far I have had only great experiences! I chose this platform because it gives me a lot of flexibility and I wanted to be 100% sure that the tutors are native. I haven't had any issues with customer service, they always reply super quickly...
New group lessons are amazing!
I have tested their new group lessons, and it is AMAZING! I got to experience real-life English interaction with people from different nationalities in a small group so with lots of speaking time and a great tutor to guide the conversation. I recommend Cambly to all my friends and family!
No available tutors
Tutors are rejecting and has no availability. Is it a coincidence to be rejected 6 times in the same time by the tutors?
Cambly is a company that employs exploited and poorly-treated people.
Cambly is a company that employs highly-educated and skilled professionals, but pays them well below the market average, and well below the minimum wage of most countries. There are no pay rises or bonuses, even for the most hard-working and successful employees.
The website is always plagued with technical problems, moreso now than before due to the introduction of a new classroom, that is no better than the current classroom, but more prone to crashing and other faults. If you experience these faults and are therefore unable to connect with a student you will receive a rude e-mail, telling you that it's "not a punishment", but your hours will be cancelled for 3-7 days. I would say that this is the worst company it has ever been my misfortune to work for, both inside and outside the education field. Don't work for Cambly!

An incredibly bad customer service that borders on fraud... on the web they say that they refund the money fully guaranteed and after conversations that took up to weeks to respond they did not even refund 30% of what they should have refunded me. There are much better alternatives so if you read this message please don't go with Cambly, trust me.

Teachers’ quality is bad
Teachers’ quality is not good. They are not willing to help with students’ personal goals. Especially after I booked lessons with a few teachers, one told me that it’s her 8-year professional experience that she won’t prepare for my class, “the most exciting topics come from students’ hobbies so pre-planned topics are impossible”. Another said, “Unfortunately I do have many students so I am not able to prepare ahead of class.” Most of the teachers claim that they will help students to achieve language goals in the video and seem so passionate about teaching, but at the end, the students have no right to decide the lesson, or they said “yes, sure! No problem! Sure thing!” to my requests, but ended up never fulfilling them in my lessons. No trial class so my money always goes down the drain. 4 months, what an exhausting journey in finding the right teacher in Cambly. Perhaps never will I be able to do so, so quitting is the only choice.
Another problem is NO SHOW. To avoid this problem, I actually always message tutors the day before the lesson to confirm their availability. However, tutors are really irresponsible that even if they promised to show up, they can end up never doing so and don't receive any punishment and I cannot leave a comment. Cambly explained that "something unexpected can happen". But isn't that "something" too frequent?
Oh! And customer service. Because my location is Hong Kong, they always arrange people from Taiwan to answer my inquiries in Chinese! However, my language setting is English. I’m not a native speaker of Chinese, so it can be very confusing for me, I write you in English, so why can’t just write me back in English?

More seriousness on the part of the tutors (or at least some of them) would be needed
I've been a Cambly tutor for 2 years
When I started on Cambly, it was fine. It's advertised to tutors as a place where they only have to converse, not teach. However, it seems that they advertise to students in an opposite manner. Students get on Cambly knowing nothing, others expect personalized lesson plans for grammar, IELTS practice, essay correction, etc. That wouldn't be so bad if Cambly would raise the pay, but that's another thing they refuse to do. So students expect you to spend hours creating personalized lesson plans for niche subjects, while Cambly pays peanuts, and lies in its' ads to professors. They also refuse to show you your reviews, so you never know what students might have rated you poorly for. If you don't know - you can't improve. They don't pay enough to live, and some teachers try to justify it by saying that they keep prices low for students. That's a lie. Students have told me that their subscription costs are going up, but is my salary? Nope. Oh, and don't worry, I didn't forget about the men who use Cambly to masturbate in front of poor unsuspecting women!
The tutors aren't trained at all
The tutors aren't trained at all. The one I had was eating and rude. She said something about not being paid enough and hung up. Their material looks like it was made in 1987 and is quite useless even with the best tutors on the platform.
Disappointed
Cambly terribly treated me. You cancelled all my reservations because of the VISA card problem. Then, a few minutes afterward, the money was successfully paid. But, I lost all my reservations. This has greatly affected my study and definitely my trust toward Cambly !!

Very low pay, but it works
I see some very polarized, emotionally charged opinions on here. So I'll try to offer one that isn't. In my years on Cambly, they provide exactly what they say. You can earn UP TO $10.20US/hr, if you manage to tutor the entire hour. This never happens unless you treat this like a fulltime job, set a schedule, book students for reservations, and put WAY more effort in than any job would ever require that pays so little.
If you simply log in, sign up for Priority Hours, and wait, you'll earn about $5/hr. This is an average that I've calculated over years. In the last few months, I've noticed that most of my calls get picked up by another tutor first. I don't understand why my "phone would ring" if someone else can pick up the call. I assume their algorithm and technology is always changing, but this is silly to me. And I suppose it's just a matter of demand and supply, but waiting and waiting and waiting.. is very boring. Most of the time, I don't use Cambly because it's not worth it. I can do basically anything else and earn more money (I earned twice the wage collecting dead palm leaves from my neighbor's lot, and I live in a small town where a peso goes far)
That being said, if you're really really bored, you can earn enough money to pay for some Doritos. They deserve 4 stars because they don't lie; they don't say you WILL make $10.20/hr. But not 5 stars, because generally speaking, tutoring on Cambly is much more effor than it's worth.. set up your room, get a nice background, fix your hair, put on a nice shirt, set the lighting, then wait...
If you have the patience for 3hrs of sitting there, you MIGHT earn $20.

I love Cambly.
Cambly has a lot of tutors to choose from with a wide variety of specializations. It is generally good to practice with a few different tutors in the beginning and settle down with the one you like. It is both fun and effective after. The sessions are a safe space for us to just focus on communication skills. The tutors are very supportive and make the sessions super interesting.
Cambly is also a subscription service. With one subscription, you can enroll in any of the courses offered.
