Hi, I’m Tracey, the founder of THATCH, a family run business that is nestled in the foothills of Boulsworth Hill in Trawden. My intense love of English cottages and period homes is what lead me to buying my cottage here in Trawden. I quite simply have a passion for the gardens and interiors that epitomise this style of home. I would never have dreamt that one day, I would be supplying home accessories to help furnish them and whilst working full time, this would not have been possible. However, children came along and everything changed - With the need to continue working, it seemed the perfect opportunity of being able to balance family life whilst further fuelling my passion and so in 2017, THATCH was formed.
What’s behind the name?
Every business name should have it’s own story too and so here is THATCH’s; “Cottage” naturally stems from my love of them, but also there is a connection to the old cottage industry in that THATCH is run from home and part of what it supplies are products that have been handmade within the homes of cottages, such as; The Litlington White and Salcombe Blue Bottle Vases, my cushions, lampshades and lavender hearts. Of course, there are products that have been made by hand that come from further afield – though these they tend to call as; “Made by Artisans” these days and I am proud to say that they are all Fair Trade members too! The word “Attic” is with the association that attics tend to hold hidden treasures that all hold their own stories and laughter filled memories; treasures that are waiting to be discovered and once again adorn the homes of their finder!
What’s behind the products?
So, if everything else has a story, then perhaps the products should too and they do; from the reclaimed items that bear the marks of their former life to the hand-weld marks and tiny hammer marks of the new products made by the Artisans all make up their own story. Of course, my fondness of cottages is where I draw my inspiration from as to the products that I select, some of which have a rustic or a vintage influence. Of course, I am mindful that not everyone lives in a period house or a cottage, nor chooses to, which is why there is something for everyone in the selection of homewares that I lovingly source from the UK, Denmark and further afield, that will be quite at home regardless of your property or décor style – a product is afterall what you make it.
A message from me
I could not have done this, nor continue to do this without the help of my husband and of my customers whom I shall remain eternally thankful to. I hope you continue with me on my journey into the business world and that you’ll enjoy browsing the products just as much as I have enjoyed selecting them. Thank you for having read my story behind THATCH.
My story is personal and heartfelt.
Much Love
Tracey xxx
