Bad Job Have Still Not fixed It

Had this company come to do a tarmac job for me last year. Approx March 2024 I've had to estimate the date below.
The positives
They were polite
They arrived a week late however this was due to weather and kept us informed.
They did the job in the four days they had said they would.
The negatives
I wanted to be present when the tarmac was being laid however they dumped the left overs from another job whilst we were away and did not wack it down just spread across.
They asked for money whilst the job was being carried out, but we had agreed to pay when the job was completed.
I had issues with the job as soon as I drove onto the drive, mainly parts had sunk under the weight of car and other parts had peeled away.
Once monies were paid contact with the firm was almost none existent.
They managed to carry out work on 3 drives 800 meters away but could not visit to see our job.
When we did manage to get in touch Simon visited the property and made promises of returning to fix the job, 1yr on no sign of him.
They are more expensive than other firms.

Lessons Learnt
Look around for others
Write a contract in as much detail as you can eg materials to be used , time the job will take and any other aspects of the job, payments. ( The one presented by this company is very basic )
Do not pay them until job is completed satisfactorily and you have used the surface ie driven on drive etc.
All the above is my opinions and not legal advice etc just what I've learnt after hiring this firm.
