Bogus offer and fake promises

Bogus offer and fake promises on their website. Long story short. I entered my information on the website and did not spear any details. I accepted the offer thinking it will be sold. But i get an email the next day saying my car had a claim on it that is why they can not buy it but would rather trade it. My car is not rebuilt, there was a claim and repaired professionally. If i wanted to trade I would have told them. Not fulfilling the offer and not coming through to their words. Total waste of my time. Very disappointed. I am not dealing with these websites anymore. Worst experience. I will make sure i will be sharing my experience with everyone.

Terrible Experience

After perusing the Canada Drive website, I was very excited to trade in my 2011 vehicle and purchase a newer Hybrid Highlander. However, their trade-in calculator does not require any pictures to be taken, which I believe is mistake number one, since it gives you an inaccurate estimate. When I originally decided to place my order, my trade in was valued at nearly $7K, so I signed the contract and proceeded to make plans. When they called me the next day to ask questions about the trade-in, they asked simply "Do you have anything to declare about your vehicle?". I have an average knowledge of cars at best, so without any specific questions on their end, I at least knew to let them know that there was some rust on the wheel wells on one side of the vehicle - they told me to send them pictures of the wheel wells so they could re-appraise. The re-appraisal came back in at $5,250, and they asked if I still wanted to go ahead with it. Although frustrated that now I had to sign a new contract and put forth more cash, I agreed and suggested they ask for pictures as part of their initial appraisal in the future, so potential customers have all the info they need to make their purchasing/selling decisions.

The day of the vehicle exchange, the driver was prompt; however, instead of parking at the front of my house, he parked at the end of the street, supposedly so he would not block my neighbours. I insisted that they had plenty of room on both ends, should they for some reason come home within the next hour, and that I had a good relationship with them and it would not be an issue. But he insisted it would be better to park at the end of the street, so I had to drive my 4-year-old daughter to the end of the street to wait with me outside for an hour, instead of being in the comfort of her home. This made me feel like I was at a disadvantage, as this was not what I had prepared for. He took several pictures of my vehicle and sent them to head office while I inspected the new vehicle, whose floor mats were put in incorrectly and I had to fix them. I then got a call from the office that they had received pictures of rust on the bottom interior of the doors, so it would need to be re-appraised, costing me an additional $900 so they could replace 3 of the doors. They said that I had failed to disclose this rust that I "see every day," to which I responded that this was the first time I had ever noticed this small amount of rust, and had I known it would be an issue (i.e. if they had asked me to take pictures of other places on the vehicle or asked to me to look at specific places that are known to have rust), then I would have let them know ahead of time and we would have figured it out before I was waiting at the end of the road to complete the vehicle exchange. I told them that their updated offer was lower than 2 other dealerships that I had taken the vehicle to who looked at the entire vehicle, instead of just a few pictures, and I asked if they would not change their appraisal value, could they simply reduce the price of the new vehicle by $900 so that I could submit my bank draft to them without having to come up with extra money, and they said that wasn't possible. Their new offer was $4,350, and if I didn't want to sell at that price, I would need to come up with an extra $6K to pay for the new vehicle. I asked to speak to a higher level manager, to which the man on the phone replied that they were all in a meeting and were unavailable. All of this occurred at the end of my street, with my young daughter around, with much time spent on hold. At the end of the final conversation, I chose to cancel the deal. I felt that I had been scammed and put at a disadvantage to accept less on my trade-in than it was worth, and the customer service I received was very poor. I did not feel that they deserved my business at that point, and I was extremely disappointed with how the transaction turned out.

I do not recommend this business to anyone who has a trade-in vehicle, unless they change their procedures to ask for more pictures up front and are very clear about what you need to disclose. Had they offered me $4,350 originally (after asking for more pictures), I would have turned down their offer up front and saved myself a bunch of time and effort coordinating the delivery, updating my insurance, and getting a bank draft.

Hi Lindsay,

We are sorry to hear your experience was anything less than positive, customer service is our top priority and we would like the opportunity to address your concerns. We appreciate your feedback about our appraisal system and we are currently working on improving our algorithm and questionnaire to better evaluate the vehicles. Unfortunately, our driving team is not able to block residential entranceways or streets instead, they are instructed to find the best area to park the truck and trailer as close as possible to the delivery address. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused you, we try our best to be as accommodating as possible. In terms of your re-appraisal on delivery, all trade-in vehicles go through a quick checklist completed by the driver to ensure all damages are disclosed and the value of the trade-in is accurate. All vehicles are manually reviewed for accuracy and the value is subject to change upon the discovery of any incorrect information. Unfortunately in this case with the additional rust our driver discovered on delivery, your trade-in vehicle required a re-appraisal by our appraisal team which is why the value was dropped by $900 on delivery. We understand your frustration and again, we are sorry for any inconvenience this caused you. If you have any further questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to us directly and we would be happy to assist you.

I had to sell my elderly father's car since he can no longer drive. Canada Drives was a pleasant experience from start to end. John Dooling was fantastic as well as Mohammad Younes the pick up driver. I 100% would recommend them to anyone looking to sell or purchase a car. All in all it was a fantastic stress free experience for me and all the staff I interacted with. Pete Jessup

Great experience

As a first time seller, Canada Drives made the whole process as easy as it could get. In particular, I found the sales executive, Annie, really helpful. She was very quick to respond and resolve any concerns. Also I found the representative who came to pick up the car, Lovejot Singh, very diligent and caring. Compared to other competitors, Canada Drives stands in a different league.

No easy way to unsubscribe or delete account

The Canada Drives website is fine and helped me in my search to find a new vehicle. Once I had purchased one however, I wanted to unsubscribe from emails and delete my account, but there is no unsubscribe button, and no article on their help centre on how to delete an account or unsubscribe. This shouldn't be difficult to do.
Update: they unsubscribed me and pointed out that some of their emails have unsubscribe buttons, just not all of them (not the one I was looking at initially).

Don't Expect to Get a Callback to Discuss Selling Your Car

One week ago, after inputing all my vehicle information, I was provided with the price Canada Drives would pay me for my BMW. I accepted their offer.

After 4 days of not hearing anything back I left a callback number using their automated system. No response. I repeated this the following day. No response back so I left an email.

The email response I got back was unsigned except for "Regards".In their message this unnamed person said
"Hi Gordon,
It looks like an agent tried reaching out a few times but your vehicle doesn't qualify for purchase due to a high claim total on the CarFax. It would qualify for a trade potentially though"

This is (being generous) incorrect. All my telephone lines are monitored and nobody called from Canada Drives. Not only that the CarFax information he/she quoted is also (being generous) incorrect. I am in receipt of my own CarFax Report #*****939 and it shows "No Records Found"

**UPDATE: Canada Drives provided a recent CarFax report which does show damage sustained in 2018 prior to my purchasing the vehicle. I contacted CarFax and received an explanation about not getting data inputs in a timely manner. Guess it means that a CarFax report is not the final say on whether a car has been in an accident.
This doesn’t change the fact that Canada Drives did not return calls in a timely fashion. Had they done so much of this could have been avoided. I have changed my rating from 1 star to 2 stars. **

On September 19 I sent the above information back to this phantom person and asked that they respond back to answer to the points I made and I suggested that perhaps someone has mixed up these reports.

To date nothing.

Poor customer service would be understated.

**2nd UPDATE
I was personally contacted by the manager and as a gesture of goodwill they have agreed to buy the car, albeit at a slight discount, given the "damage" issues that have arisen with this sale. The problem was not of their doing as it was a CarFax data upload matter so their response is quite refreshing.

With all that has gone on, with the exception of the the lack of returning my calls (which I'm advised will be reviewed in-house), I'm happy with Canada Drives responses to my concerns.**

Great experience all round

I listed my vehicle on Marketplace to test the waters and received a reply from someone that was interested. The buyer then explained that he works for Canada Drives and set the ball rolling. I gave them a tough time, asking a lot of questions to ensure it was all legit. The offer they made based on my info and photos remained the same even with the disclosed damages. It was amazing, because from past experience you always get less out than the dealer says. Within a week it was all done, vehicle collected and so professional. The whole team is great, well supported and I would recommend looking at their services if you want to sell your vehicle. Thank you team Canada Drives Airdrie.

Hassle-free car sale for a great price

I sold my car to Canada Drives, who paid 20% more than the dealership where I used to take the car for maintenance. I called them on Friday, their associate explained the sale process very clearly, I delivered the car on Saturday and got paid on Monday. Absolutely no issues, I would definitely sell to them again!
