The IKEA-Generation is in charge.

No option (for this price). Never again. The IKEA-Generation is in charge. No toilet paper, no TV, Tea or Coffee only in the lobby.
Booked a double room: less than 1,40 m wide, one side towards the wall. Thank you.

Inhospitable hospitality workers

There are reminders everywhere that “this is not a hotel” that is abundantly clear with both the service and attitude offered by the student staff. It is however still hospitality. There is little that is hospitable about staying here. We were on the 4th floor (5th floor in US). The elevator was broken throughout our stay, only a problem when getting luggage up and down. On the second day we were warned about problems with the water supply and told not to drink the water. This is a university campus and one should be a PhD. Student to understand how to operate the washing machines (it took me an hour!) No housekeeping, no problem…but there are no facilities so you can keep your room clean and tidy. No shampoo or shower gel, no fridge. Extra towels at a €5 charge and a €5 euro charge for left luggage…per item! Stay here if you’re desperate!

Not a bad stay at Abbeyhill in Edinburgh

The staff were very helpful, good location, great price. The room was not spotless, dust on the floor and desk but bathroom wasn’t too bad and the shower was fabulous. Booked it to see The Killers so we were only in there for the overnight sleep. We did find it very noisy. There was also no bin but apart from that, it wasn’t so bad and have to say I would probably use it again.

Avoid at ALL COSTS

Booked a room for 2 people for the Edinburgh Fringe. Room was supposed to be double with Ensuite.
It was not a double room, the bed was too narrow for 2 people. Mattress was well worn with coil springs sticking out. The entire building was like a sauna - rooms must have been 30 degree C plus. No ventilation - windows open about 2 inches. They give you a fan with a £20 Deposit !

We left immediately and booked into Holiday inn for just £50 more. I had 7 other friends staying at a different building and their story was the same.

Front desk full of people making all sorts of complaints.

Will be fighting for a full refund and doing my best to highlight the issue on social media.

Advise - please just pay a little more for somewhere else and avoid this place at all costs.

If there was a negative vote l would…

If there was a negative vote l would give it. Avoid this place especially. If you do not mind leaving your debit card at reception and paying an unexpected fee for £100 without warning. This is to cover for light switches being pulled off and holes in wall potentially at New Mill Dublin. But even worse reception would not give me room keys even though l had paid in advance or a refund (l had to go through my bank later to get it). We were stranded with no overnight room abroad even though female and safeguarding concern. They rely on foreign young visitors who cannot speak much English and spring the trap via a note on reception desk that you HAVE TO pay £100 deposit and leave your card behind reception!

Preys on vulnerable

When you get to the accommodations which is posing as university halls…it is not…(l am a female traveller plus a female friend what if l had been alone??) and arrived late and tired after travel. Reception do not answer the gate bell and we had to wait for someone to come out…we went to reception and the hotels.com had taken the fee for the room before arrival against my wishes.
Reception refused to give me my room key unless l gave them my card details as l booked though PayPal.
They wanted £100 in addition and insisted that we had been given previous notice. We asked a few different people who had travelled from abroad and not one of them had been notified of this extra £100 upfront fee! (Due to people pulling light sockets out and punching holes in the walls we were told!)
We did not want to stay there and l was refused a refund! This is so dangerous as we were without a place to stay in a different country!!! The confirmation email from hotels.com was not formatted and no details could be seen except the reservation number !! I had used the reply button to request an eligible email before setting off but it was ignored twice.

We requested to speak to the manager/team leader but there was none!!! We’re given a generic email query address to contact as there wasn’t anyone in charge.
Never again!!
I still have not received a refund.

The worst experience we ever could have…

The worst experience we ever could have was with this accommodation. We booked a room for one night and we found the room we were given was a total mess. I will upload the photos if possible here so that you could see for yourself however I uploaded them on google reviews. We are not student and it was open as a hotel for public. We regret the whole idea of coming from England to Edinburgh because of this room.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE

Me and my friend (two young girls in their 20s) choose this hostel, because we tried "Destiny Student" in Edinburgh which was an amazing experience, but turns out in Dublin, it wasn't so great! First of all our room wasn't ready when we got there (even though we were there an hour later then told from the information). We then got a random room which was rather disgusting – the toilet wasn’t clean at all! There was no soap, no towel for our hands, everything we had to ask for our self. The lock on the door didn’t worked, so they got us another room. A night we were kept awake from some young people going to a festival. The party was very loud and going on into the night, and nothing really was done about it, even though we had a sign saying, it should be quiet at 11pm.

But the worst experience of all was the last night when a random man came into our room in the middle of the night. A shouted at him, and he went away, and that’s how we found out that we couldn’t lock our door from the inside! So basically we have been sleeping for 7 nights in an unlocked room! The man then tried to come into the room again later in the night two times in a row, so we then decided to go to reception. Here the people had a very bad attitude towards us and said that “oh it is really too early for this”. They then discover that our lock wasn’t working and got the man out of the hall. The big door into our hallway was also supposed to be locked but wasn’t which was the reason for him to even be there at the first place.

The next day they wanted to give us the money back from the night. I was very upset about the whole situation. I thought it was much too cheap for them only giving us the money for one night back when you consider what could have happened to us! They then agreed to give us money for two nights back and being tired from the night I agreed. We then waited for 14 days but no money was coming. We then contacted them and suddenly they only wanted to give us money from one night back even though we made another agreement. It was only with help from hostels.com that we got the full amount back.

But really this isn’t about money, I much rather wanted to not have that awful experience in the first place than haven got my money back. I mean two young girls sleeping with an unlocked door, and a drunk man coming randomly into their room… So nothing nice to say really about that place.

Again: Edinburgh: amazing
Dublin: awful!

Destiny Student - Shrubhill and Murano.

We stayed at both Destiny Student - Shrubhill and Destiny Student - Murano. The stay was excellent. All the facilities of home at a great price. We used the kitchen facility, huge plus point. The location was excellent. One of the best value I had stayed in. We had great service from the friendly staff. I would compare it with any 3 star hotel in London at a great price. Would definitely recommend.
