Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the service, citing issues with slow processes and a lack of accountability. Customers frequently reported negative experiences with customer service, describing staff as rude, unhelpful, and difficult to reach, with long hold times and agents providing inconsistent information. Reviewers also expressed frustration with payment issues, including unexpected charges and difficulties with transfers, and felt that prices were unfairly increased without explanation. However, some customers also noted positive experiences, particularly with specific financial advisors and their teams, praising their integrity and service. A few other people also felt that customer service was quick to respond when needed, and some found the process for certain insurance claims to be smooth and easy.

I just received a letter from Desjardins. I am disgusted with the fact that Desjardins is trying to 'steal' more money from me by making up the fact that my vehicle is high risk and that they need to collect an additional $500 each year. My Ford Bronco is not listed in any of the lists published with the models of the most frequently stolen vehicles in Ontario (where I live)!

I would give them zero if I was able…

I would give them zero if I was able to. I have been a customer with them for 8 years, insuring both home and auto. In 2022 we added an additional vehicle. They informed me today that they decided to give their "Adjusto" an overhaul this year. Originally, we were told our discount would be locked in as long as we had insurance with them.

Our policy renewed this year with an incredible spike in cost. I finally had the opportunity to contact them today, I was preoccupied with the death of my mother. The agent informed me that they had removed the old Adjusto program entirely along with the discount it had provided us.

With the cost of the auto policy increasing 23%, this would also increase the cost of the mid-policy cancellation 23%, giving us a lovely fee of approximately $830. Never having a single claim, what loyalty.

When adding the new vehicle in 2022 they also updated none of the information regarding the other two vehicles.

If you are looking for an insurance company that provides no loyalty, will squeeze you for every dollar, and stab you in the back when you decide to say farewell, they are the one for you!

The good news is a class action lawsuit has already started against them. What a horrible company.

Nothing is covered by this “insurance” and it takes forever.

This company offers home “insurance” and advertises that you’ll be covered for living arrangements, etc, but in practice they won’t cover my costs to put up my father in-law while his apartment has been completely destroyed, and they claim it takes 3 weeks to even appraise the repair costs let alone start the work. I am so frustrated that I’ve been paying them thousands of dollars for years for such poor service. Don’t use Desjardins!

Worst insurance experience ever

Worst insurance experience ever - got into a car accident and was left 2 weeks with difficulty with even daily tasks. Had my vehicle towed and after being a customer for countless years they did nothing and refused to pay the towing company, leaving the towing company to take money out of MY OWN bank account. After being off work for a month already and having a family to support. You're better off with another insurance company because this was utterly disappointing and horrible.

Horrible

Horrible. My bank switched from Desjardins to another credit card. Desjardins continued to take a payment from my account and couldn’t tell me what it was for and told me there was no way for them to stop it. So, I’ve been paying into something that has no use to me and I have no way of getting reimbursed. Honestly, such a joke and I’m really upset about this. I had to call my current credit card and ask them to put a stop payment on it. Hopefully that helps because if not I need to get a new card completely. Worst service, they didn’t help me in anyway. Thieves.

So there’s the obvious human rights…

So there’s the obvious human rights violations, adversarial treatment and discrimination happens with what seems like everyone on the claims side of the equation.

And for me and so many others there is a lot more to the story. I will be sharing “ASAP” as possible.

Date of first contact/when bullying and harassment started very shortly after was December 2022 and continues to present day when the following email was sent April 4th 2025

In the meantime,

Hello,

In trying to leave a Google Review for Desjardins Insurance, I found that it is not possible to post one for the company or any subsidiary. Is this allowed? It feels very suspicious and intentional. Can't imagine they would get more than one star across the board for their customer service on the claims side of things.

Somehow they are not regulated by the BBB. It feels like they are trying to avoid all accountability by somehow getting away with having their own "internal" ombudsman which just means further barriers and discrimination.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

And we wonder why society turns to violence when their voices are silenced. I think I have made more than a peaceful effort to resolve this and SUBSTANTIAL action needs to be taken on Desjardins part, please kindly and respectfully be a human and act like our survival depends on one another because it does!

do they have a different set of policies on how to deal with customer complaints on the selling side as the do the withholding side?

Is there anywhere I can post my review that would

This is not a cooperative

I have been a member of Desjardins for almost 30 years. I received less than $700 per month (less than social help) to complete my Master's degree, and right now, I have no income as I seek a job post-graduation in the midst of the trade war against the U.S.

As soon as I found out that I had an unsollicited transaction on my credit card, before it had been approved, I contacted Visa Desjardins via their messagerie system, as they say to do on their website.

They refused to help me. I contacted them by phone, explained my financial situation, and explained that the company is in China. They still refuse to help me since "it is not a fraud", and now I must pay double the initial amount I initially paid to the company.

Well, heck, this is not a cooperative at all. Desjardins obviously is not there for their members. THEY ARE THE FRAUD!

P.S. I have been applying for multiple jobs, and they leave the candidacies of their job applicants in floating in limbo for several months (are they really hiring or are those "job jobs"?)

No reasons to be loyal to this bank

I've had my bank account with Desjardins all my life. They came to my primary school and got us to each open an account and put our little dollars in each week.
It wasn't really a choice, it was the normal bank to choose as a French Canadian...!

Can't say I had anything to complain about until I became the owner of a house and of a car. When I started needing insurance and some loans.

My context is that I make a really decent salary, very good job security but became a single mom at the same time as I acquired a home in the countryside (hence suddenly needing a car). Had to have many months without pay due to maternity leave + no daycare were available at the time. That definitely put a strain on me financially but, ultimately, good outlook for building myself back up!

Well, the pain I've experienced in dealing with this bank in all of this adventure had stripped me of any sense of loyalty towards them.

Even my mortgage, wow... The entitlement. They were acting like they were doing me a favor. I went to a few other banks while waiting for their approval because I was getting nervous. The other Banks were begging for this 25 years of me paying them interests...

In the end, they accepted and I thought it would be much more simple to stay there. They gave me a money incentive to choose them as my insurer as well on both my house and my car.

I was away from my home for February and March and missed two monthly insurance payments. I know I know, very frowned upon with insurances.
(Also, grant you, all this being said, I'm a bit of a "head in the clouds" type person. That's a flaw that adds obstacles on my path, agreed.)
I have been okay but tighter, so the money wasn't there on two occurrences. Then the payments went through, both together.
I called to know how come my payment was double (i really wasn't aware of the previous failure to pay). I was candid, polite and absolutely ready to collaborate but the lady on the phone spoke to me like a piece of garbage. I really think people like that should absolutely not work in customer service. Even if I was poor and unable to pay my insurances, on the verge of bankruptcy; would that justify speaking to someone like that? It really surpasses me.

She announced to me all the repercussions of these failure to pay. I was very confused because I was like "but I did pay now, didn't I?" But no, i had offended the big machine!
I suddenly remembered my dad almost losing his house over not having opened a letter and had failed to pay what he was very much capable of paying. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

I was transferred to the perception department where I spoke to a lady capable of good customer service despite the theme of her job. Was told that I could get a second chance if I paid the year in full, today, no later, because they need to know I can pay.

I made it happen, although still nervously waiting for the payment to go through (I've been staring at my bank account) because if, for some reason, the full amount is not there when the payment goes through, i will go through hell to get insured again.

I know this is standard, apparently, but I don't get it. This huge bank making billions on insurances and loans, they cannot tolerate any kind of delay in payments? Isn't 680$ paid 2 months later really absolutely ridiculous for them?

I really wonder, are there banks that value their longterm customers more and are more sensible, or no, they all act like that?

In any case, this experience and a few little ones here and there, reminded me that, (and I can hear my father say it), "banks are not our friends". I have no reasons to be loyal to Desjardins.

Desjardins has failed to show any kind of reasonable decency towards me and the money I bring them.

I promise that, when I can, when I'm well settled with a nice chunk of savings and a desirable profile, i will change banks. I will take the cake elsewhere in the hopes I can still be delusional enough to trust my new bank has my best interest at heart.

Horrible insurer

My company switched to Desjardins. Their online claim section is horrible. Slow at refunds. You need to file line item by line item BUT they don’t ask you for support at that time only to ask you for support when they pay out bigger amounts. Basically a way to delay your refund when you could have provided support at the time of original filing. If they’re this bad with simple dental claim, I can’t imagine filing a claim for something serious with these people.

If I could give zero stars, I would...

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Desjardins has been nothing short of a nightmare.

In early December, I was in an accident, and Desjardins provided me with a rental for just five days—only to abruptly take it away, leaving me completely stranded. No alternative solutions, no assistance, just "too bad, figure it out yourself." This forced me to accept their settlement, which, as expected, was in their best interest, not mine.

But the nightmare didn’t end there. Since my car was leased (meaning I paid thousands over the years), I expected at least a shred of support. Instead, once they took my car, they failed to inform me that I had to manually cancel my policy—resulting in them charging me for TWO FULL MONTHS after my car was gone. This was never communicated, never mentioned, and conveniently only brought up once I noticed the ongoing charges.

Their lack of transparency, poor customer service, and outright negligence are astonishing. They do everything in their power to minimize payouts and maximize profits, leaving customers in impossible situations. If you're considering Desjardins for insurance, RUN. This company preys on its customers, and I wouldn’t trust them to insure a bicycle, let alone a car.

Avoid at all costs.

Desjardin insurance is a bad joke

Desjardin insurance is a bad joke

They will offer you say $3,000 coverage for crowns, but when you actually make a claim, they will tell you that they pay for what they think the procedure costs, not what you paid for it, so prepare to get only a fraction of a fraction of your expense.
