Avoid at All Costs

Avoid at All Costs – Faulty Bikes, Broken Lock, Rude and Dishonest Management
I had a truly awful experience at this bike rental shop on Saturday, 7th June, and I strongly urge others to stay away.
I reserved a bike the day before and was promised it would be ready for me along with a complimentary lock. When I arrived, there was no bike prepared, no lock set aside, and I was made to buy a lock instead. The staff took the lock out of its packaging before handing it to me — something that would become important later.
The first bike I was given had a faulty chain and became unusable shortly into my ride. I had to walk it back. The second replacement bike also turned out to be faulty — the seat wouldn’t stay up, making it equally unrideable. This completely ruined my plans for the day.
When I returned to the shop to request a refund for both the unusable bikes (£25) and the lock (£15), the manager (possibly the owner) flat-out refused to return a single penny. He said the lock couldn’t be returned because I didn’t have the packaging — even though their own staff had removed it. I also suspect the lock was broken to begin with.
He then refused to give me his name or the name of the business owner, and when I suggested checking CCTV footage to verify my claims, he conveniently stated the CCTV was not working either.
To make matters worse, he raised his voice, accused me of shouting, and created a hostile, intimidating environment. I was in shock at his behaviour and found the encounter extremely upsetting.
As a result, I’ve contacted my bank to dispute the transaction and I will also be filing a complaint with Trading Standards.
This shop’s practices are highly questionable. After reading other reviews, it’s clear I’m not alone — several others have described similar experiences and even called the place a scam.
They claim to offer reliable bikes, good service, and honest business — but based on my experience, what they say and what they do are worlds apart.
⚠️ Consider this your warning: avoid this place unless you want to be overcharged, blamed, and shouted at for their own faulty equipment.
I wouldn't recommend this shop to anyone — not even for a quick ride around the block.
