Beer Run 21-
Beer Run 21-What a great day albeit very tough, I would def recommend some hill training. I found the cut off time very tight and would not have made it if it hadn't been for the sweeper, Mike talking me through the last lap, which I was about to give up on due to the hills which got steeper each lap.
I cut it very close to say the least ,downing my last beer 🍺with 50 seconds to spare.
It's a lovely course and I will be back next year, and make sure plenty of Hill training before.
BIG Thankyou to all involved
My first successful trail marathon
My first trail marathon. Supported beforehand when e mailing about what to expect from the day.
Friendly and the canary add on helped relax you knowing people who enter have a fun side. The route was sign posted well making navigation simple. The views truely magnificent. The terrain was mixed and hard in some parts, making the challenge a " challenge" but plenty of short flats to recovery before the next climb and trickyish descent.
The feed stations very good, met with big smiles, shouts of encouragement, bananas, sweeties, and other munch to help fuel along the way. The feed stations help to break down the challenge ahead into bite size runs, which was mentally supportive too.
The public and mountain bikers were friendly, with smiles and cheers of support.
Cheers at finish and photos, and the volunteers making hot drinks and asking how you were and checking you are OK, again so many smiles!!
I love that the event was small and personal. Great atmosphere, and entering their next event copthorne and next years again.

Events by Runners for Runners
I’m writing this review after completing my 2nd Canary Trial Event.
My first was the Copthorne. I chose the 50km distance, which is the shortest available. I’m not sure my knees will ever allow me to have another go, however that said, despite the event being ridiculously brutal, everyone at Canary Trials is supportive, friendly and want you to succeed.
My most recent event was their Surrey Hills Marathon. Again, a really friendly bunch of individuals, well priced, easy parking, clear instructions, well-marked course, good GPX, great aid stations, lovely volunteers, a positive and supportive vibe, fantastic trails and some great bling to take home too.
The Surrey Hills Marathon was my 4th event in 5 weeks and was definitely the most enjoyable.
Sadly, there are many corporate machines out there prioritising profits over runner’s experience, Canary Trial Events are certainly not one of these, they're runners, providing events for runners.
Exactly how it should be.

Fantastic running company and event
A fantastic small running company creating challenging trail routes and races while making them as accessible and entertaining for people as possible.
Very friendly, helpful and experienced team. This year I joined the headtorchmarathons guided night run but next year who knows...
The friendliest & most inclusive race…
The friendliest & most inclusive race company out there
Highly recommend!
7th Annual head torch marathon
7th Annual head torch marathon - this was my first Canary Trail event, it was a social guided trail marathon run through the night. I had a fantastic time! The event was well led, even when unexpectedly closed paths forced off the cuff detours! A welcome stop mid way for water refills and snacks. An event I will definitely be adding into my annual race diary! Looking forward to exploring what else Canary Trails have to offer
Fantastic event
Fantastic event. Very welcoming for new runners. Cheery volunteers and snack table every 10 miles. It’s a step-up from things I’ve previously run, but the loops provide good familiarity with the route during daylight hours before darkness descends. The event organisers have a sense of humour and raise money for local charities, so it’s a win-win whether you reach your target or not! I thought the requirement to bring a canary was a joke… it isn’t; don’t forget!
Copthorne races
Copthorne race: A race devised with a mixture of love and devilment! Consists of 10.3 mile loops which are picturesque but tough over north downs way and surrey hills. Very well looked after by the marshals and race director- most excellent hot food served and a must do race.
Not for the feint hearted
Copthorne 50km - 2019 (trustpilot doesn't go back that far)
Not for the feint hearted or undertrained
Their events are definitely on the harder end of the spectrum on the copthorne races you have such descents as Kamikaze an "interesting" descent and Goodnight Sweetheart because it you lose it there then I is quite literally goodnight sweetheart.
And there are the ascents, how can you fit so many completely different steps into a single 10mile loop, and the less set about Satans Staircase the better.
If you really want to understand how fit you really are get to the end of season Copthorne Races.
