Charged elderly mother £1000 for bad denture

Summary:

Kathryn Russell was the dentist.

The practice charges £300 to "refund" an ill-fitting, painful denture even though it's been returned to them.

The owner Saagar Patel won't believe your complaint unless you do it in a way he approves of e.g. in front of the camera in the reception area, where other patients can hear you.

The dentures were so massive they couldn't fit in one box, the teeth were tiny, the gum was huge, they hurt so badly she couldn't eat, the top and bottom teeth didn't line up, and the person looked like they had no teeth while wearing them.

Longer version:

It went well until the denture was delivered. It made it look like my relative had no teeth and caused two deep wrinkles. I mentioned this to the dentist Kathryn Russell who said the denture shouldn't be changed because it would decrease the suction. I believed her until I confirmed online that the dentures caused "denture face", so they were too small. My relative suggested that the dentures could be bigger, but the dentist brushed this off with an "I know" and that was that.

We got a second opinion. The denture specialist confirmed the dentures were not done properly and could have been changed by the dentist.

After getting a second opinion, I complained via email. The owner Saagar Patel claims camera footage in the reception area didn't show us complaining, and unsurprisingly the dentist Kathryn Russell didn't agree with us, so he doesn't believe us. We complained in the treatment room, but apparently the dentist didn't formally note our complaints so Saagar doesn't believe us. We didn't complain on cctv. Of course not. Why would we discuss private treatment in the public reception area where other patients and staff are around?

I was busy supporting a domestic abuse victim at the time, so I misunderstood the extremely long email mentioning the refund because it focused on blaming us for the denture. I thought Saagar meant £700 now and £300 later. We had to pay for the dentures in many instalments, so I thought the refund would also be in instalments.

We returned the dentures and also their containers. The dentist Kathryn Russell never bothered to come out to see us even though we returned the dentures on the day and time it was convenient for her.

I emailed to find out when the remaining £300 would be refunded. Saagar refused and considers the matter closed because they got the dentures and containers back. He has charged an elderly woman £300 for appointments and lab work for a denture that caused excruciating pain (she couldn't eat), made her look toothless, had small teeth, a massive gum size, the top and bottom teeth didn't line up, and he took the denture and containers back. Three hundred pounds and three months wasted.

I can't imagine how many bad dentures Dentistry100 has made. Those poor patients have no idea what they paid for, and might be suffering in silence because they spent so much money.

Best dentist in London

I have been going to Dentistry 100 for many years and I can confidently say their service has been exceptional throughout. I have gone from being terrified to actually (dare I say it) being relaxed about it. I am so grateful to Andrew, Hayley & the team for being such epic professional’s.

Above and beyond

I wouldn’t trust my unruly teeth to any other dental practice. Dr Patel always goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is so generous with his time and so very kind. His work is meticulous.
There’s a great atmosphere - all the staff are so welcoming and friendly. I actually enjoy my visits there.

Highly recommend this dental practice

As an older person I am sad that in my earlier life my teeth did not have the best care resulting in a wide variety of problems. Since going to Dentistry 100 (dentist Sagaar Patel), my teeth have improved 100% both in terms of the way they look and how they function. Mr Patel is meticulous in his work, his practice is up to date and he is extremely caring. I am not nervous of going to the dentist but can imagine his kind and thoughtful approach would be good for people who are. I would highly recommend this dental practice.
