I had a very unpleasant experience renting a car from this company. At the airport, I was charged €300 simply because I did not have a physical credit card, even though I provided all the necessary details and documents.

When I returned the car, they later sent me an invoice claiming a €30 charge for a “new damage” — a small mark on the tyre that could very easily have been there before my rental.
Overall, the experience felt unfair and poorly managed. I do not recommend ECH Rent a Car, and I will certainly never rent a car from them again.

I am writing regarding my booking made via your platform StressFreeCarRental with the local agency Easycarhire at Trapani Airport (Booking No. 1127373947, from 01/08/2025 to 08/08/2025), with Full Protection insurance included.

My experience was very disappointing, and I would like to detail all the issues I encountered, as well as my request for reimbursement.

1️⃣ Conditions imposed upon arrival
Upon arrival, I was asked to pay an additional €300 because I did not have a credit card, only a debit card.
This information was not clearly communicated to me before booking and ended up more than doubling the actual cost of the rental.

2️⃣ Forced additional insurance
I had already purchased "Full Protection" insurance via StressFreeCarRental (€60 paid at the time of booking), yet the agent forced me to take an additional local SCDW insurance.
Your confirmation email clearly states that the local agency should not sell any additional coverage on-site when the customer already has Full Protection.

3️⃣ Deposit charged
I had to pay a €200 deposit with my debit card. A refund form was filled out upon returning the vehicle, but today I learned that this amount will not be refunded.

4️⃣ Mechanical breakdown and lack of assistance
The day after picking up the first vehicle (a Fiat Panda), the battery failed.
The agency only contacted roadside assistance to jump-start the car, without sending me a replacement vehicle.
I then had to drive over 50 km back to the airport to exchange the car, despite a warning light (ESC fault) being clearly on (see attached photo).
Driving a vehicle in this condition is dangerous and completely unacceptable.

5️⃣ New deposit requested for the replacement vehicle
When I arrived at the agency for the exchange, I was asked to pay a second €200 deposit, which I refused.
I was still given a replacement vehicle.

6️⃣ Retention of the €200 deposit for damage
On August 11th, I received an email from Easycarhire stating that my €200 deposit would be retained for a scratch on the rear right bumper.
They specify that this amount corresponds to the reduced excess thanks to the SCDW purchased on-site.
However, since I already had Full Protection insurance with you, this amount should be fully reimbursed to me under your coverage.

BEWARE, everywhere they say that a debit card is no problem, but at the counter they will add extra insurance which costs another 40 euros per day if you don't have a credit card. Maybe that's how most rental companies do it, but I was not happy with them when I picked up the vehicle.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, IT'S A SCAM.
The car that was given to us was in a very bad condition and full of dents. The initial review was not very thorough on their part but they went to great lengths to find the tiniest mark when we were returning the car - some so minute they could not be spotted from other angles / if the light fell differently and they were very keen to charge for those.
The rental is also very far from the airport and the shuttle bus is very infrequent so you are risking missing your flight.

Rented from these robbers at Trapani Airport in February 2024. Everything went smooth at the airport, returned the car, no damage etc. 4 months later, they took £200 from my credit card for alleged traffic violation’s and them having to tell the police my details. 8 months later still no contact from the police. They are complete SCAMMERS AND THIEVES! BEWARE THIS COMPANY!!!!!! THEY ARE WAITING TO ROB YOU!!!!

What an easy and stress free carhire firm with quality cars and very freindly staff.

This guys are the scum of Palermo. Never go there, they will charge you extras for everything and you will end up paying triple the price. The place is in the middle of nowhere, meaning you wont have another chance but take the car. After the rental they will charge you for non-existing damages. They are liars and should be ashamed of themselves.

I booked the the car online to pick up and drop off at Trapani airport which was very easy. The easycarhire
desk was located with the other car hire company’s in the airport terminal building.
All the paperwork was ready I found them very efficient
and polite,after completing the paperwork I walked a short distance outside to collect the car from the compound it was clean and full of fuel. I traveled around the island with no trouble and returned the car after 10 days. I was very pleased with the whole experience .

It’s a scam. We reserved a car for 300 euro and end up paying 780.
Sales man wasn’t helpful and his explanations were mulky

Dear friend stay far away from this cheating-fake car rental. I ordered an SUV but got a crossover, which is like ordering a pizza and getting a sandwich, the two things have nothing in common, except they are both food or in this case cars. Then they present you of two options 1 they will bind 1000 euro on your credit card or 2 you will pay 300 Euros deposit which they will pay back when the car is safely returned, or the latest 7 after. They have no intention of paying back the deposit as I later found out. On e-mails they claim to have sent the money to my account, but when asked to provide proof with account number, communication stops. If I had chosen option 1 they would probably have taken the 1000 Euro and given me the finger. Like they did with the deposit. No need to tell there is no money returned to my account at the writing moment the 16.05.23
