Drake is FANTASTIC!!!

Drake is FANTASTIC!!!! I am an 84 year old practioner (CPA) three years into semi retirement (Kept only my tax practice). Switched to DRAKE in 2024 after 30+ years
paying outrageous sums to CCH Prosystemfx. Should have made the switch years ago.

Drake was esy to convert over, ease of use is wonderful, support has always been there for me in real quick time, and price is amazing

Drake Desktop usage.


I've used Drake for many years, and with each improvement the service is less easier to maneuver and more complicated. They are now using a comment after each help, and the survey takes too long and keeps the preparer from working with the client on a timely basis.
With this being said Drake customer service is the best.

nice program for the cost

For the Price, it is a very nice program, but It times you out after 30 minutes which I find very annoying. If I'm delaing with client emails or doing my own record keeping such as scanning or inputting my bookkeeping I have to make sure an dopen a client or something just so I don't get locked out. Other than that I't a good program for the cost.

I have been a Drake user for over 20 years, this was the worst year I've ever had.

If Lacerte wasn't so expensive I'd be with them.

Tech support is not great

Tech support is not great. Support people are evidently reading the Drake information that I can find online. I need to demand to a more knowlagable support person (next level) I very rarely call as I can do my own research but when I do I need someone who knows taxes and the program.
This season was rough enough without having forms approved IE: 1040ES and others.
I have thought about moving to another program after using Drake since 2014.

Drake is great!

Easy to use, good pricing structure, and EXCELLENT customer service. The UI isn't super polished, but it's efficient and effective (especially for a sole preparer).

It is very helpful and easy to use when you have fully knowledge of what are you doing. To have the best experience it is necessary to read the manual and to take advantage of any free classes or pay for them if necessary.

I have used Drake for many years…

I have used Drake for many years strictly for tax preparation. The add-on products are a waste of time for me. The program works very well. I rarely have to call tech support. Most input is very intuitive. However, tech support has declined in recent years. I usually end up hanging up and figuring it out myself. Support techs are using some kind of AI search engine, and the responses have been idiotic.

WHAT WENT RIGHT?... NOT MUCH

Wow.. used this package since the 80's.. This was horrible... it ran slow, didn't get business package for state approved until after Feb 15.. Some schedules didn't add correctly, The programming was beyond bad.. oh.. make sure your K1's roll.. they would suddenly act like partners were companies and say not a client... back out of system .. come back in and they would roll.. you can't trust this program.. the people they hired had no creditionals. Some were good... most ere horrible and sometimes would just hang up on you so you couldn't even leave a survey about them. A company in London bought Drake out... scary to think another country is controlling so many returns that are being sent to the IRS

24 Years of Satisfaction

I’ve been a Drake customer since 2012, and it continues to stand out for both its simplicity and capability. Transitioning from my previous software was seamless, and the program has remained easy to use without sacrificing robustness. Whether preparing personal or business returns, Drake handles it all effectively.

Customer service has also been a strong point in my experience. While I’ve seen some comments about changes over the years, I personally haven’t been disappointed. Most of the time, my issues are resolved immediately after I call and share the return. In the rare cases where it takes longer, the wait is brief, and I’ve never had a problem go unresolved.

After comparing other options on the market, I still find Drake to be the most economical choice for small to midsize practices.

In all my years using Drake the past 2…

In all my years using Drake the past 2 years have been absolutely the worse. I have called with so many issues and got bad information, silly requests for things I did not ask for, lack of response when I was told issue were being moved up the ladder. My trust in Drake has gone way down and I will be seriously looking for another program to move over to. I also believe the use of Rightworks and Drake have created more issue for me than its worth. I am looking at utilizing another cloud based system if I stay with Drake, HOWEVER, I am almost certain that I will be moving over to a different software system for tax season 2026.

Tax Preparer using Drake for over 20 years

I have been a sole proprietor tax preparer for 50 years. Drake was getting very expensive with the cost per return method. The one user unlimited returns option allows me to service my senior clients and keep my rates withing their budgets. Having used Drake for over 20 years, I am happy with the software. It could be better in certain ways, but overall I am pleased with it..

Software errors.

One tax return, to my knowledge so far, data was changed and returne filed without any action on my part. Filed return was wrong but I don't know what was filed because it wasn't the return that I prepared. Customer service was no help. File sent electronically to support twice. No response or acknowledgement. Client is over the top angry because I can't explain what is happening. Minor software errors on other returns found so far.

Using Drake Tax Online it gets better

Using Drake Tax Online it gets better, but you can tell that they are transitioning. Not sure about how things will pan out for the program users for download. But if this is a tech company now, as opposed to a tax filing platform company time will tell. The online experience is rather straightforward. I switched because I'd rather a company keep data secure and not my server. I just have a small practice and not building an empire.
