This is the worst card.

This is the worst card.

I requested a credit limit increase on my Best Buy Credit Card issued by Citi, believing it would be a soft pull, which is common with many major card issuers. There was no clear or explicit disclosure that clicking the request would result in a hard credit inquiry.

Shortly after, a hard inquiry appeared on my Equifax credit report. When I contacted Citi customer service, I was told it was “out of their hands” and that I should contact the credit bureau — even though the inquiry was triggered by Citi’s own system.

A hard inquiry is not a small issue. It has real consequences, especially for customers who carefully manage their credit. This is something I would have absolutely avoided if Citi or Best Buy had been transparent about the impact of requesting a credit limit increase.

The lack of disclosure, combined with customer service refusing responsibility, shows extremely poor customer care and transparency. Best Buy puts its brand on this card, yet customers are left dealing with the consequences of Citi’s unclear practices.

I strongly warn others: do not request a credit limit increase on the Best Buy Credit Card unless you are clearly told, in writing, whether it will result in a hard or soft credit pull.

This experience has completely destroyed my trust in both Citi and the Best Buy credit card program.

My Best Buy Credit Card limit

Applied for the My Best Buy Credit Card mainly to finance a camera purchase (~$3,500) with 24-month promotional financing. I got approved, but the credit limit came back at only $2,000 — which makes the card basically unusable for the purchase I applied for.

I also requested a credit limit increase and was declined, even though my credit score is around **760** and I have other cards with limits up to **$15K**. What’s frustrating is that even if they had approved a $4K limit, putting a $3.5K purchase on a brand-new card would spike utilization close to 90%+, which could temporarily hurt my score anyway.

Overall, the starting limit feels unreasonably low for a card that’s marketed for financing big Best Buy purchases. It turns the main reason for applying into a dead end.

UNBELIEVABLY WORTHLESS CARD AND SERVICES

UNBELIEVABLY BAD CARD SERVICES! The agent just told me a lie...she said with every purchase the card will CALL me with a verification # then you have to enter the verification # before a purchase can be made online. LIE! my sister says her City Bank card doesn't do that. I was making a purchase with the card on a site and City Bank called me with a verification # but when I entered the correct code the site I was purchasing on kicked me out saying the card was invalid! (Tried it 3 times with dif verification #'s) So I called City Bank...I decided to test City Bank call in system and told it I had lost the card, it asked for my phone # as a verification (the same # it had a few minutes ago called me on.) So I entered it and the system told me it wasn't valid!! THE SAME # IT HAD JUST CALLED ME ON!! (on my account only the landline # is listed as I've had the card for over 20yrs and it never asked me to updated it.). So I kept pushing 0 and after two calls it finally connected me to a live agent...she tried but she was no help! WORTHLESS CARD, NO ACCESS TO IT IN AN EMERGENCY AND NO WAY TO PURCHASE on a website!!! The card will never get used again...WORTHLESS!

fraud/billing

I made purchases from Home Depo on 9-20-22. I recieved a bill and credit card in an incorrect name, unknown to me. I reported this and asked for a corrected bill. I recieved bill in my name with same account number as previously billed. I reported this and was sent a bill with different account number, but a late fee and interest was being charged. I disputed the late fees and interest. I was told charges would be waved. As to date, 12-2-22, I have not recieved a corrected bill. I have made numerous calls to City Bank, as they do billing for Home Depo. They promise to fix the issue but have not. In addition, someone has used my social security number in an attempt to open up a credit card. City Bank has not resolved this problem as well. I am asking for your help so I can pay my bill, (correct bill) and get rid of Home Depo and City Bank. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, Kathy McNulty
