Total scam. Changed itinerary, many things we were supposed to see we did not, kept asking for more money which I paid so he would ot cancel my trip. Until the last day I was worried he would leave me stranded.

Jeffrey Munoz is a thief and criminal who did not honour a trip where we paid him $33000.00. He cancelled the trip due to flooding in Brazil - then refused to answer any emails, He deleted his phone numbers etc. so that we could not contact him on any forum.

We wired $4500 to him for our Photography trip to Costa Rica, he called 2 days prior to our departure to cancel the trip due to his leg injury. We cancelled the flight and car rental. We then asked for refund....after bunch of excuses and finally not returning our request. From what I understand - lots of photographers from US had similar issue with him.

He maybe a good photographer, but he is a thief. One day, Karma will get him.

For all the birders who are considering bird watching in Costa Rica, pay attention! Avoid any contact with Jeffrey Munoz - JEFFERY MUNOZ, owner of DISTICTIVE EXPEDITIONS, is probably a very talented bird and photographer, but a liar and crook! At the time, I signed up for his trip, paying $ 2600 in forward fees for me and my wife. For medical reasons, we have decided, long before, the date of the cancellation penalty, and in accordance with the terms set out in the quotation. To date, more than 10 months after, he has not returned the money, despite countless promises that "next week" he sends the money.

Distinctive Expeditions Costa Rica and/or Jeffrey Muñoz ARE A Thiefs UNRELIABLE AND NOT TO BE TRUST BY ALL MEANS.
My late father, Jacob reznik R.I.P , and my brother Eldad Reznik were supposed to travel to Costa Rica together with my father before he was diagnosed with Cancer and later unfortunately died.
My late father did some down payments for this said trip with the value of 2600 USD,
Unfortunately, Jeffry never replied to my Emails asking him and the company to fulfill his obligation and return the alleged amount.

We were one of Nate Chapell’s clients on the Costa Rica tour in spring 2019. We can verify everything Nate has indicated in his review. We were shocked to find out at the last minute that Jeffrey had bailed on our group. Nate did a great job on saving our trip. The worst part was that Jeffery was leading ANOTHER group on the same dates and at the same locations we had originally booked! What a shock to see him and his group at several locations where the tours overlapped. I even talked with one of his clients in that other group to confirm Jeff was leading them. He was getting paid twice! Unbelievable! And.. shameless....

In short our experience with Jeffrey Munoz and Distinctive Expeditions, now called Rainforest Photo Tours was very unfortunate. Jeffrey co led a tour for us in 2018 which went reasonably well. We paid him to book and pay the lodges, arrange and pay for the transportation and for his guiding fees upfront. We scheduled another tour for 2019, but 5 days before the tour he cancelled on us and our 7 customers. Fortunately we were able to rebook the trip with a similar itinerary with the help of another Costa Rican photographer and our group had a nice trip. But it created a lot of stress on me and our tour leader. Now it's been over 4 months and he still hasn't refunded our tour funds, nor has he indicated that he will. Like the review above, he basically ignores any inquiry about this. Do not trust this person or company with your Costa Rican tour, there are plenty of good operators out there.

I am updating this as of October 2020, now 18 months after our tour was supposed to occur. Jeffrey Munoz never refunded any of the more than $19,000 we prepaid for this tour that he cancelled on us. We also ended up finding other photographers who had booked trips with him which he cancelled and did not refund their funds. You can see from the other reviews here also that it was not an isolated incident. So beware of working with him or scheduling a trip with him or his company.

I purchased a vacation through the owner of this company, Jeffrey Munoz G. Once the money was received by the company, I never heard from him or any representative of the company, Distinctive Expeditions. I've tried numerous times to reach the company but never received an itinerary for the trip or confirmation that the vacation was actually booked by this company. After months of not hearing from the owner (Jeffrey Munoz G.) or his company, I had no choice but to cancel the vacation in compliance with the policy outlined on his website. According to his policy on the website; I am entitled to a full refund (several thousand dollars). That was 9 months ago, and still no communication and no refund. I've contacted the Costa Rican Authorities regarding Jeffrey Munoz G. and have discovered the "Travel Agency", Distinctive Expeditions, IS NOT a registered business, only a website. I have also recently found out that Jeffrey Munoz, G. is NOT ICT licensed, although he continually refers to himself as a licensed guide and has gone as far as to include an ICT license number in his email title.

Research any and all travel agencies carefully. I had met Mr. Jeffrey Munoz through another travel agency while in Costa Rica; therefore I thought he was legitimate. I was wrong! Jeffrey Munoz G., knowingly and intentionally sold a fraudulent vacation package and has stolen thousands of dollars from me. I can only hope others reading this will not make the same mistake, do your due diligence.
