Purchased a chicken guard pro kit solar after it was recommended by a friend. First unit wouldn’t power on. Second unit sometimes opens and closes on the sensor, sometimes doesn’t. When the door does open it doesn’t open fully despite numerous attempts to recalibrate. Chickenguard have always been quick to respond but refuse to replace a unit which is clearly not fit for purpose. Their response is that the unit won’t open in winter in Scotland as it’s too dark for the sensor to activate. And for issues with door calibration I need to have a chicken coop with a front at least 80cm high. I would NOT recommend this company under any circumstances.

Chicken Guard has excellent service and quality products. Our last Chicken door did not work properly and stopped working after two months. After that bad experience, we tried the Chicken Guard product. It has been very dependable. After a couple of years we had an issue and reached out to Chicken Guard service. They always respond quickly (within a day). I get to talk to a human and they solve the issue quickly. I am very pleased.

Bought the extreme unit some time ago, only fitted it 2 weeks ago and the motor has broken, it was professionally installed and was functioning as it should! After providing customer services with photos, videos and proof of purchase and a few hours jumping through hoops for them they offered me 20% off a new one when we had paid nearly £200 for the one that lasted 2 weeks! Not helpful and a waste of money! I will be trying the cheap Chinese ones now! I am looking for 5 units if anyone has a recommendation or a quality brand!

I ordered one of the Chickenguard doors and had a problem with the solar panel. This was immediately rectified with a replacement. Excellent service, would highly recommend.

Maribel replied to my request via email pretty much instantly. She identified my needs, kept me updated and dispatched the parts straight away. I have 4 all in one coops doors and wouldn't buy any other brand. The customer service is excellent and and a British quality product. Mike Buckley.

I asked technical question regarding solar voltage level and how it performs and I received very detailed answer.
Following is the response from Technical Support:

Thanks for your query.
Under usual conditions, when the batteries are being charge by the Solar Panel, the battery voltage will be anywhere from 4.8volts to 5.5volts. The Solar Panel will also read around 3 volts.
The Solar Panel/charging circuitry is designed to maximise the available power from the sun. When doing this, the circuitry pulls the available solar voltage down to 3v or there abouts to maximise the amount of available power. In other words, this is a normal solar voltage reading.

I had one of the older units which worked brilliantly for over five years. I upgraded to a newer model, but after only a few months it stopped working.

The build quality is poor, with weak parts and soldering, and the customer service has been unhelpful and frustrating to deal with throughout.

A real shame after such a good experience with the old unit. I cannot recommend the newer ones, there are much better options on the market now.

What a fantastic company and support team when so many others out there couldn't care less. The ChickenGuard door raiser and close kit is a great benefit for anyone thinking of keeping a few chickens. There are a number to choose from to fit your needs. All automated, so no longer heading out in a dressing gown to let out the chickens in early morning in summer and no need to go out in the cold of a winter evening to close the door when the hens are in. The Sensor setting allows the door to close depending on the amount of daylight it measures. If you have dozy hens, like me, who tend to want to remain outside after dusk you can lengthen the time the door remains open up to an hour after the sensor would close it.

Excellent product!
Makes looking after my pet chickens much easier. Setting the opening and closing time helps me keep them safe. Easy to set up and needed to change the battery only once in 5 years I’ve been using it. Highly recommend!

5*! would give 6 if I could. Love their products and customer service is second to none. I ordered a solar upgrade for my door opener which upon arrival did not work, so contacted them and they sent a whole new unit. Very impressed!

I have owned a Chicken guard system for years. I have my unit powered by a dedicated DC power supply as opposed to using batteries. The unit has worked flawlessly for years, and is a must have for folks that have chickens since the door to the coop is opened and closed automatically. Technical support has been fantastic and questions are answered promptly by knowledgeable staff.

I purchased a chicken guard door opener in oct. 2024. I had one for 5 years before and it worked great the entire time. It just wore out. This new one just never worked right, but I kept putting new battery’s in and Messing with it. In Aug. 2025 it just broke. It would not work at all. After some e-mails back-and-forth and a bunch of pictures. They sent me a new motor for my door. It was here very quickly and has been working great.

Unable to find the parts I needed, the lady on the phone was extremely helpful and located them for me . Ordered and they actually arrived ahead of time.

I purchased an item over a year ago and after having g issues I contacted their customer support who helped me get the item working again. Thank you so much

I spoke to Chicken guard with a few queries that I had before the committed to buying. Extremely helpful knowing the product well and together we found the right product. Super easy to install and works very well. The whole family went out to watch it close on the first night of having it! Better than the television. Great product and very simple to use.

Works really well especially with a bigger door for a turkey.

I bought a new coop and opted to have a ChickenGuard Pro pre-installed. Once the coop was erected, I had a problems with the door sticking and calibration. The retailer referred me to ChickenGuard customer support. Tracey was fantastic - patient, good-humoured and very clear with her guidance. Between us, we resolved the issues. It now works brilliantly and I was very impressed that she checked in a week later to ensure all was well.
