Motorhome complaints
I purchased a used motorhome from Dickson’s Motorhomes, Perth for £51,000 on 19th of July 2025.
Make and model Chausson Welcome mileage spprox 25,000
Since purchasing, I have been plagued with faults / some of which were highlighted on delivery and some have developed since. On each occasion, Dickson’s Aftersales have either grudgingly fixed the issue using cheapest method possible, or issue still outstanding , or disputed the repair. On the first visit to the workshop, there were around 4 things to be fixed:
1. Missing end trim around skylight above driving cab.
2. Scratch on drivers side panelling adjacent to drivers door.
3. Water damage on cabinet door below cooker (highlighted prior to purchase) - has been replaced by a door which does not match
4. Cooker front hob and grill won’t stay lit.
We are still awaiting the new cabinet door which allegedly was ordered in July and scratches to be repaired.
Second visit to Aftersales garage to repair:
1. 9th August - Clutch Slave Cylinder broke down when I was on the isle of Mull and had to be recovered to base in Gartmore by my insurance company. Dicksons assured me this would be covered by Autoguard Warranty/ it was not. Dicksons promised they would fix under my years’ warranty with them - took 3 weeks before they could fit it into their garage schedule (15th September) - then blamed misuse of clutch, refused to let me take my vehicle until I paid them £637. 79. I felt pressured into paying this.
2. Lock into main cabin won’t close and then lock.
3. Front cabin skylight won’t close afteropening.
5. Main cabin fly screen not working.
7. Still awaiting cabinet door replacement below cooker.
8. Main cabin door broken due to inferior quality (evidenced by the fact that Chausson parts are now supplying a solid handle)
10. When van recovered from site at Aberfoyle after being told it would be picked up 8.30am - did not arrive. Dicksons had to book another recovery vehicle which did not arrive until 2pm.
11. waste pipe severed by Dickson’s designated recovery vehicle. Note, Dickson’s repaired this.
19th September and 2000 miles later, the ‘new’ clutch fails again leaving me stranded again. My insurance immediately say it is a repeat issue and that they want to see invoice of original repair. On examination this invoice shows that Dickson’s only replaced the clutch slave cylinder and not the flywheel, which would’ve been standard practice. When I contacted Dicksons, there was no apology that we’d broken down again - instead asked if the handbrake had been left on (no, it was not! / again trying to blame me for their shoddy workmanship).
I research some trusted garages and find that a full new clutch including slave cylinder and flywheel can be bought and fitted for £840 - no garage I spoke to said that they would never fit a slave cylinder without replacing the flywheel (cost of flywheel circa £200).
I have decided to get a trusted garage to repair this time as I have lost trust and confidence in Dickson’s.
Dickson’s say they are not liable for any costs and that, basically they are blaming my bad driving for the clutch fault. Note / I have been driving for 50 years and never has any of my cars had a clutch failure.
I would never use this garage again. Their service is non existent and their attire to customers appalling.
