Out of Pocket

I'll keep this short - I wouldn't under any circumstance use this company.

Despite submitting copious evidence, not only have they not reimbursed me for a room I was unable to use due to misleading and inaccurate information, but they have ignored all correspondence.

Untrustworthy.

Room was disgusting

Room was disgusting. Dangerous panels left open on wall in bathroom that would fall off when tried to close it. Stains on carpets. Mould on windows and in shower. Wires hanging from back of tv. Didnt stay the night. We booked somewhere else as it was not really a nice place to be in.

Absolutely Appalling – Unsafe, Filthy, and Uninhabitable Accommodation

I booked a stay at Royal Discovery Whitby through Booking.com for 11th–13th April.

We arrived at 15:30 on the 11th, but due to the utterly disgraceful and unsafe condition of the property, we were forced to vacate by 09:00 the next morning.

The property was in a shocking state:

No fire safety equipment – no fire extinguisher, no fire blanket, a serious safety concern.

Illegal electrics throughout the property, will be making the local council and HSE aware of this property.

Human faeces stains on the living room sofa.

Rat droppings, especially under the kitchen sink.

A filthy kitchen – oven and hob covered in grease, leftover food in the grill, clearly not cleaned in months.

Blood on the bedroom wall, white unknown substance on vanity table.

Walls and floors were heavily stained; playdough and food ground into the carpet.

Pubic hair, mould and general filth in the bathrooms.

Graffiti and burns in the living room beams.

General dirt, grime, and food debris throughout the property.

We were assured by Discovery Properties that a cleaner would attend by 17:00. When we returned at 20:30, nothing had been resolved. Travelling with an autistic child, we had no safe alternative that night and had to stay one night under protest.

Customer service offered a complaint form but said it could take up to 28 days to respond – an unacceptable timeframe given the severity of the conditions and no alternative clean accommodation available in any of their local properties.

Booking.com advised we leave and file a complaint – which we did. I’ve submitted photographic and video evidence to them and now the property aren’t responding to Booking.

Do not book with this company!

Dirty accommodation and rude staff

Upon arrival to our accommodation we found it to have not been cleaned properly. In the bathroom there was hair and cobwebs leading along the wall from the bath to the door, a shower that didnt even work and a partially blocked plughole. In the kitchen there was a dirty kitchen floor, crumbs over the units and I wouldn't even dare use the toaster, hardly any crockery and a very sad looking fridge. There was a loose plug socket in the bedroom and the only way to use WiFi is if the t.v is on. I complained to discovery through message and also via email and was met with a rather rude email back stating they wouldn't do anything as I didn't phone and basically washing their hands of the problem. I would avoid using this company and wish I had checked the reviews on here first.

Dirty and stained bedsheets, appalling customer service…

We booked it online and found that bedsheets were covered in stains. The bathroom was below average standard of cleanliness. It was soul less ,no.customer service and absolutely appalling customer service when rang through their 24/7 customer helpline. Complete and utter waste of money and time. Appalling, unpalatable and unbearable experience. I wldnt wish it on my worse enemy.

Appalling

Appalling. Lost for words. Unclean sheets. No parking when the place was advertised with parking. Couldn't find the actual place we were staying but the locals seemed used to lost tourists and were happy to re direct us. Saw another couple of lost souls wandering around looking for their accommodation too...DON'T Waste your money!!!

Room was tired looking and run down

Room was tired looking and run down. Although the carpet was clean and the bathroom acceptable, the furniture in the room is old and basic, there were cobwebs on the faded lampshade and mouldy walls with missing plaster. We paid £150 a night for this supposedly luxury mini suite which I would describe as a run down bedsit. The only good thing going for it is decent WiFi, although this only works when the TV is on. The TV was tiny and miles away from the bed and half the channels didn't work. No response from the office about this. Wish I'd read the other reviews on here before I booked. Avoid at all costs.

Nothing like photos

Not has photos. Really dirty . Bathroom covered in mould. The pool is streets away. It was so disappointing. . Stay away from this company. We couldn’t get hold of anyone. When we got home they wasn’t at all bothered about our ruined weekend

Paid extra for sea view,but on arrival…

Paid extra for sea view,but on arrival was moved to a different hotel over looking a builder's yard,kept been locked out as code pads wouldn't except codes,tried to book parking but website wouldn't recognize my postcode, spoke to company who sent me a email saying use there's still wouldn't work and got no more response from company, over all very disappointing.

Absolutely disgraceful service during…

Absolutely disgraceful service during my stay & after service. I am still fighting the matter & have taken legal advice. Avoid discovery accomodation at all cost. I ended up in an absolute filthy slum. The chairs in the lounge were covered in stains which I can only describe as white bodily fluid, the hard & carpeted floors had not been cleaned in god knows how long, dried blood on floor, tea & food stains on worktops, kitchen cupboards & dressing table top, broken bulbs, cobwebs absolutely everywhere, 2" of inground dirt around the bottom of the bed divan. I took 31 photographs as evidence, complained using the correct procedure, spoke to someone during my stay & physically pointed out the issues to a member of staff. Nothing was done at the time, nothing has been done since, apart from receiving short emails accusing me of making up the allegations & sending 5 photos they had taken of the bathroom suite & bedding (I did not complain about either the bathroom suite or the bedding) so am at a loss to understand why they sent me these photos. Strangely enough, they have not sent me any photos of the things I complained about. This company is a disgrace & should not be allowed to operate. The sooner they get shut down the better. I will be sharing my experience of this disgraceful company on every review site I can find & all my social media accounts & asking friends & family to share. As the saying goes "There is more than 1 way to skin a cat". A simple apology & offer of some compensation was all that was required for this company to make amends.

Avoid

The stay itself was fine, the room was lovely although a device on the wall was beeping incessantly through the night, waking my family up on several occasions. Their customer service on the other hand is not acceptable. (We're chasing a measly £14 refund for an uneaten breakfast). Contact requests are now being ignored after briefly speaking to a manager on the day and being asked to put request in writing. This company is only interested in taking your money and as accomodation is ten a penny in places like Whitby, I would advise avoiding this place and staying elsewhere.

Horrific service

Stay was pretty good, lovely room. However the breakfast was awful, and having pre-booked both days in advance, I requested to cancel the following day whilst at reception. I was advised that it would have to be done in writing via email, which I did that day. I had no response, and having chased many times I've had a 2 line response saying I will not receive my refund. £14 for a service we didn't have, and requested to cancel in advance, in person and in writing - not unreasonable. Worse still, their service is non-existant, with the only response seeming to come from their Facebook page. The manager on duty couldn't be bothered to deal with me on the day, and now won't even respond.
