A great tool. Often times the side band connections are finicky, (and I have very short cut hair!) but works great otherwise. Wish headphones weren't needed for deep sleep boosts. Its another inconven... See more

Some time ago, I owned the Muse S Gen 2, which worked well for about a year and a half before it completely stopped functioning. When I contacted support to replace the headband (even at my own expense, since it was out of warranty), I was told they no longer manufacture it — essentially meaning the device had become useless. Instead, I was encouraged to purchase their newer product, the Muse Athena, which was presented as a major improvement.
Unfortunately, Muse Athena has had issues from day one. The side sensors either fail to connect or connect very inconsistently, and even when they do, the signal frequently drops during sessions.
I reported this in January 2026. Since then, I’ve exchanged over 10 emails with support, sent videos and photos, and followed all their instructions. Five months later, nothing has been resolved.
What’s most frustrating is the support experience:
- Every reply comes from a different person
- I keep receiving the same generic suggestions (mostly to “moisten the sensors”)
- I’m repeatedly told that if it doesn’t work, the device will be replaced — but this never actually happens
- Responses are very slow - my last email has now gone unanswered for 12 days.
After 5 months of going in circles, I still have a non-functional device.
This has been a waste of money and a very frustrating experience. I cannot recommend Muse products based on both product reliability and customer support.

I've been using muse since 2019. My longest uninterrupted streak to date is 1510 days meditation each morning.
Hard at first to get a consistent headband connection. Was very frustraticn

Headband is comfortable and app is quite easy to install.
If the battery could last 4-6 hours, that would be great.
In my opinion, the app is a bit of a mess on structure. It would be better to have a version with "few options" and possibly expand it, or even allow you to remove and add items altogether. Scrolling through the entire list to your favorite program is outdated.
As I mentioned earlier, using the band itself is super convenient, but the software was recently modified and one of the most important options for me – sending data to a selected IP address – was removed without notice.
In the world of AI and open source, this is a very weak move.
Now I can no longer be an active party creating my own programs and games based on my own private EEG and PPG signals, and the programs available in the app may be pretty, and sometimes even almost cool, but they're not enough for me.
Now I can't play alone – a real shame and, in my opinion, a very negative and non-transparent move on the manufacturer's part, just like the app itself – outdated. If you prefer to produce all the software yourself and pay for it instead of providing people with the tools, you'll never sell enough wristbands to reach a wide audience. This is a move against the future trend, timid and conservative, and completely unnecessary, as it's one of the few options on the market that's affordable and offers top-quality comfort, even if the EEG signal quality is only at the minimum necessary for accurate readings.

I just finished the longer survey. The reason I give 4 stars here is that I would like more features for self-designing experiences; more flexibility and at least a little more info without a subscriptions. Though everything seems subscription today, and I can sort of understand that with ongoing tech development, but I am not yet ready to capitulate.

I feel relaxed after meditation and I am testing what works for me to get into deep meditatioN…
The reason for the 2* is because I received no tracking details, when I got home I found the box was quick dented, but I said so long as the headband is ok that’s cool, I paid for the band and subscription premium subscription. Downloaded the app but my subscription wasn’t there. I messaged muse and told them she said delete the app and start again that didn’t work. And I just thought about the tacky way it came to me also the lack of a return label and the box being all dented the flimsy headband the no case and I thought I paid £348 for that. Run me my money please and thank you extremely disappointed in how it all turned out I had high hopes for this headband not worth the money, I have reached out to your customer service twice about this issues and received an email stating that you’re very busy and it will take longer than the usual 3-5 business days all I want is the RMA so I can send you back your headband and get my money back. The headband was delivered yesterday 27/04/2026 I’ve spoken to my card issuers and explained the situation if I don’t hear anything I’ll file a claim against you because it has a 14 day return and it’s like you’re stalling I don’t want this headband I want to send it back and my money returned so this back and forth will serve as proof that I’ve been trying to return them one day after receiving them and getting no help to return as well as the fact I have to pay for the return all I want is the return label so I can send you your item back please and thank you

Customer service not very responsive, having great trouble getting the latest muse to connect, find it very difficult to get all the sensors connected. It’s a very frustrating experience which is a shame as i imagine its a good product if you can get it too work

This is my third Muse device — I’ve owned both the first and second generations before getting the Muse S Athena.
Overall, it’s a really interesting piece of tech. What I like most is the real-time feedback — you can actually “hear” when your mind calms down, which makes meditation and focus training much more engaging. Sleep tracking is also quite detailed and useful.
That said, it’s not perfect. It’s expensive, and a lot of the value is locked behind a subscription. It also takes a bit of trial and error to get a good fit and stable signal.
Final thoughts: great device if you’re genuinely into meditation, focus, and biofeedback.

Hello I'm so happy to report I'm enjoying seeing my brain in action. I hope we'll see enough of us to support the earth and each other.

I like the device and bio feedback. I enjoy the meditations. The deep sleep boost tends to wake me up so not sure about that. The battery barely lasts an 8 hour night. And the app sometimes goes all black when i save. I have to restart it. Other than that it works fine.

Valuable to use muse Athena S to collect data of my meditation sessions. I can review different meditation practices and could see different brainwaves and oxygenation patterns characteristics; however, connection is an issue, it is too sensitive and would pause even though I have not touch the band during a meditation session. It start out ok and then paused for connection check despite I have not moved my head or touched the band. Definitely cannot be used to monitor sleep since how could I possibly to keep my head still for good contacts. I tried only a few sleep monitoring and stopped using it. I would strongly suggest to allow export of the brainwaves and oxygenation charts in higher resolution quality, so I can submit the charts for AI for advise. Your enso’s advice is primitive and boring. Does not account for the brainwave patterns and associations with oxygenation- failed to suggest what may have happened in my practice. You may not fully release your data through sdk for pc especially for the Athena s, at least, allow a higher resolution of the charts be exportable for AI to read clearly.

I really enjoy the device, but I have found that I have to be sitting perfectly still for the headband to retain connection enough to obtain the readings. This means that even wearing the headband while I'm sitting at my desk, working on a laptop is sometimes too much motion for it to continue functioning and it certainly cannot function through even part of a night lying down to sleep. Which is unfortunate because I was really looking forward to the sleeping function as well as the new wake up function. But honestly, the connection is so persnickety as far as remaining in contact enough with the temples and especially the area above the ears in order to continue with the readings that it makes most activity with the device impossible unless you are sitting perfectly still and upright.
I believe this is excellent and has contributed to enhancing my breathing techniques and meditation practices. The AI feedback is valuable; my sole recommendation is to focus on synchronizing the electrodes during sleep and maintaining the Musen, as movement during sleep often results in loss of synchronization and consequently, inaccurate data.

Previously, I made several attempts to start meditating, but it never became a consistent part of my lifestyle. Muse helps gamify the process, which not only makes it fun but also provides real scientific data about your brain activity. Seeing how your brain works is fascinating and creates a sense of transparency and progress. As a result, my meditation practice has improved, and my overall well-being has increased.
