Fantastic Convention

Venue was very well laid out. Staff were super friendly and super helpful. I've been to many conventions and I can't fault this one, in fact I would say this is one of the best experiences I've had. Would thoroughly recommend it and can see me going back next year depending on the guests. Line up of guests was really good as well.

Pass

Pass. Hayden Christensen was a disaster (nearly a 5 hour wait) and enough to put me off returning to any Monopoly event in the future. I really thought they’d know how to A) have better customer service in these situations B) handle these delays better (I know they occur! We’ve done comic cons all around the world) but it was a shambles. The owner blamed Hayden arriving late and having hourly 5 minute cigarette breaks. That doesn’t add up to 5 hours. He didn’t like that I was unhappy and called him out on the numbers of people they were churning through. Not even a Panel Q&A! You had to pay basically £200 upwards to get maybe 18 seconds of interaction if you were lucky. ‘For the fans, by the fans’ my arse. If so there would have been a panel for all to enjoy. Don’t get me started on if you wanted the character name as well as an Autograph it was another £100 😂 that’s normally assumed in the autograph price!

As I say from 9.30am till about 2.15pm we were in this ridiculous queue. The fact the next auto session should have started at 10.40 you’re kind of assuming you’ll be done by then- maybe by 11. But no- missed other Q&As and could not plan for anything as a result.

Everything seemed ridiculous. I felt like a number when being dealt with and the whole experience of meeting Hayden was soured. I’m just grateful I’d already met him at Star Wars Celebration. I recommend that.

Had an excellent weekend at the Con

Had an excellent weekend at the Con. Loved the bigger venue and separate space for chilling and eating; though even more tables and chairs could have been used on the Saturday. The layout was good with all the guests at one side of the hall but more distinct lines for autographs and especially photographs would have been helpful. There were no signs to say where and when photograph queues were starting as they were not always strictly to timetable and the girls were virtually impossible to hear when they were announcing. So, some sort of board to keep us informed would have been helpful. The panel area was much bigger and better with very comfortable seating but, at times, was still too small to accommodate everyone and the screening off walls just hampered everyone else's view if they couldn't get in for a seat. Where were the big screens live streaming them like in previous years? Were the TV screens on the stage supposed to be for that? Trading area was much better this year but lacked a great deal of variety; too many mystery bags. There were no artists, comic books, etc like in previous years. The variety of sets for getting pictures in was excellent this year and was added to by having people in costume specific to the backdrops. I also liked the area for teaching role playing games and the drawing area for kids which was a nice addition this year. My bugbear of the whole weekend was the fiasco that was lunch on the Saturday. I believe the event organisers would have no control over this but if they have any influence on this for future Cons, it can only be a good thing. The queueing was long, slow and totally disorganised. There were no signs to say that only certain areas sold certain foods, food ran out quickly and there was hardly any choices for exorbitant prices. I pitied the poor servers. Why wasn't the restaurant upstairs open? That all aside, I have bought my ticket for next year and look forward to meeting more exciting guests and discovering what else can be brought to this growing attraction.

Absolutely fantastic!

First time for us as a family, and as a whole we loved it. It was a great experience, we're absolutely shattered now after 2 days of comic con... and we will be back next year. (Just wish it wasn't beginning of March... summer would be much better up here in the North lol)

However - P&J need to have a stern talking to regarding their food. The prices for below average food and portions are outrageous! Took a packed lunch for Sunday after Saturday's letdown.

I did feel the vendors were all very samey.. a little more variety would be great next year! And the props could do with a little sprucing up... some felt like they were just dumped to fill the space - which is a shame because they were all great!

I don't know who decides on prices for the photos and autographs but they seemed rather steep - maybe something to consider for future events?! I didn't spend any money on them this year sadly, but will see who is going to be booked for next year! (Supernatural cast incl Jensen and Misha, pretty please??)

Panels were fabulous, but I agree that extra seating would be fab, and moving the wrestling to the opposite side of the arena would be beneficial, too, I believe. Having the panels broadcast in the conference hall on TVs and speakers would be really handy I think.

The arcades and games were top however!! Absolutely fantastic - hope they're going to be back in 2025. A few extra bits for our next generation of geeks would be great I think... something for the kids, lol.

Overall we had a great experience... and we can't wait to be back next year! Well done everyone involved and thanks for bringing such a great event to Aberdeen!

Poorly organised and run

Poorly organised and run. Hard to find people of the event to ask questions, the traders were all very similar not enough variety with no authors or actual comic book artists. The food was overpriced and poor quality and the prices for autographs were way overpriced. The afterparty was an absolute joke paid to enter a place I could have gone to for free just to drink in a different section of the bar. There was no dancing the atmosphere was dead with none of the officials that organised the event present at the after party

Comic con scotland aberdeen

Great space and venue.
Maybe a separate room for photos and a screen/louder for panels.
A call put for pictures and times to remind us.
I spent alot of time figuring out my lines!
Overall fab though.

Great condition with one tweak needed

Great con first time in Aberdeen with a group of 7 but all agree compared to Manchester the Q&A area was lacking as only a small portion of people could see the panels out whole group were unable to see any of them.

Another great year

Another great year, was amazing. Only thing is the q&a section didn’t get to see who we wanted as not enough seats would even be better if tv screens outside of it that you could watch it or even better have q&a’s in the hall you used last year that way more space and people would get to see who they wanted. Other than that fun time had by all.

We had a fantastic time

We had a fantastic time! It was our first Comic com and it was really enjoyable. We had amazing interactions with the artists for autographs/photos and enjoyed all the prop photo points. There's always room for improvement which isn't a bad thing,
I would say maybe utilise the second hall for more food vendors if the venue allows it.
Space out the stalls a bit more, as when it was busy the corridors between them became near impossible to navigate.
Make the panels easier to access, so that if seats are full you can still stand at the side/watch on screens maybe so that no one misses out.
Have the wrestling area away from the panel section as the noise was distracting.
We got tickets on tickets for troops and were never sent actual emails/tickets so there was confusion on the door about letting us in. Luckily a member of monopoly was nearby to help but it was a bit of a stressful way to start which could have been avoided :)

We cannot wait for more of these in the future and p&j is an ideal location to get too and had lots more space to utilise in the future as this event grows.

Comic con convert!

My first time to a comic con and you have a convert! Brilliant atmosphere and everyone was so friendly. Will definitely be back next year. Queueing for photos was a bit of a shambles but not the girls fault.....a better system is called for.

Comiccon Aberdeen delight!!

The weekend is busy, lots to see, props, stalls and Q&As. My kids loved seeing the celebs as did dad!! Mum wasn't too impressed as she said it wasn't her thing, which is fair!! Bring in Keifer Sutherland and she'd be there!! It's great bringing this to Aberdeen and people travelling to be part of it. I love the work everyone puts in to making their cosplay costumes, so many wonderful costumes!!
Only thing that I didn't like was the photo queues were all over the place for the bigger stars...and the entrance to q&a bottlenecked quickly!!
But overall great time had, definitely wanna do it again!!

Badly organised con, reseller galore & god awful afterparty

Con was meh. Wish they focused more on small artists instead of having 90% of their stalls AliExpress resellers or funko pop resellers. Gave me the impression monopoly only cared about the money and ensured I spent nothing.

Cosplay judges only really cared about props and didn't seem that interested in what I had to say & what I had made. left a very bad taste in my mouth, making me not want to compete at a monopoly con again.

Panels were too short, feels shorter than last year, around 10 minutes and some only had like 3 fan questions. Seating was better, tiered approach with easy views no matter where you sat however with only two entry/exit points it was a crush getting out of the panel area with people trying to push in to get seats or crowding around the entrances making it claustrophobic to get out.

Guests were 30-45 minutes late arriving leaving people queuing for an extended length of time. Waited 45 minutes for Khary to arrive (from the start time of 0930 for autographs) and then another 10 minutes.
Karen didn't look impressed with how everything was handled but she clearly loved interacting with fans.

Afterparty wasn't great. Rather dissapointed in the venue not feeling like they cared or put in the effort. Clearly the same cocktails they have just reskinned with somewhat comiccon names. And nothing new other than god awful tasting butter beer and when I asked what was in it no one could tell me.

Overall it was a badly handled con, only improvement on 2023 was venue size, definitely have alot of lessons to learn and I hope they don't go down the same route as other con organisations who just care about money and profit and not the fans who built them up.

Event organisers missed a beat

What made this event was really more the people I interacted with and met, rather than the event itself and it's organisers. The map itself was actually inaccurate and confusing in places to start off with. A lot of good guests cancelled, although that's not the fault of the organisers it still ended up disappointing.

One of the most disappointing facts of this convention was the absolute lack of independent creators at the trader stalls. A good 80% of the stalls were selling figures, models, collectables and vintage toys. While that's good, a lot of the stalls had the same or similar items. Everything unique and created by independent artists were limited to a single alley (of around six tables) and two or three sporadically placed artists between the other tables. Felt like a massive decrease from last year. Seemed that all of the artists chosen were also selling similar things (badges, pins, and art based on memes and internet trends.) On top of that there was a significant lack of traders selling in fandom themed art, which is what comic con is supposed to be about as a nerd convention. That's why I can only give the event three stars. Feels like there were some massive wastes of spaces that could've been used to vastly increase the choice and inclusion.
