Visited with the intention of buying a quality pair of sandals for my birthday. All seemed fine to begin with, although the shop was ridiculously overstaffed & pricing misleading (assistant agreed). Tried the sandals on feeling somewhat intimidated by all the staff watching but as they initially seemed comfortable, paid full price. Once home, I assumed (naively) that as the sandals were Clarks they would be comfortable enough to wear outdoors - wrong!! Within a few minutes of wear, my ankles & hips were in pain. I am 52 years old, have bought many shoes & have never had such a bad experience. Contacted Customer Service online to express my concerns, explained that I had worn the sandals for a couple of short walks but they weren’t comfortable. Advisor replied, apologised, stating I could return them for a full refund. This reply filled me with hope that Clarks cared about their customers (in hindsight naive). I therefore returned to the store within 48 hours, travelling around 20 miles. Again the store had more staff than customers (a Saturday - again)!! The assistant would not agree to a return as the sandals showed signs of being worn outside. I showed him the reply from customer services to which he stated that the online customer service is
very poor, giving incorrect advice which as a fellow Clarks employee, raises alarm bells! I am now the owner of footwear that I cannot wear at all & am very unhappy and humiliated by the whole experience.
Obviously there are some training issues with both call centre & shop staff which need to be addressed i.e the online advisor could have clarified whether the sandals were worn outside (although it seemed obvious) to save the pointless return trip. The other point I’d like to make is that Clarks need to seriously up their game in the current economic climate. I ended up having to buy cheap sandals from a high street budget store and have to say the overall experience there was very positive. Shame on you Clarks .

I regularly visit Clark’s for my daughters shoes, especially during their sales and they have always been super helpful!

Today I went in for myself wanting some shoes that fit my wide fit, due to nowhere having comfortable shoes for me to wear all day! I was served by Megan in the Truro store and she was super helpful with my request and returned with many options for me to try on and answered any questions! I hate asking for help but Megan was super helpful and approachable, I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome so thank you!
