A bit of background First off, to make things clear, chilli crisp is not a crisp! Rather, it is a chilli condiment with an oil base, hence it’s also known as chilli oil. Chilli crisp originated from China, spread throughout East Asia and is a now fast gaining popularity all over the world. When James & Natalie McCarthy opened their Red Panda Asian street-food shops in Exeter and Lyme Regis in 2017, they created an in-house chilli crisp sauce for their menu. Customers welcomed their healthy and tasty food offering, but most of all they loved the chilli crisp and clamoured to buy it. A few local delis and farm shops also asked to stock jars of Red Panda Chilli Crisp. From this grassroots beginning, Red Panda is now ready to launch its Chilli Crisp to a wider market. Red Panda’s chilli crisp starts with an authentic base of four varieties of chillies sourced directly from mountain farms in southern China, slow-roasted and cooked with aromatics to infuse the oil. A unique blend of green and red Sichuan peppercorns delivers a distinct fragrant, zingy and numbing-heat punch. Fermented beans and fried onions give it a delightful crunch. The result is a chunky and crunchy sauce with a complex flavour profile that has been described as “little taste explosions” on your palate. It’s not as spicy as it looks, making it even more inclusive to use in recipes and dishes. Chilli Crisp can be used as a dip, a sauce or topping. It works with poached egg or omelette, cheese toasties, jacket potato, fried rice, noodles, dumplings, salads, pizza, just about everything can be made better with a bit of chilli crisp. I discovered chillicrisp on Instagram through a recipe shared by Alfiecooks and felt compelled to give it a try! The only drawback was the delivery time, but the package arrived securely wrapped. I tried it that same night and absolutely loved it! I’ll need to calm down, I've nearly finished a jar in less than a week!

Great product but website needs work

It only keeps for 30 days and I'll never eat it all in that time sadly. I checked the website for recipe ideas and it's really sparse in terms of content. I'd love more ideas of how I might use it. Particularly for vegetarian recipes. The brand, product and delivery is great but I would have benefited from more inspiration on how to use it.

Hi Cat, thanks for your review...on the points you raise; although it says 30 days, we find at home the product will keep for months (if not a year) especially if you keep it in the fridge. Being oil-based there is little that will get contaminated, just use a clean spoon when getting some out. On the website, yes we need to get on with this!! OK, some nice veg ideas; obvious ones are adding into a stir fry (veg or rice) at the end of cooking as a drizzle...on eggs it is brilliant, mix a spoon with mayo and then use that with potato salad or the like, cheese toastie take your fancy? Basically anything that needs a bit of salt and flavour will benefit...but you are right, we need to get these on the website - thanks for the nudge!!

The chilli is not too overpowering. It’s just the right amount.
The crispy black beans are umami heaven.
All round a delicious crispy chilli oil would definitely buy again.

Fantastic products and first class customer service
I have ordered Red panda Chilli crisp a couple of times now and absolutely love it. On my most recent order there was an issue with how my package arrived, fault of the courier not Red panda, however on contacting customer service I received top notch service and attention. Very impressed with how the query was dealt with.
