Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 412 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the subscription model, finding that payments were taken unexpectedly or that free trials converted into paid subscriptions without clear notification. Customers frequently reported issues with payments, including being charged incorrectly or for services they did not intend to use. The customer service was a major point of frustration, with many describing it as unhelpful, unresponsive, and difficult to reach a real person. Reviewers also struggled to obtain refunds, often being denied even when they felt the charges were unwarranted or the service unused. Additionally, the website itself was criticized for being misleading about subscriptions and for having broken links or inaccessible content.

Sketchy Business Practices, Horrible Customer Service.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. They "tricked" me into a $400+ subscription auto-renewal (I thought I cancelled and I'm still not entirely convinced that I didn't). When I attempted to get a refund, I had multiple customer service reps respond by dropping a link to their refund policy and terminating the chat while I was typing my response. Sketchy business practices and horrible customer service. AVOID.

I enrolled in the Google Cybersecurity…

At the beginning of the Google Cybersecurity Certificate, it was stated that learners would receive a 30% discount for the CompTIA Security+ certification upon completion.

When I tried to obtain or confirm this discount, I contacted support and was told that my case would be escalated and that I should wait. Several weeks passed without any follow-up or resolution, even after I reached out again. Eventually, the promotion expired without any clear explanation.

Both the course content and the Google Cibersecurity certification are valuable, but the handling of this promotion and the lack of communication from support were disappointing and could be improved.

Coursera’s pricing and subscription model is extremely misleading.

Coursera’s pricing isn’t just confusing, it’s intentionally vague. The problem isn’t “fine print.” The problem is that there isn’t any meaningful fine print. You are expected to pay first and then contact support afterward to find out what you actually bought.

I completed a Course/Certificate during a 7-day free trial. Only after finishing did I learn that I had to pay a subscription fee just to download certificates I had already earned. That requirement was not clearly stated anywhere during signup or checkout. Not prominently. Not clearly. Not at all. I thought I was getting a month of their plus service so I could try that out...nope. Just that specific brand's/companies stuff...

Even worse, Coursera Plus supposedly covers these same certificates, but the difference between a company-only subscription and Coursera Plus is buried behind non-descriptive marketing language. You don’t find out what you’re really paying for until after the charge hits your account and you start asking questions.

Support’s response was basically: “Yes, it’s confusing, but policy says too bad.” No acknowledgment of misleading UX. No transparency. Just corporate shrugging.

This isn’t education. It’s a billing maze dressed up as learning. If you use Coursera, assume nothing is what it sounds like, document everything, and expect to need customer support just to understand the product you’re buying.

Unauthorised charges - scam

Total scam website. Signed up for a free trial after being forced to provide my credit card details, and did not authorise the ongoing monthly charges. There is no ability to contact anybody from the company. Standard AI response to my email that do not address my query. There a no payment transaction in my payment history and there is no way I can remove my credit card details that don't seem to be stored anywhere visible to me. I have to cancel my credit card and get a new one. If you don't mind being charged by a company who are impossible to contact, then go right ahead and use this company. I certainly don't recommend them

Charged me £37 despite cancelling 1 day after signing up for the free trial when I realised I should use a different email address.

Extremely difficult to request a refund, then put through chat bots, then eventually the human responder was unhelpful, curt and closed my case without actually helping. Avoid! There are much better platforms out there. Pretty sure their system is designed to trap

I liked the combination of lectures and quizzes in the courses. I thought it helped compared to just passively watching videos. I think their UI/UX could use an update, however, and it was hard to reach customer service when I needed to.

Annual Subscription Cancellation after Auto-Renewal

Got an annual subscription while I was out of work. My subscription auto renewed without my knowledge and I didn’t realize it until I looked at my monthly CC bill and saw a $400 charge. Went to cancel and it was outside of the 14 day refund window. I talk to customer service and explain to them that I hadn’t used Coursera in months and have no plans to use it this year, they say too bad, that’s not our policy. I say ok well then charge me for a month then even though I didn’t use it and cancel the annual renewal, also a negative. Worst customer service and company I’ve ever purchased from. They are a bunch of scammers, never again.

I understand that Coursera is under enormous pressure to raise revenues, but attempting to force me to renew my subscription is not the proper way to do it. There was no place for me to put off renewing my subscription. Their AI customer service app is garbage and led me nowhere. Thankfully the credit card they had on file had expired so I couldn’t renew.

Absolutely fraudulent company

I signed up for a course over a year ago and this fraudulent company took it upon themselves to sign me up for a YEARLY PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP for $422. They charged the yearly membership fee (that I never requested nor consented to) for 2026 on 12/30. There seems to be no way to get an actual person on the phone to problem solve - because this is a scam company and they are not interested in helping customers. You aren’t their customers, you are just their targets. DO NOT EVEN ENGAGE WITH THEIR WEBSITE.

Deceiving cancelation policies

I do not find the courses special than what you find on other articles online courses online. But what truly disappointed me is that when I wanted to cancel my subscription, they made it confusing with different banners and discounts that I never recived a confiemation after I pressed on a button saying that I confirm I want to cancel my subscription. Practically they are deceptive when it comes to cancelling subscriptions. I would never get back to it. I get better offers on udemy and those are one time pay. And the subscription on Coursera is not the cheapest either. I also got on contact with their customer service, at first an AI. I had to specifically request a human. Then I instead had a bunch of email exchanged repeating myself explaining that yhe cancellation did not go through just for them to tell me I had to also press on this or that. Nome of those steps are written anywhere. Meanwhile the customer service points to me I could have done this or that. No, their website is deceptive and on purpose, just to make you believe you canceled.

Double charged for Specialisation course and Coursera Plus and no REFUND.

I signed up for a Certificate couse (£37) and then right afterwards I subscribed for the Coursera Plus (£37) and signed up for the same course since it is part of that membership. On the 25/12, I was double charged £37 - one charge for the specialisation and one for the Cousera Plus. After going through their useless chatbot and finally getting to a human, I was told I was not entitled to a refund because I did not cancel the specialisation before the trial period ended. However, I susbcribed to Cousera Plus precisely not have to pay for the bloody specialisation. When I told the other "human", that sounded exactly like a bot with those silly ready-made polite sentences, I was not happy and wanted to escalate the case to her superior, she/he/it simply replied "Thank you for your patience" and sent me back to Cora, their silly AI. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from such a company. They do not care for their customers, ONLY THE MONEY. I'm looking for an alternative educational plataform which truly value their customers. Mercenaries!

Trying to claim a refund

I paid a one off payment for a course and to my surprise I was signed up to a monthly payment which I canceled after my account had been deducted the 2nd fee. I asked for the payment to be refunded but I was told I had signed up to a recurring payment after the initial payment something I was unaware of and although I challenged it, Coursera just quoted their refund policies. Do not use this company as the content was over 10 years old and very cursory.

Cancelled a monthly subscription after 1 day

Cancelled a monthly subscription 1 day after trial.
However, as you have to click on each course you want to follow you have to cancel 2 times (monthly + seperate course).
1 cancellation should suffice. Not with Coursera.
EUR 68 gratis received, thanks and see you never again.
