Absolutely terrible experience with this car rental company.

Before we even picked up the car, they “upgraded” us to a much larger vehicle we never asked for or wanted. On top of that, the replacement wasn’t even a hybrid like the original booking advertised. The man at the desk was dressed very unprofessionally and acted extremely laid back and careless, which made the whole interaction awkward and uncomfortable from the start refusing to speak to me in English and going through my partner instead.

Things only got worse after we got a nail in the tyre. We were then told we had to pay an outrageous 4,000 PLN fee to replace two tyres, despite their own website clearly stating that punctures could simply be repaired. Staff repeatedly insisted we had no choice and kept changing their explanation.

They kept claiming 100% that two tyres had to be replaced and that we would be charged the 4,000 PLN fee, only changing their story when we threatened further action and requested legal documentation proving their claim. This entire situation ruined two days of our holiday, leaving us unable to use the car at all and with no real support from the company whatsoever and meaning we are owed 2 days of car rental.

The moment we mentioned involving a lawyer and demanded legal documentation and proof explaining why two tyres supposedly had to be replaced, they suddenly changed their story and admitted repairing the tyre was acceptable after all.

Completely dishonest, misleading, and unprofessional service. I would strongly recommend avoiding this company.

they rent cars through agencies and ask you to sign copy that the car is not scratched etc. Then they say that you have signed “ out of hours service “. Be aware. Scam company !

I am very disappointed with my experience with CarFree.

I rented a car at Szczecin in Poland and after returning it I was charged around 4,000 PLN for alleged tyre damage caused by a nail. I believe this charge is unfair and not properly justified.

The damage was clearly accidental and part of normal road use, yet I was still required to pay a very high amount without receiving clear, transparent documentation explaining how this cost was calculated.

I also feel that the process was not properly explained at the time of rental, especially regarding potential charges for tyre damage. The lack of clarity and transparency has made this experience very frustrating.

I do not accept that such a high charge is reasonable in this situation, and I believe customers should be fully informed about all possible costs before renting

I had very disappointing experience with this company. Started well with good price & communication but ended up with the company taking deposit 3 times, once blocking money on my credit card & twice actually taking money out of my account. It took a while for money to be returned & when they did they returned less than what they took out. They promised me refund & vouchers in compensation but I have not had either! Therefore I would not use or recommend them at all after this experience.

Communication was fast online but also at the airport counter. This is the 3rd time i am getting cars from car free and the cars are always in very good condition.

I hired a car at Wroclaw Aiport at easter 2026.

I forgot my credit card and a debit card would not be accepted. I had to pay 900PLN for an insurance policy which then made my debit card fine somehow. I had to sign all the documents at the office before seeing the car.
The fuel tank was not full, which was noted by Carfree representative. He stated that he would put a note on the system and to take the photo of the fuel gage (which I did) and to returnm the car with roughly the same amount of fuel later.
When I drove to the airport, I had to use the wind screen wipers - there was no wiper fluid (the documents I had signed stated it was full, same as fuel).
I informed the representative of this when returning the car, and showed him the photo of the fuel gage. This was all acknowledged, we inspected the car together and there were no further questions, I asked if that was all, and it was confirmed.

A few weeks later, I get contacted by my bank as CarFree are trying to take money from my acocunt and this is flagged as scam! A day or so later I get an invoice to pay for breaking the car hire agreement by not retuning the car with a full fuel tank. I emailed CarFree explaining the circumstances. There has been no response, but a few days later I got an email from a debt collecting agency. The case is still open, I had no response from CarFree. I did not break any agreement and yet I am chased and threatened by a debt collecting agency.

Important warning for foreign customers: this company did not accept my credit card because it did not show my full first name and surname on the card (only initial + surname). Because of this, I was forced to purchase their full insurance package, which significantly increased the final price.

Overall, the service and customer experience were average. Communication and the car return process felt somewhat unprofessional at times. On the positive side, the car itself was new, clean, and worked perfectly during the trip.
