Edit* After writing the below review a customer service agent reached out and corrected the mistake and they refunded the ~$130 that I had been overcharged at the counter. So I raised the score to 3 stars because I wish it hadn’t happened to begin with but they did correct the mistake quite promptly once they recognized the mistake.

I wouldn't recommend using them. I always like saving some money on a car rental but it backfired this time. They gave an "estimated" amount that the car rental would be, but it’s not confirmed with the rental company (Hertz in my case). So we arrived at the Hertz counter and the actual amount was a 130 USD more expensive than what CarRental8 had guessed. Would have been better and cheaper to book through Hertz directly

Have canceled our booking due to needing a bigger vehicle and haven’t had any confirmation of the cancellation, so doesn’t look like I’m getting a refund as I have emailed and when I called they answered and as I started talking about this they hung up and can’t get hold of anyone now!

DON'T USE. I HAVE REPORTED FOR FRAUD TO MY BANK.
They took my money. I have contacted them several times. No reply. The day I booked I called the hire company they confirmed the car was not available and should have never been sold. ALSO hidden charges. They sold a product that was never available. I have contacted them from the day I booked and heard nothing. They have been reported for fraud. Carrental8 give me my money back

Don't let the funny name and funky UI fool you. They are totally legit, and got me a great rate through the car company I rented from (ended up being Avis). Great experience!
Do not use this company. I hired a car in Naples through this company and the car was unavailable when I arrived. I had to book and pay for a new car in full and was told to email them using my documentation to prove what happened and get a refund. They didn’t reply for over a week. You can’t phone them. Now they have replied they are making it extremely difficult to get a refund saying they don’t refund on the day of the car hire even though there was no car to hire.

On April 3 I gave a 5 star review to this company. However, getting the rental was actually horrendous. Despite assurances I had to call multiple times for them to pick me up at the airport. ( the company was NOT airport based, as per my request) Then, the actual car company told me that due to my age it was an additional $115 ( 3 day rental) Interestingly on the website it was only $10 a day. They also wanted my private insurance company information because I did t buy their personal liability plan. As this was gong on I called CarRental8 and instead of them offering to intercede on my behalf, he said he wrote my complaint down, Then, she I refused to sign a blank contract ( I wanted mileage and fuel status filled in first) the company refused to rent to me! I am trying to figure out how to get a refund.
I am adding this paragraph in response to their reply below. A. Yes, I booked online and did not know the company in advance. I indicated AND it says on reservation “airport”! I did not want to deal with shuttles.

There is a similar situation posted here dated June 15th 2025 for a carrental8.com. I woke up this morning a day before my trip to Boston from Los Angeles and received an email saying that my car rental with Avis had been canceled for no apparent reason. I did not cancel this reservation and I had no reason to. I emailed three urgent emails to this company and I had not heard back from them as of this moment 14 hours later. They do not have a customer service telephone number and the ones that you read online are all false. I called Avis to see if they had a reservation for me and they said no they did not. So I'm stuck making a very expensive 'last minute' reservation with only 36 hours advance notice that now cost me a $775 instead of $465. If you ever had to make a last minute reservation for a plane, a car rental company or a hotel you know how expensive that can be. I have to pony up another $300 and I have no reason to understand why or who canceled my reservation. Obviously, if this is happening to at least three people- I read another similar post situation about this company on another similar website-- that should tell you enough not to book with this company. No, nbody broke into my laptop so that's not the issue. I even spoke to Avis 3 days ago about my reservation on another matter and they had it in their system. I would be very suspect in the future when a company particularly car rental company or a third party travel booking company does not have 24-hour telephone customer support. Because when you need to contact them immediately if there is a resv. issue and there's no one there to help you, you should be wise to the idea the company is probably underserved with not enough money to install a telephone system and hire employees. Their website looks also looks a little suspect and a bit cheesy---it doesn't look very professional or the real deal. Again, do not take the risk when they're three people here who have posted the same situation with uninitiated cancellations in the past 16 days. And that's just the ones who took the time to post.

Difficult to connect with Customer care. I have a booking which I needed to inquire. As I am not getting any reply from CarRental8 I connected with supplier AVIS who told me that my booking is cancelled. CarRental8 portal still shows Confirmed booking and there is no reply from their customer care. Not sure whom should I connect to or if my booking is cancelled by them how will I get refund?
Update - Thanks for reply. I also received an update from AVIS now which says all the 3 bookings are cancelled of which 2 we're not paid and one paid which they have asked for refund. Can you check with them as this should not be cancelled.
Update 2 - CarRental8 is still saying my booking is confirmed but when I connect to supplier AVIS they say my booking is cancelled. I need an confirmation from AVIS about my booking. Still not getting a proper reply.
Update 3 - Due to some reasons I had to cancel my booking with them and the customer support helped me cancel the booking and issue me a full refund.

I used Car Rental 8 (booking number: #5866171) to book a car in Naples, Italy.
The only good thing I can say about it is the fact that renting process is easy on their website. However, they have hidden fees, which are displayed after purchase. I bought full insurance but after I got the confirmation email, I've been told I need to pay £500 deposit when I will pickup the car. They send me a list of what I have to pay in case of a damage to the car. This information should be available before renting, not after. They send an information that I need a international driving license to drive in Italy, which is untrue for someone coming from the UK. They said notify us if you plane is late, to make sure they keep your car. My flight was delayed, I notified them, just to get a reply next day, asking me if I manage to get the car. Despite having full insurance, I've been told by the rental company that in case of any damage to the car, I have to pay them and recover my money from the broker. And the most annoying fact is they are working with companies that have bad practices: the rental company just handed me over the keys for the car saying they have already the records of any damage and they will check it when I am coming back. I took a lot of pictures and a video to be safe. When I returned the car, if I didn't have those pictures and the video, I was paying for damages that I did not cause. Next time, I will avoid this company in the future.

I live in Melbourne, Australia. Booking through in company to awful they have no customer service in Australia. So you have to call them in their hours in America. Which by then is not useful. We had a problem with our booking and ended up cancelling everything and rebooking. Asked for our money back still waiting.

We used carrental8 for a SFO car rental in April. We made payment to them and were directed Fox Car Rental. Fox Rental is off site and when we booked with them it stated on site airport car rental. Fox charged additional transfer fee back to the airport. Our payment to Carental8 total amount was not reflected on the Fox final rental invoice. I communicated with both companies on the discrepancy several times. Only replay from carental8.com was “ that is our profit .” I
Would not use their service due to this discrepancy in Transfer of funds. Fox Car Rental Attempted to charge us for previous wear and tear on our rental car, luckily we had taken pictures of the rental and of the slip where we identified the defects. I would not recommend Fox Rental either

So, booked a car, came to pick it up, had issue with credit card, so i've been told to use my debit one - done.
500 USD deposit made and then i hear that i can't use debit for deposit - makes sense, called car rental8 , they told me that no changes can be made and i should cancel my reservation without getting any money back for booking - once again, my fault, makes sense. But then i've been advised that deposit will be released in few hours... so my long journey begins here. Cant reach out rental company, had not a single response to my emails , if i manage to call them - being thrown between departments hearing same thing - "we escalated issue and we will get back to you" which never happened, overall - i'm at fault about booking, but customer services are just insanely ignorant.

After renting the vehicle and I needed to do an extension it took me three days to have any body to answered the phone at number 404-704-0910 EXT 11. At the third the individual that answered the phone hung up on me before the conversation was over and before the issue was resolve. My reservation was for 21 day with a total of $684.29. I needed an extension for six day and they charge me $376.39. I asked for an extension not a new contract. Why did they charged me $376.39 for six day is above me. Between 21 days and 6 days the charges don't match. On line states that there will be a charge for going out of state, but never mention that the charged were going to be $16.99 for day? Come on the is outrageous. They lowered it to $12.99 after I complained about the stiff charged. After reading your contract, it states that was authorized 200 miles daily out of state, but the next paragraph states maximum miles per rental period was 2500 miles. Is it 200 miles out of state daily or 2500 miles for a rental period. Never in my 26 years service in the military and many rental vehicles under my belt did I rent a vehicle that states unlimited milage and then comes out with a limit that's is not clear at all. Because the way I was treated, I can honestly tell you that I learned my lesson and that I don't think that will ever rent a vehicle from ROUTES ever again.

This is an update to my last review of CarRental8 regarding my experience with them/Hertz on or about April 8, 2025. I promptly received multiple emails from Hertz and autoeurope apologizing for my bad experience at the Hertz counter in Frederick Douglas International Airport. They even gave me a partial refund. Admit I was overwhelmed with the response to the point that I was willing to extend my rental term. There were no further issues with my rental, and on my return, the service was actually excellent. I would definitely consider using them again.
It was very easy to reserve my car with no issues.
Terrible company. Useless support, that is mocking their clients. They dont know theyr work hours and and can’t figure out what is their work. Trash. Dont use their services, cuz its a scam. 0 of 10.
