Review – Cobalt Elite Kodachrome Pack

As a portrait photographer who cares deeply about color rendering, I have to say this is an absolutely outstanding profile pack.

I’ve been searching for a convincing Kodachrome interpretation for digital files for a long time, and this is without any doubt the best Kodachrome simulation I have seen so far.

What makes it exceptional is how perfectly it captures the spirit of Kodachrome without feeling exaggerated or overly nostalgic. The colors have depth and richness, while skin tones remain natural and believable — something many film simulations struggle with.

As someone who photographs people a lot, I especially appreciate how beautifully the profiles render skin tones. They stay natural, elegant and consistent even in difficult lighting conditions.

Color separation is beautiful, especially in blues and reds, and the tonality feels refined and balanced. The images often look nearly finished straight out of the profile, without the need for heavy grading.

This is truly top-tier work. For photographers who admire the classic Kodachrome aesthetic but want a refined and reliable tool for modern digital workflows, this pack sets a new benchmark.

Really excellent profiles for wedding photo edits. I spent a few years trying to find a camera profile or preset that I was happy with and the Cobalt-image profiles are exactly what I was looking for to give me consistently great skin tones and punchy vibrant colours while still looking very natural.

Like having a new camera. Canon RP colors just never seemed quite right in lightroom without putting a lot of time into every file, was more than I'm used to with previous Canon bodies and Lightroom. Cobalt + the Canon Vintage set opened up a completely new world, gets everything so much closer to where I want it from the start and I swear opens up so much more dynamic range than I could pull out of Lightroom originally with this camera.

Cobalt Image has a unique approach to working with raw image files. A scientific and logical approach makes tuning images in subtle ways even if you are not trying to match traditional film looks.
Although the website makes it easy to see sample results, as well as video examples. It is still difficult to follow how the packages are structured. It doesn't help that there are discontinued packages still listed.
Once you figure out what you are purchasing the software is a dream to work with.

The prices are reasonable for the quality of the profiles. The profiles have helped tremendously in my photo editing.

Easy and quick purchase

I needed Fujifilm Film Simulations in C1 for my new Canon EOS R6 Mark II to match the pictures with my Fujifilm cameras. Cobalt Images did an excellent job at that and I am perfectly happy with the results. Thanks for this excellent service!

I love those profiles. It makes my photos pop with that "je ne sais quoi".

I enjoyed it, I just hope there was a simpler way to receive updates for capture one version. Can they possibly send me the updates to my email whenever they released for capture one?

I would rate Cobalt Presets four stars, but only give three and a half stars to Elite Cobalt Presets. The Elite Portra preset doesn't quite capture the same aesthetic as medium format shots. If you take a look at various YouTubers' videos featuring Portra 400 and Portra 800 film, you'll notice the distinct medium format look. Unfortunately, Elite Portra 800 falls a bit short of my expectations. Nonetheless, I genuinely appreciate the meticulous effort put into these presets, and I'm highly satisfied with the Fuji digital camera presets. Hopefully, Elite Portra 400 and Portra 800 can be elevated to the level of Fuji digital presets in the future.

Brilliant service and product, highly recommended.

Great presets, super versatile.

The best presets/styles I’ve used so far. Others feel like filters over an image. Cobalt feels like they’re embedded into the file. I own several packs and look forward to seeing the growth of a stellar product.

I hate to say but I didn’t see a significant worth out of the purchase.
