Really poor experience, very little customer service.

They let absolute scammers sell nonsense, or run insurance scams on their shipping. I’ve had a few experiences of extremely poorly packed delicate and fragile items arriving in absolute pieces, the sellers have the items insured for far more than I paid for them. Catawiki do not seem to care. They do not care if their sellers sell items that don’t remotely match what actually arrives, that hide flaws, that hides dirt.

They will also delete reviews if they don’t like them, so you are not getting an accurate reflection of what’s actually happening on this site as they sensor people who are not happy with the service they receive

Just a really really poor way of operating, and I will never use these people again. One or two bad experiences here and there when you’re buying secondhand and vintage stuff, I understand. But it is non-stop crap from these guys.

Hi Dee,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experiences on Catawiki have left you feeling so disappointed.

We understand how frustrating it is when an item arrives damaged or does not match your expectations, particularly when it involves fragile objects that require careful packaging and handling. We take reports about shipping issues, item condition, and listing accuracy seriously, and we have processes in place to review cases where an object arrives damaged or is significantly different from its description.

We would also like to clarify that reviews on Catawiki are not removed simply because they are negative. All reviews are carefully moderated to ensure they comply with our review policy. If a review is reported as potentially unfair or in violation of our guidelines, it is reviewed thoroughly and may be removed only if it does not meet our standards.

You can find more information about our review policy here: https://www.catawiki.com/en/help/buyer-terms/review-policy

If there's something specific you’d like us to look into, our support team is here to help. You can always reach us via our Help Centre:

ONE BIG SCAM

I bid on the watch, but the seller said he wouldn't sell it because he had changed his mind. Catawiki wrote that the person no longer sells from them, which was a lie. At the same time, I was bidding on a second item from this seller. Catawiki claims that the fraudster no longer sells there, but wants money for an item from a fraudster who, according to them, does not sell there... A platform that cheats and robs people. Zero contact with customer service. Especially when there is a problem. Do not buy anything through them because they only support fraudsters and are unable to cope with what is happening to them. If you want to waste time and money, Catawiki provides it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND

Hello Lukasz,

We are sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating this situation must have been.

Please note that when a seller decides not to complete a transaction after an auction has ended, this is taken very seriously. Sellers are expected to honor their listings, and failure to do so may result in restrictions or removal from the platform. In some cases, a seller may still have active listings while an investigation or account action is in progress, which can cause confusion.

Regarding your concern about being asked to pay for another item, each auction is handled separately. If you have doubts about a seller’s reliability, we strongly recommend contacting our support team before proceeding with payment so we can review the situation and assist you appropriately.

We also regret that you felt unsupported. Our goal is always to provide clear communication and fair resolutions. If your issue has not yet been resolved, we encourage you to reach out again through our help center so we can take a closer look at your case.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

UPDATE – More Than Two Weeks Later, Still No Resolution

I am updating my review because, despite Catawiki publicly responding to my complaint and assuring me that my case was being handled, absolutely nothing has been resolved.

After my original review was posted, I was contacted and told that the matter had been escalated to the appropriate team. I was even in direct communication with a member of Catawiki's management team on LinkedIn, who explicitly stated that my case had been forwarded internally and that assistance would be provided.

However, despite these assurances, I have received no meaningful help, no explanation, no resolution, and no restoration of my account.

This is what concerns me most:

My seller account was suspended without warning during an active auction.

An item that had already reached €140 and was nearing completion was disrupted.

No reason for the suspension was provided.

No evidence of any policy violation was presented.

Public replies were made promising action, yet no actual action followed.

Management representatives acknowledged the issue, yet the situation remains unchanged.

At this point, the issue is no longer merely the account suspension itself. The issue is the complete lack of transparency and accountability.

What is the value of a public customer service response if it is not followed by actual support?

What is the value of escalation if the responsible teams never provide a resolution?

What is the value of contacting management if management cannot ensure that legitimate seller concerns are addressed?

I joined Catawiki because I believed it was a professional auction platform. Instead, my experience has been one of unexplained account restrictions, poor communication, broken promises, and weeks of inactivity.

I am still waiting for:

A clear explanation for the suspension.
A formal review of my account.
Restoration of access if no violation occurred.
Compensation for the disruption caused to my active auction.

Until these questions are answered, I cannot recommend Catawiki to other sellers.

Potential sellers should be aware that approval as a seller and expert acceptance of an auction item do not guarantee account stability. Your account may be restricted without warning, and obtaining meaningful assistance afterward can be extremely difficult.

I will continue updating this review until a genuine resolution is provided.

Hello Stephanie. Thank you for updating your review and for your continued patience. We understand your frustration and completely acknowledge that receiving assurances without a timely resolution is incredibly disappointing.

We sincerely apologize for the delay. Due to a high volume of inquiries, our response times are currently longer than usual, which is why we have not provided you with the swift, transparent answers you rightfully expect. We understand how disruptive this is, particularly regarding the auction that was nearing completion at €140, and we deeply regret the impact this has had on your experience with us.

Please rest assured that your case has not been forgotten or ignored. You will receive a request shortly asking for more information about this experience. Once we have this information, we will forward it directly to our specialized customer support team so they can review the details surrounding your suspension and contact you with a comprehensive answer.

Dear Dennis,

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you feel our platform is heavily weighted in favor of buyers at the expense of our sellers. As a dual-sided marketplace, our goal is to create a balanced, safe ecosystem for both parties, and we know that we cannot succeed without a thriving, protected community of sellers.

To ensure fairness, we have several structural protections in place specifically designed to safeguard our sellers:

Our Escrow payment system protects you just as much as the buyer. We require the buyer to deposit the full payment into our secure account before we instruct you to ship the item. This completely eliminates the risk of you shipping an item and never receiving payment.

Buyers cannot simply demand a refund because they changed their mind. If a buyer opens a dispute, our team of over 240 in-house experts and dispute specialists reviews the evidence objectively. If the item matches your descriptions and photos, we reject the buyer's claim and release your funds.

We provide sellers with direct access to millions of international collectors. Our experts help optimize your listings to ensure your items are accurately appraised and presented to generate the highest possible market value.

We want to ensure your selling experience is smooth and profitable. If you have recently encountered a specific issue with a dispute, a payout, or a listing rejection where you felt unsupported, please reach out to us via our Help Centre. We are more than happy to review your case and ensure your voice is heard.

Sincerely,

Awful "expert"

Hi
One of yours "expert" Benedikt Reichl made changes on my description without to discussed with me, also all the times he ask to remove the reserve price for items which has certificate and are over €500
I will appreciate a little bit more PROFESSIONAL attitude if this "expert" has knowledge to do it.

Also will be glad if Trust pilot not remove the review

Regards

Hi Ruge,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear you feel this way about your recent experience with one of our experts.

We understand how important it is to feel involved and informed when it comes to your listing, especially when changes are made to the description or when guidance is given about reserve prices. Our experts may suggest edits to ensure listings are clear, accurate, and aligned with buyer expectations, but we also understand how this can feel frustrating if it wasn’t fully clear or aligned with your expectations.

Regarding reserve prices, these are generally used for lots with a higher expected value, typically from around €200 and above. Our experts may advise against setting a reserve price that is considered too high, as this can negatively impact the success of the auction. In such cases, the expert will inform the seller, and if the seller does not wish to proceed without a reserve price, they always have the option to withdraw the lot before the auction starts.

After reviewing your case, we can confirm that it has already been assessed by both our Customer Service team and the expert involved. We apologise for any frustration caused and are pleased to confirm that the matter has been reviewed and resolved. Our team will be in touch with you by email shortly with further information.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. Your feedback helps us continue improving the service we provide to our sellers.

Kind regards,
The Catawiki team
