Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 62 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it unhelpful, difficult to reach a real person, and often leading to unresolved issues. Customers frequently reported problems with their orders, such as receiving incorrect or damaged items, and experiencing significant delays or complete failures in delivery. The online purchasing experience was often described as woeful, with issues like items being out of stock after an order was placed, or products arriving in poor condition. Though some customers were satisfied with individual staff members, praising their courtesy, professionalism, and helpfulness, a minority of people were dissatisfied with the staff, citing instances of rudeness, unhelpfulness, and inappropriate conduct. Falsely advertised product for black saturday

Dear David Jones Customer Service,

I am writing to express my frustration and disappointment regarding the misleading advertisement of the 240cm Callaway Dew Drop Tipped Christmas Tree, which was actively promoted during your Black Saturday sale. The product was advertised as available for click and collect, yet it was only available in Canberra, while I am located in Melbourne.

Upon contacting three different stores, I was informed that the tree was not available in Victoria, despite being displayed and promoted in-store. The Doncaster store was particularly unhelpful and rude, and the Malvern store insisted that I travel an hour and a half from Greensborough to purchase the display tree, only to return another day to collect it after dismantling. They refused to accept payment over the phone, making the process unnecessarily difficult. The staff at Highpoint attempted to assist but encountered similar obstacles, and even they found the situation absurd.

This experience has been incredibly frustrating and time-consuming. I have been on hold with your helpline for over 2,000 minutes, despite being advised of a 3-minute wait time. This is unacceptable and reflects poorly on your customer service.

I am requesting that the tree be delivered to me as per your website's policy, which states that click and collect orders over $100 qualify for free delivery. I believe this is a reasonable resolution given the circumstances and the inconvenience I have faced.

So disappointed

So disappointed, ordered no 125001106.
Ordered Hugo Boss Bottled Triumph Elixir 100ml online, it claimed to come with a bonus gift of HuGo Boss Bag. I received only the perfume and no bag, On calling customer service, they couldn’t find any promo for the bonus bag Offer on website and didn’t want to honour it. So disappointed and frustrated.

Bondi store

Bondi store - Sylvie from section selling Dyson hair-dryers repeatedly refused to allow a refund on a defective Supersonic bought only a week after purchase. Sent me to Dyson service centre instead. She promised to phone me to know the outcome of the service centre experience. No attempt to call me! Liars in customer service DISGUST me. I'm a 4th generation DJs customer who no longer wants to shop with them.

A comedy of errors

Today's shopping experience at David Jones Bondi Junction was a reminder of why I prefer to shop online and why Australian department stores are failing. The task was simple. I knew the product I wanted. The DJs website said it was in stock in this store so I drove there. What should have been a 10-minute exercise turned into 30 minutes. The product wasn't merchandised on the shop floor. Two salespeople tried to help me but they worked for other brands and they didn't know how to use the store point of sale computer to look up stock. Despite the website saying stock was available in this store and a number of others, the salesperson said without any hesitation that all stock was on the floor and the item was not in stock and I should go to the city store (even though the website said it was not in stock there). I spoke to a manager, and gave them the specific product code from the website. Turns out there is a storage area. The manager went away with a printout of the stock code and returned after some time with the wrong item. I showed him a picture of the item so he could go by sight instead of using a stock code. Eventually, I got the product I came for and then it took another 10 minutes to process the sale as one staff member was tending to the small queue while the other staff folded clothes ignoring the waiting customers.

Very low standards of customer service

Very low standards of customer service. Most of the time it is difficult to find an assistance on the floor. Either sales assistants are invisible, or they are busily chatting between themselves ignoring customers, pretending that they do not see you. Often, It is difficult to find any assistance even at the register, so you have to wait just standing there waiting to pay for an item, until someone notices you...Unfortunately this is the problem not only at one particular store, but across many DJ stores in Sydney.. I have been a loyal customer of DJ for over 20 years, but I don't think I will keep my loyalty for much longer. DJ is just going worse by day (I don't mean DJ's products offerings - products are good -, I mean their customer service and the type/ calibre of people they employ as sales assistants). Very poor for such as 'iconic' brand :(

They know there is a problem but do…

They know there is a problem but do nothing about it after waiting nearly 2 hours and speaking to 3 people, I was told by all of them that they know the App that I was told to download when I received my card, is not working for most of the DJ transition card holders. You are unable to put in a new PIN on the App. Are they doing anything about that? are they emailing you to tell you that there is a problem, NO. Are they automatically posting you a PIN, NO. They wait until YOU call them and after waiting 2 hours on hold, they inform you they can now only send you a PIN in the mail. It will be between 5-10 Business Days. So it will take app 3 weeks to have a functioning card. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. They know it's a problem, it's up to them to do something about it. Waiting 3 weeks in this day and age for your CC is appalling. Cost of living crisis and this is how it's being handled. As much as I like DJ's reward system, It's not worth the trouble. If this is how they handle the transition and after reading the reviews below. DJ's, you have made a huge mistake going with Latitude and you will loose customers. If I can't get a good reward buying from you with the card, I may as well go elsewhere.

David Jones City store Marcs ladies…

David Jones City store Marcs ladies section. Congratulations on worst customer service ever.
1. Store assistant (that JD is a stretch) was texting, I asked if I could get some help on a Marcs return. The look she gave me was one of inconvenience to her.
2. She walked off after all was done without a word.
I was thinking of purchasing another Marcs clothing in place but after the attitude I received, no thanks. I'll spend my money with nicer professional service personnel.
Incredible. I've been shopping there 30+ years, never received such horrid service from a cranky store assistant.

Useless online search function

This is a review of the website, it has quite possibly the worst search function I’ve had the misfortune of using. I was looking for a hairbrush, apparently DJs doesn’t sell them because ‘hairbrush’ search gave me nothing. I did find hairbrushes in a ‘hair products’ search but really didn’t want to trawl through a whole range of other stuff I didn’t want. I then tried ‘brush’ which gave a vast selection of items including clothing made of ‘brushed cotton’.
I’m old enough to remember when DJs was the quality store where you could find anything, it’s kinda sad to see what it has become.

Yesterday I shopped around and finally…

Yesterday I shopped around and finally I found two tops that fit me, and I went to the counter to pay. I said to the staff who was serving me at the time just a second, I think I left my glasses in the fitting room, I'll quickly grab them and cone, when I get back from the few seconds she left the counter, and no one knows where my stuff is and where that staff was. David Jones' cashiers are really stressed out. I was very upset and sad because they treat customers like this. I had to shop again to find something. Since I got a David Jones gift card for my birthday, I have to buy from there otherwise I would have gone somewhere else. Honestly, I can't deal with stress people like that very mean so I asked everyone in my family not to give me any stuff from David Jones..

Excellent customer service and swift…

Excellent customer service and swift online purchasing/ordering & delivery.

Placed an order for a King Sealy Mattress. They kept us in tow with updates.

Customer Service 10/10 - professional and prompt to sms's inquiries. Obliging with rescheduling delivery, they went above and beyond to move the delivery to a later date.

It was our first time shop for a bulk item, and from this experience, will not have any hesitations in the future for any other bulk items required.

Thanks DJ for the prompt, professional, assisting and hassle free customer service provided.

Highly recommended!

David Jones has lost its reputation and…

David Jones has lost its reputation and integrity. What was once my favourite store is now subservient to other big departments.
Burwood store is under renovations and is challenged of stock. What was the straw that broke the camels back is no children’s shoes or socks are being sold. One person on the children’s counter so need to frolick other counters to get served. The most experienced , long-standing staff have been either dispersed to other stores or terminated.
As the staff is reduced and dispersed to all counters, no one knows the stock because they come from other departments.
The underwear section was depleted of standard sizes. Eg: basic black stockings has multitudes of size mediums but the most common being tall was non existent.
Children’s basic Spencer’s have one or two sizes I’ve been several times and only have the same sizes. Can’t get older children sizes
I dislike shopping there as it’s lost all appeal and stock and staff that were there for many years have gone.
Stand alone store staff are picking up the slack where David Jones have dispensed of good long term staff.
Children’s shoes and basics like socks and underwear should be your bread and butter despite the condensation of your floors

Midas at David Jones Chatswood

Past 3-4 years I’m buying my sport-everyday shoes from Midas brand in David Jones Chatswood. I adore lady, her name is Hurry (hope spelling is right). Such a caring personality, she love the brand she's presenting, always trying to find some solutions for you, trying to find whatever you liked from other stores. Brand and David Jones can be more than proud to have such a representer. Thank you Hurry

2nd time i've ordered from David Jones…

2nd time i've ordered from David Jones in a couple of months and there has been an issue with the order. First time they sent the completely wrong product, the second order the boots came scuffed up, used and scratched. I suspect this is because David Jones ship out floor stock.

Really disappointing - Won't be shopping with them again

Disappointing experience at DJ- Wittner

I recently had a disappointing experience at the Wittner, David Jones store in Bondi Junction regarding a return. Upon attempting to return a pair of brand new sandals purchased from the Elizabeth Street DJ just two days prior, I was met with resistance from a staff member named Niaf (afternoon shift, young girl, no name tag, not sure of the spelling), due to the fact that she notice discolouration on the bottom of one of the heels. The other heel was spotless and it was obvious that the heels had not be worn. The one with the slight damage was the one that was obviously used for customers to try on. Despite the sandal showing slight signs of damage, which neither I nor the original salesperson noticed at the time of purchase, Niaf insisted that I return them to the original store in the city. This insistence, despite it being the same shop and department, was both inconvenient and unreasonable, especially given that I had proof of purchase. This encounter left me feeling frustrated and disappointed with the level of service provided. Very poor service.

DO NOT SHOP AT DAVID JONES

If there was a half star rating I would struggle to feel this was a low enough score for the VERY VERY POOR level of customer service from David Jones. This company is very dodgy. I had my credit card details stolen through the David Jones platform and someone has made purchases online. When I reported this to them, they did absolutely nothing at all. The "customer service" from the David Jones head office were completely useless and rude. Be very careful shopping with the David Jones company online through their platform as they obviously keep customer details from purchases well after you have made them. The David Jones system is obviously flawed and they have a security issue. David Jones I will never purchase anything from you again, and I will be ensuring that EVERYONE I know hears about this terrible experience that I have had because of you. DO NOT SHOP AT DAVID JONES.

I was at Macquarie Shopping Centre

I was at Macquarie Shopping Centre, Waterloo Rd &, Herring Rd, North Ryde NSW 2113, today, as I had to browse for a luggage piece as my Delsey luggage bought earlier had a broken clasp which could not be fixed.
I was attended to by Sadaf at the customer service, I have to say she is a good will ambassador for DJ.
Sadaf's communication skills, patience, tenacity, adaptability and resourcefulness are exemplary.
Well done and thank you Sadaf. All the best.
