Honestly I try to tell people to use Indigo instead of Amazon but I am not going to do that anymore.

i sent my girlfriend a $100 gift card on valentines day and either it was never received or she deleted it, I contacted support and they said she never got it and they would resend the email of the gift card to her. She has yet to receive the resent email. I have contacted support twice now, an agent leaving me on read for nearly an hour as they 'fixed' the issue with no real actual assistance and no gift card received.

Unwanted Attention

My worst shopping experience ever at the Manulife Centre location! My dog and I got unwanted attention from the staff. My dog is well-behaved and I was walking around quietly, looking for a gift for my friend. Why did your staff all of a sudden calling on me from my back asking if I need help. I was startled and felt disturbed. Indigo, you should train your staff better to respect potential paying customers to create a pleasant experience, but the potential is now gone!

Absolutely useless and dysfunctional store and customer service

Absolutely useless and dysfunctional retail outlet. Little surprise it’s doing so badly financially. There is zero attempt to improve or to change things. They don’t fulfil orders on time, my items have been sitting in the warehouse “awaiting shipment” for two days now. My delivery estimate date was also a lie. Customer service has zero idea how to help or even any means to get in touch with the warehouse or escalate the issue. I have been provided no solutions and will most likely have to file a dispute to get my money back. Meanwhile other outlets are offering literally same day delivery. Indigos’ troubles aren’t because people have stopped reading books; they are because of their own doing and incompetence. If you want your items in time and preserve your sanity, do not order from here.

Indigo was very quick to fix the problem I had with a damaged book they shipped me. They didn't have the stock to replace my item and refunded me without a hassle. I understand most people only leave a review here when they are upset about their experience, but I think it's undeserving. Over the years I have yet to have a bad experience with Indigo.

Worst online experience, ever.

Without a doubt, the worst online experience I’ve ever had. Ruined Christmas. Was promised it would be delivered 2days before Christmas, item was finally delivered January 3rd. Every customer service representative lied about my item, even told there was a “natural disaster” that delay shipment. 12 days late, and deplorable customer service who don’t care. Absolute dumpster fire of a company. 0/10 Will NEVER spend a dime on this company.

Indigo Online & Kobo

My complaint is about Indigo online, not the store. Every time I try to order something the website gives me crap. It complains about the phone number format but doesn't tell you what it wants; then after fiddling around with it you can get it to finally work. If I try to order an ebook, it says I have to do so from the Kobo website which worked last week, this week it doesn't work. Keeps saying I have to update my payment information. It's a valid credit card. I removed it and entered it again. Still says the same thing. I finally said the hell with it and downloaded the books I wanted from Amazon Kindle. I tried to Buy Canadian but Indigo & Kobo's websites scream, "Please go to Amazon, you just wasted an hour of your life you'll never get back!" Gift cards are a pain in the ass too. You can't do anything here without asking for help from customer support.

misleading delivery times

What absolute rubbish 'customer service'. When I placed the order for 2 items I was informed that both were expected to arrive well before the 25th. I paid extra for 'express shipping' for one item in the hope of ensuring it would arrive before Christmas. Chapters Indigo chose to send it via UPS and, of course, UPS has no idea when it will arrive (It picked it up on the 15th and it was supposed to arrive on the 19th). The other item was supposed to arrive on the 17th but now Cda Post states that it won't arrive before the 30th. I had hoped that Chapters Indigo would be honest about delivery dates but evidently that was too much to expect. I'd wanted to support a Cdn company but this is the last time I order from this one.

Unacceptable

I purchased an egift card online to be emailed to the recipient. I received an email saying it has been delivered but it hasn't. The same thing happened in the spring. I had to contact Indigo several times in the spring to get the issue resolved. Now, I'm waiting again to hear from Customer Service since the gift card has not been sent. This is unacceptable. I will NEVER buy a gift card from Indigo again.

Unbelievable

I went to buy an Elf on the Shelf and while I was there, I bought a gift certificate. I asked for a pocket to put my gift certificate in. The lady at the cash said that they don’t have any and I have to BUY A PACKAGE OF 3 if I wanted something to put my gift certificate in. What a disgusting ploy by this store. Are you kidding me. They purposely didn’t send the stores pockets for gift certificates so the public would have to buy them. Then she told me I could buy a bag for $1.00. I will NEVER go back to this company. Take your 3 package boxes for gift certificates and your $1.00 bag and shove it.

Canadian customer

Canadian customer. Ordered 4 books assuming they had stock in Canada, ordering page did not indicate they would come across the border.
4 days later I have one book. 2 are held up who knpw where in the states. I stuck in processing. Won't let me cancel it obviously the cancel button is only for immediate mistakes made.
Who knows how long these will take to show up , ill return them as they are time sensitive gifts.
If I wanted to support Trump.and pay tariffs on books ill make that decision myself , apparently thats not how this company operates and they need to improve their clarity with online orders. Also I was expecting the items in a few days , I should be able to cancel after that when there's no order ready instead its a buy at your own risk , oh sorry we cant cancel it because you clicked on the purchase button.
Bit dramatic but hey its very deceptive marketing and customer service.
Next year ill buy gift cards make my life less stressful.

Don't use PayPal, they'll blame you if they don;t take the payment.

I ordered some books and used PayPal to make the payment, as this was listed as an option. But I should have remembered when I renewed my Plum Plus account using PayPal and the order failed, because they don't like using PayPal.
Anyway, I received one of the books, and whilst waiting for the other two to arrive received an URGENT email saying that the PayPal had failed and I needed to pay them immediately. I contacted PayPal and Chapters/Indigo and asked why the payment had failed, there was funds available so no issue there. PayPal told me that Indigo hadn't accepted the payment, so they were waiting for them to accept it and then the funds would transfer.
Indigo told me that it was nothing to do with them and I must pay up, I think they were worried because the other books were out for delivery and they hadn't got the money. They said I had to pay but I said that I wouldn't pay anything for as long as the Authorized Payment was sitting on PayPal and wasn't cancelled.
Throughout the whole thing they were treating me like I had tried to prevent the payment or was trying to get stuff without paying. Never once did they apologise or recognize that it was their error, not mine. When the Plum Plus comes up for renewal I shall definitely not be renewing.

They told me this on July 18th 7:59 pm, I went in Sunday 20th early morning and they had it cancelled. I do not understand how they are still in business. Tried to buy canadian but I guess they do not take care of their customers. Have to order it by Amazon now.

Reviewing SquareOne branch

Paperbacks and softcovers are often damaged (especially the corners); Moreover, the nonstop, instore music is often played too loud for comfortable perusal!!

BEWARE of stolen gift card data!

BEWARE: Gift cards credentials can be stolen and you may never get your money back!

I was gifted a gift card to this store and saved it for later use. When I finally tried to redeem it, I was shocked to find the balance had already been used, at a location I’ve never even been to. The physical card was in my home the entire time, and I never shared the PIN or card details with anyone.

I reached out to customer service expecting help, but they were completely unhelpful and showed no interest in investigating what was clearly a case of fraud. No support, no resolution, and no accountability.

This was an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience. If you’re considering buying or using a gift card here, think twice. You may end up losing your money with no recourse.

From what I see in the other reviews, this is not the first time when it is happening.

Oh man, this service is crap

Oh man, I give up on Chapters/Indigo. Completely useless. Just the facts.

Order one book 2 weeks ago.
Was given an approximate date for delivery 2 weeks
No notice from Chapters Indigo and the online chat is useless
I ordered the book from Amazon.ca and got it next day
Which service would you ever use?
