Complaint from a Persistent Spammer

After writing a negative review about them on 6th Feb, they have caused Trustpilot to contact me for more information, specifically my name, e-mail address, reference number and telephone number.

They already have my e-mail address as they send me spam e-mails despite being asked to stop. They already have my name from my e-mail address. There is no reference number in their e-mail. The do not have, and are not going to get, my phone number.

Prior to this contact, they were previously told not to contact me several times, including 24.10.22, 30.8.21, 8.4.21 and 30.3.21, and several times before that.

I remain of the opinion that they are at worst a scam and at best extraordinarily unprofessional and not worth anyone's time.

The text of their most recent e-mail with my company's name and product redacted:

"Hi XXX,

I hope this email finds you well.

I'm Kinley from ciorevieweurope.com, a prominent magazine reaching over 132000 qualified print and digital subscribers across UK and Europe. We cover what matters most to enterprise technology leaders from scalability and integration to automation and AI-driven transformation. Our editorial mission is to highlight the organizations shaping the future of digital innovation and enterprise transformation.

I’m pleased to inform you that XXX has been shortlisted to be featured as the ‘XXX XXX Management Solution of the Year in UK 2026'. This selection reflects nominations from our readership and a detailed review by our editorial board and industry specialists, who noted your solutions as the best in innovation and reliability.

Notably, you will be the sole organization featured as 'XXX XXX Management Solution of the Year in UK 2026' in this issue.

As part of this, we want to feature XXX in a detailed 2-page profile exploring your technological objectives, innovations, and the impact your solutions have on clients. We aim to craft an insightful story that helps readers understand your leadership and focus on advancing the tech ecosystem.

Your article will appear alongside insights from senior decision-makers, including CIOs, CTOs, IT Directors, and Chief Digital Officers, who discuss experiences, advice, and perspectives on key industry issues. These articles have consistently helped solutions providers in previous editions, enhancing their visibility and increasing revenue.

Similarly, XXX can expand its presence and utilize the recognition's reprints in its outreach initiatives to attract more prospects, as they will be more inclined to work with the recipient of the 'XXX XXX Management Solution of the Year in UK 2026' title.

To support organizations in sharing these stories beyond the magazine, our team provides full reprint rights, a recognition logo, and other benefits for a nominal amount.

XXX, I'd be glad to arrange a brief discussion between you and our senior manager, who is more knowledgeable, to walk you through this and share how others have effectively utilized it. Let me know a convenient time to connect.

Regards,
Kinley

Advertisment Agency in Disguise

If I was really one of the most influential consultants in Management Consulting, and there was a publication that focused on true journalism and wanted to cover what I brought to the profession, they would interview me and not charge me.

Unfortunately, some people may not know how this 'publication' operates and may be intrigued and influenced by a cover story...not knowing the person paid to be included. In my opinion, that is deceitful!

Report on Suspected Fraudulent Email Activities from laamcioreview.com

This report outlines the findings of an investigation into the domain laamcioreview.com, following reports of suspicious email communications purportedly from this domain. The primary focus is on emails sent by an individual claiming to be Alma Berg, associated with "CIOReview Latin America," targeting recipients with offers of recognition in a "Top 10 MarTech Solutions Providers in Latin America 2024" list.

Email Overview

The emails in question attempt to engage recipients by informing them that their company, referred to as Mints cloud, has been shortlisted for inclusion in a MarTech edition by CIOReview Latin America. The sender offers promotional opportunities in exchange for a fee, including a featured company profile, certificate, recognition logo, and advertising space, with the promise of enhanced visibility and client attraction.

Key Points of Concern

Solicitation for Payment: The sender requests a payment of 2,000 USD for services that include reprint rights, advertising space, and promotional logos. This practice is unusual for legitimate industry recognitions, which typically do not charge companies for inclusion in such lists.

Lack of Verification: There is a lack of clarity on how the evaluation process for the "Top 10 MarTech Solutions Providers" is conducted, raising questions about the legitimacy of the selection criteria and the authenticity of the recognition.

Absence of Detailed Contact Information: While the emails include a name and a phone number, there is minimal information about the physical location of CIOReview Latin America. Legitimate organizations typically provide comprehensive contact details.

Request for Confidential Information: The emails imply that further engagement would require sharing confidential information under the guise of creating a company profile, posing potential risks to data privacy.

Generic Messaging: The emails use a template-like format that could be easily modified to target various companies, suggesting a lack of personalized engagement typical of legitimate business recognitions.

Conclusion

Based on the investigation, there are several red flags associated with the emails from alma.berg at laamcioreview.com that suggest they may be part of a fraudulent scheme to solicit money from businesses under false pretenses. The lack of verifiable information about the award process, the request for payment for recognition, and the absence of detailed organizational information are all indicative of a potential scam.

Email from them

Email from them, and I quote "We are delighted to inform you that our evaluation panel has shortlisted Hippo IT Management to feature as one of the '10 Most Promising Dell Solutions Providers 2023' in our upcoming 4th annual edition on Dell."

Odd as we don't deal with Dell, and if we did, Dell should be worried if we are in their top 10. Politely told them to go away and try and fleece another company for $3000 for a worthless article.

Fake paid-for journalism / content farm

This company is falsely advertising itself as an independent review, it charges companies to feature them on its website.

I would recommend people actively avoid any company featured on their website, any company willing to purchase their services is scammy at best.

Advertising disguised as journalism

Advertising disguised as journalism. We were "awarded" recognition for top 20 _________ and that's not even something we do. No, we won't pay you $3000 for the opportunity to be in your "magazine".
