Excellent experience with Autovia Fiumicino. I want to give a special thanks to the lady who handled my rental: she handed over the keys at departure and received the car upon return. She was professional, and very friendly! Regarding the security deposit, it was released right after my email this morning, one week after the return. This delay is perfectly reasonable and correct. Everything is in order, I highly recommend them!

Avoid Ecovia at Rome Airport.

This company appears to rely on opaque rules that can be invoked whenever it suits them. The entire rental process felt designed to pressure customers into purchasing expensive additional insurance, regardless of the coverage they had already bought.

The queue moved at a painfully slow pace because almost every customer ended up arguing with the staff. There was only one employee at the desk, yet the real bottleneck was the aggressive sales tactic: customers were repeatedly told they needed to buy insurance, even when they had already paid for full coverage through a third party.

That is exactly what happened to me. I had purchased full insurance through Booking.com before arriving. The moment I refused to buy another costly policy from Ecovia, a new obstacle suddenly appeared. I was told that my credit card was invalid because my middle name was abbreviated to an initial—a completely standard format used on countless credit cards worldwide. Curiously, the very same card had been accepted to make the reservation.

The impression was unmistakable: once I refused the additional insurance, the company simply searched for another reason to deny the rental. Whether this is an official policy or the conduct of the Rome Airport branch, the outcome is the same. Customers are placed under pressure until they either pay more or leave without the car they reserved.

A company that treats customers this way has no place operating at one of Europe's busiest international airports. I would never rent from Ecovia again, and I strongly advise others to look elsewhere.

Dear Autovia/Ecovia Team,

Thank you for acknowledging that an abbreviated middle name alone should not invalidate a card when the first name, surname and cardholder details match the identification documents.

I am willing to meet with a responsible Autovia/Ecovia representative, together with the employee who was working alone at your Rome Fiumicino Airport desk on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at approximately 20:30, and who handled my reservation. This would allow the facts and her conduct at the desk to be established directly.

The refusal to provide the booked vehicle has already cost me hundreds of euros, as I was forced to make another reservation with Locauto. It also caused further financial losses, personal inconvenience and considerable emotional distress during a family trip.

I formally demand the full reimbursement of the amount paid on 14 July 2026 for a vehicle that was never provided to me. I also request reimbursement of the additional expenses directly caused by this incident, including the cost of the replacement rental.

Please preserve the relevant staff records, desk records, card-terminal information and any available CCTV footage from that evening. I can provide my booking reference, proof of payment and documentation relating to the Locauto reservation and other expenses.

Please confirm who will be responsible for reviewing my case and when I can expect the full reimbursement.

One thing - it's not nice the aggressive try to buy company insurance

First of all, the clerk at the airport was very nice and all went effectively. We got a brand new car with only 40 km. Picking up in the car park was also easy, return too. Easy to find on the way back to the airport. They made a thorough check, of course, but everything was very quick, effective and with really nice employees! Great value for money. Highly recommended!

The insurance was very expensive 200 euro for 5 days.

The company accommodated me with a bigger car at the same price when I went to pick up and was totally satisfied.
Staff very professional and friendly...will consider them again definitely

The staff was as helpful as they could be in Rome letting me leave my luggage in the office when I had to go downstairs to the main office, being helpful with the car itself and giving advice on how to get where I was going. Although I didn't receive the car I had asked for which was a panda, I very much liked the Yaris. The car was also very clean.
