Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the user experience, citing frequent UI changes and difficulty in toggling features. Customers also expressed strong negative opinions regarding the subscription models and pricing, noting unexpected price increases, removed features, and concerns about the company's business practices. The product itself was often described as unreliable, expensive, and prone to introducing errors, with some feeling it negatively impacted their work. Some people were dissatisfied with the artificial intelligence, finding its outputs inaccurate, repetitive, and sometimes even causing unintended data changes. Conversely, a small portion of people felt the product was incredible and had transformed their workflow, especially for code exploration and for those with limited scripting knowledge.

Cursor changes my digital life

Cursor changes my digital life! Not sure why there are so many negative reviews on all AI companies, but just had to write a positive. I'm paying for a year subscription and let me tell you, Cursor has transformed my workflow enormously. Because of it, I could make the switch from Windows to Linux on my PC. Control it with my Mac. Set up an ComfyUI and render computer. Whatever I need that involves coding, the Terminal or sometimes just give me directions on how to fix things. Sort up my computer? Script. Done. Make folders convert video files to your specific options? Scripted. Done. For a person who just know a little scripting ideas and HTML coding, I have now become like a scripting God with AI agents and endless LLM's to use from. Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT... It never fails on me. 5 STARS!

Complete Frauds

Complete Frauds
They fake their models to squeeze you of your usage then when you get rinsed you are subjected to their useless auto mode. I have used gemini separately to cursor and at times it's ok on cursor but at others it has the reasoning of an amazon chatbot, meanwhile you are still being charged their premium for the expensive model.

Thought I'd give cursor as go but this is just worse.

Thought I'd give cursor as go, similar to VS Code and supposedly better AI integration and more.

But just a poor experience overall. The UI and menu's kept changing every time I closed and reopened the editor. The file explorer moved from the left to the right and the text editor got hidden and agent mode became default. Had to go through and reset all the UI and layout again numerous times when the "chat" interface or agent interface became the new default again. Why are there two different places (one in the editor and one only on the webapp profile) that must BOTH be set to privacy mode to prevent your data being used for training and retention?

I found that with the $20 subscription

I found that with the $20 subscription, you can only work for about 2 days on a larger project. The usage display is a bit confusing, so it would be helpful if it were clearer. I cancelled my subscription, but I’m still being billed.

Dishonest Billing Practices - Unauthorized Charges After Cancellation

I subscribed to the Cursor Pro plan for $20/month. Shortly after, I cancelled my subscription.

Despite this, Cursor charged an additional $60+ to my card on December 9th and 10th, 2025.

THE REASON: Their system automatically enables "On-Demand Usage" by default (labeled as "Recommended") WITHOUT the user's explicit consent. No spending alerts or confirmations are provided before these overage charges are applied.

Customer support has repeatedly refused a refund, even with clear proof that I had cancelled and never enabled this pay-per-use feature.

WARNING: If you use Cursor, immediately check your account settings and disable "On-Demand Usage" to avoid unexpected and unauthorized charges.

I am now forced to file a chargeback with my bank to recover my money.

Student

If you’re a student, do NOT count on ever getting the student discount. Just pay full price or use a different editor, because this verification system is broken, Cursor doesn’t care, and their “support” agent is a chatbot that can only say sorry. Cursor is fully aware of the problem but continues to do absolutely nothing and hides behind “ talk to SheerID.”

SheerID has ignored my case for weeks, repeatedly demanded sensitive documents, and responded with canned, useless copy-paste messages that don’t actually address anything. It's been over a MONTH now. The “Verification Limit Exceeded” error seemingly never gets resolved.

In the end SheerID never ended up verifying me, kept all my personal data (I had to separately contact their "privacy" email to demand deletion, which I STILL have not heard back from), and Cursor lost a paying customer. The whole process feels like a scammy data collection scheme and is extremely disrespectful to students who just want to use the product.

Cursor forces students into a broken third-party system that abuses user information, then refuses to take responsibility when it fails. It feels more like data collection than verification.

1/5 stars – seemingly decent product, shameful customer experience.

I had a deeply frustrating experience…

I had a deeply frustrating experience with this company. Someone stole my debit card details, created an account on their platform (which is NOT mine), and used my card to pay for their service. I contacted them immediately, explained the situation, and provided all the necessary information — yet they still refused to issue a refund for an obviously fraudulent charge.

Their response felt dismissive and unhelpful. Instead of addressing the fraud properly, they simply told me they were “unable” to refund the payment, which is completely unacceptable. I don’t even have an account with them, and they still kept the money.

This is not how a trustworthy or responsible service handles fraud. Extremely disappointing.

I would give it a minus score

I would give it a minus 100 score if I could. In order to trial with the full version you need to skip the 7 day free trial and pay for it. Then after struggling with it for 2 days, I asked for my money back but that isn't happening. They said I racked up usage costs to the tune of $7 and I only used it for 5 hours. I gave it a prompt numerous times - to move 2 text blocks closer together on a sales letter, and it couldn't do it. I asked Claude with the same prompt and it did it immediately. DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO FIX THE CODE YOURSELF.

They stole my money and their product is garbage

Why do you keep randomly billing $10 three times in the same month?
Transitionary invoice? What the hell is that?

Cursor usage? I'm paying for a monthly plan why am I being charged Usage? I paid $10 for on-demand usage ONLY ONCE, i instantly realized it's a scam as I burned through all of it in a few minutes and never paid for it anymore, but somehow it activated a auto-renewal I never approved. That's totally a scam, how the hell is an ON-DEMAND usage being switched to AUTOMATIC USAGE and it somehow charges me for the on-demand usage before even using the credits from my monthly plan?

I'm done with this garbage product, it's only getting worse. I spend more time asking it to fix the things it broke by itself and repeating the same requests over and over again than doing any actual useful work. Trying your overpriced Pro+ was my final attempt at trying to see if this product is worth it, but it still produces garbage output and burns tokens so fast that literally ONLY FOUR DAYS after subscribing to what you call a "monthly" plan I'm at 94% of my usage limit and the last 10% was just me repeating the same requests over and over again.

I just canceled my "monthly" subscription and I'll contact my credit card company for a chargeback, as I have never authorized those payments.

Warning to Small Users: Unfair Billing Model Hidden Behind "On-Demand" Fees

I am writing this review to warn other individual and small-scale users about Cursor's billing structure. While the core product may be satisfactory, the payment model is predatory and financially unsustainable for anyone on a budget.

I was on the $20/month Pro subscription. After exceeding the included allowance, I was forced into paying for "on-demand usage."

The critical issue is this: Paying for "on-demand usage" DOES NOT extend your subscription limits or provide predictable access.

Rapid Consumption: I paid an additional $20 for "on-demand usage" and had that entire allowance consumed in less than 24 hours. This effectively means the product costs $20 a day, not $20 a month, for active users.

Unfair Structure: According to support, these payments only cover past deficits and do not increase future limits. This traps the user in a cycle where they must constantly pay extra for usage that depletes almost instantly.

Bait and Switch: The standard subscription price is a bait. The actual cost to use the product effectively is far higher, pushing small users into extremely expensive, unpredictable usage fees that quickly exceed their budget.

If you are a corporate user with an unlimited budget, this might be manageable. If you are an individual user trying to manage costs, I strongly advise looking for an alternative provider. This model is designed to squeeze continuous, unexpected payments out of the user base.

Conclusion: I have formally terminated my service due to this unacceptable, costly, and financially punitive structure.

One star is far too generous

Cursor isn’t just disappointing — it’s destructive. Every time I try to use it, it ends up breaking the software I create. Instead of helping productivity, it introduces errors and instability that I then have to spend hours fixing.
I paid for a year upfront, and now I’m stuck with a tool that causes more harm than good. The way this app was sold felt misleading, and the reality is nowhere near the promises.
Key issues:
• Code generated or modified by Cursor consistently breaks projects.
• Far from saving time, it creates extra work and frustration.
• Support offers no real solutions or accountability.
Fool me once, but never again. Cursor is not just underwhelming — it’s a liability. Save yourself the headache and avoid it entirely.
