Buyer Beware of Direct Energy Deals Sold at Sam's Club

In 2020, Direct Energy refunded my deposit because I canceled my service agreement with them in good faith. I acquired the agreement while shopping at Sam's Club in the Houston, TX area. The rates in the agreement were 20-40% higher than they showed me at the Sam's Club. It is my understanding that such pricing practices are known as bait and switch.

Direct Energy decided that they wanted the deposit refund back. When I refused to repay the refundable deposit, Direct Energy reported their error to the 3 credit bureaus, negatively impacting my credit during the pandemic and continues to do so today.

In my opinion, Direct Energy did not deal with me honestly. I thought they were trustworthy because they were selling their product in Sam's Club, of which I am a long-time loyal member. I made Sam's Club aware of the misleading practices of Direct Energy to no avail, as Direct Energy continues to sell energy deals in 2023 in the Sam's Club in Friendswood, TX.

They are crooks

They are crooks. They just sent a $850 bill for natural gas! I'm one person in the house, who goes to work. And they do not care, they basically tell you to go screw yourself and hangup.
Avoid!

Stay Away from Direct Energy

I was called and notified by these robbers that I would be charged a $295 cancellation fee. Well, we’ll see about that. I switched to TXU because I could never connect to the Direct Energy app due to their terrible platform. This after I finally connected and spoke to the highest level of their tech department; and they were unable to remedy the situation. There are other electric utilities that serve TX. IF YOU’RE SMART, stay away from Direct Energy.

Promised us the proverbial ‘moon and…

Promised us the proverbial ‘moon and stars - that our bill will be slashed in half of what we paid with another company LIES! Talked with a ‘supervisor’ after a long time with the salesman to no avail. Our bill wasn’t slashed in half. Now we got out but won’t get any $$ back because we ‘signed a contract’. Yeah! Right! At a kiosk? And we couldn’t even see the contract as it was on his phone!
The guy had a kiosk at our local Walmart!! NEVER NEVER buy anything at a kiosk!! Husbands! Listen to your wives!!!

I moved residence within the same city

I moved residence within the same city, I was on a fixed term contract. When they moved my services they did not hook up both gas and power. Cancelled my contract and put me on a floating very high rate. After 3 months I phoned. They said there is nothing they could do for the mix up.. signed another contract.. three months down the road was back charged 3 months and told it was because I wasn’t on contract again.. was told several several times I would get a call beck. Never did. I spent months..so many hours on the phone trying to get things resolved. Would tell people.. 100% stay away from this company!

Absolute crooks

Absolute crooks. This company keeps terrible records and makes things up as they go along. For the past 6 months, I thought my bill was unusually high, but just paid it anyway. This past month I received one of the highest bills I had every gotten and was out of town for three of the four weeks in the billing period so I knew something was off. Company told me that my actual usage was 76 dollars, but that I had signed up for an average bill program. This program has never once saved me over 20 dollars, but I had been billed at least 40 dollars over for the past 12 months. That’s an unbelievable amount of overpayments. I told them to take me off immediately, which they did, but could not issue a credit. Renews my contract with them a few months ago and wanted to cancel but that‘s an extra 300. Considering they had already pocketed close to 600 bucks in overpayments you would think they would let it go. Huge mistake to go with this company. Avoid, they are nothing but scammers.

Energy direct are a bunch of crooks

Energy direct are a bunch of crooks. Purchase a house with a hot water tank that was being rented by these thief’s. Ask to buyout the contract of 10 years 11 months they wanted an additional $575.00. The lifecycle of the water tank is 14 years and the cost is $1,100.00. The previous owner has paid out $3,534.00 for this tank. And just to add salt to the injury, they won’t pick up the water tank. One would think that if $575.00 is still owed then there must be some value of this tank, but no. This crooked company should be sued for taking advantage of its consumer. I will continue to tell my story of this company and tell everyone I know to stay away from this organization. Here’s the best part the installation was against code and was installed in such a way that it was a potential fire hazard to the home.

Horrible Company!!

Horrible company to be a customer of. Their rates are completely ridiculous and in my opinion, out of control! They basically double charge you, and when you call them out on it, they say that it isn't a double charge, that they don't charge you for about 2 months in advance, so your bill you pay each month is actually the bill that is due 2 months prior...at least that is what the girl explained to me today when I called in for an explanation about my final bill (as I cancelled them after they kept increasing my bill each month for the last 3 months even though I am on a budget plan.

In my opinion, it is hard to contact them overall, and when you do get ahold of them, no one can explain anything to you properly. It is like they read you out what their computer tells them to say, and half of it is meant to be in complex language that the average person does not understand. When you ask them to explain further, they just give you the same explanation. So frustrating! I am so glad I have cancelled them as my provider! Worst company ever in my experience!! If I could rate them at a 0, I would!

Direct energy does not care.

I own this house. 2024 St Edmunds crossing Dickinson Texas 77539. I do not live in this house. It is a rental house. They put a switch hold on because a tenant did not pay his bill. For 3 weeks we have been trying to get it removed. I have sent everything they've asked. I even received an email stating switch hold removed.
Now I have new tenants trying to move in. They went through their provider to transfer service to the address. Cannot turn power on because direct energy put the switch hold back on.
These people had to cancel their movers and they're about to be homeless because of direct energy.
For 3 weeks I have been sending them everything they needed to remove the switch hold prior to renting out the property.
I did not want new tenants to have to go through this.
It is not right what they're doing.
They've blocked my rental house from being rented, They are causing my new tenants to possibly go homeless, They have been sent everything they have asked for over the last 3 weeks., My deed my note they want a copy of the previous tenants They have received everything. They need to remove the switch hold.
If this is not illegal it should be.
The news needs to know about this The people need to know about this.
This is a company that does not care.
I have tenants that have nowhere to go because of direct energy.
Again they even emailed me and said switch hold was removed after I sent them a copy of my deed to show I own the house and I'm not the one that owed the money.
Now they decide to put the switch all back on. They're totally messing up innocent people. That is not right.

Today I even tried to find out what my previous tenant owed. I was just going to pay it. Then take them to court to get my money back.
They wouldn't even give me that information because I'm not on the account,. So there is no way I can get my new tenants in my house.

VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE

had a very terrifying and very stressful experience dealing with customer service and supervisors. lock up price is not true. they give you reasons to just give up and get tired waiting for call backs and line up on the phone when you've got issues. i am very stressed and traumatized by this experience with DIRECT ENERGY. if i have an option to give a very bad rating, i'd do that.

So I didn't go through direct Energy

So I didn't go through direct Energy, I had a broker named United Energy pick it out and it is stellar. I started it for my business in August last year and my rate is fixed at 8 cents while neighbors are paying 12 cents. So if you do pick a Direct energy try going through a broker named United Energy cause they make life much easier.

Just stay away!!!

Don’t miss the notice about the contract expiring. Rate triples upon contract expiration. In my opinion, it is not worth the risk of missing contract term and being charged an exorbitant rate for the small savings they offer.

I nearly fell victim to this scam!

I’m ashamed to admit I nearly fell victim to this company after skyrocketing energy costs in my state.
I live in a very small state in New England and it’s very hard to find decent energy suppliers because we have so few options. What’s available for us can usually charge premium prices because there’s little to no competition.
I fell for the sleek looking website and attractive low electric supplier rates but based on my research and personal experience it’s definitely too good to be true.
The major red flag for me was when my “contract” came in the form of an emailed link that had to be downloaded before I could even read it, to me that’s just super fishy and seems like a tactic to get you to not bother reading the terms and conditions.
Fortunately after skimming through about halfway I realized I was still within my rights to rescind the contract and I did just that.
I’m waiting to see if that’s enough to get these guys to leave me be, but based on what I’ve read I’m pretty sure these guys are going to keep pestering me.
Thanks be to God I never gave them any of my banking details, but I put a freeze on all 3 credit bureaus just in case!

I signed up for natural gas on 9/27/21…

I signed up for natural gas on 9/27/21 , however I never received an agreement and when I called them each week there was always an excuse. We are processing your account or I can't find it just hold on. Then after a few minutes the problem is I work from home and I can't get answers. Will get back to you if there is a problem. This week on a CHAT line I was told it would be complete in24-48 hours. NEVER DONE. Now after 2 months you need to enroll again. I had this company in the past with no problem until it was time to renew the contract and the price was JACKED up. I did not learn, but at 80 years old, you try to trust people with the pandemic and inflation being over the brink. I am very upset with them and advise anyone looking for a price DO NOT FALL for this gimmick. THEY DO NOT complete the agreements and just string you along.
