Having sold my car half way through a policy I needed to change the vehicle insured. They wanted £200 extra to insure my new car despite it being in a significantly lower insurance group. Cancelling was difficult and resulted in me being forced to pay a full month’s car insurance (for a month I no longer had the vehicle) with threats of non payment affecting my credit score. Taking advantage of people who need to change policies is needless and greedy.

I got my renewal notice from Churchill on the 23rd April advising my car insurance was due to run out on the 18th May and asking if I wanted to renew with them. I found I could insure at Direct Line, their partner cheaper so I said NO to the renewal, I filled in the rest of the renewal form telling them it was because of price and that I had got insured elsewhere. So it was quite clear I was not renewing with them.
On the 18th May I got an Email thanking me for renewing my insurance and found they had taken £429.98 from my bank account. I rang up and complained, they have now refunded the money but only £428. 81. So I am now out of pocket with a long phone call and not the correct refund. I have always flitted between Direct Line and Churchill believing its better to pay a bit more and get good service, I am not so sure now. I also see here others have had auto renew woes too. Its time they stopped it. I thankyou for your reply Kirsty but I do not have a Facebook account so cannot contact you in that way but you have my email address should you wish to use that.

I have purchased insurance from Churchill. I did not want it renewed automatically but the system changed my choice every time I made it, and saved my credit card details. Now, I will absolutely make sure that my motor vehicle insurance is not automatically renewed next year and I shall insist that my credit card details are deleted from Churchill records. The price was fair and the system was easy to use but it would not let me choose not to auto-renew. This has made me question your integrity and I will think very long and hard before renewing with Churchill

Kept waiting for more than half hour on the phone when reporting a stolen vehicle. This is unacceptable if I was buying insurance I would not be kept waiting. Prioritising getting new business over loyal existing customers! I won’t renew with Churchill again.
