The item ended up costing me more than…
The item ended up costing me more than double with the shipping and duty and fees. It was a small 9ct heart now costing over $500.
Took forever to ship.

Having reviewed the situation, we can see that your item was dispatched on the exact same day that payment was received. Once shipped, the parcel took 4 working days to reach the destination.
With regard to the overall cost, import duties, taxes, and customs charges are determined by the relevant authorities and are not set or retained by Elmwood's. These charges can vary significantly depending on the destination country and are payable in addition to the hammer price, buyer's premium, and shipping costs.
We appreciate that these additional costs can sometimes come as an unwelcome surprise but they are separate from the auction charges applied by Elmwood's.

With regard to shipping, we are sorry that we were unable to provide a more precise dispatch date when you called. In the days immediately following an auction, and this one particularly, our Post Sale team is processing a large volume of invoices, payments, collections, and shipments, and whilst we always aim to dispatch items as quickly as possible, we are not always able to guarantee an exact shipping date at that stage. I do apologise if this wasn't overly helpful at the time.
In relation to fees, our buyer's premium is in line with much of the auction industry. As we do not charge seller's commission, this is an even more key part to our business compared to other auction house.

Undisclosed fault on purchased item
I recently purchased a ring at auction. Upon receipt the emerald was visibly and audibly loose in the setting, a significant fault that was not disclosed in the lot description.
When I raised this, I was told condition reports should have been requested prior to sale and was offered a repair at my own cost. I don’t feel undisclosed faults should be the buyer’s responsibility to uncover.
Disappointing experience.

Having reviewed the matter, our position remains that, as with many antique and vintage rings, settings can occasionally require minor adjustment or tightening over time through normal wear and age. Whilst we appreciate your concern, we would not regard a stone requiring a slight tightening as grounds for returning the item for a full refund.
We had offered to arrange for a jeweller we use to inspect the ring and tighten the setting on your behalf. We advised that this would likely be a relatively minor repair, and this would typically costing in the region of £10–£15, although an exact figure would depend upon the jeweller's assessment. This offer remains available should you wish to take advantage of it.
We are sorry that this solution was not satisfactory for you but are still happy to assist in resolving the issue.

I still haven’t received a tracking…
Buyer beware !!!! I bought a pair of earrings for $340.
Elmwood then charged $144 of mindless fees.
Then I got a bill of $104 for shipping . So my $340 earrings cost $755.
Do NOT buy from Elmwood believing the price you see is the price you will pay !!!!!

We had emailed around 24 hours ago as we do not have a correctly formatted address as the provided one pulled through to our back office with different symbols and punctuation within the first line. As soon as we have the correct email we will be able to dispatch your items as soon as possible!
EDIT - Thank you for supplying the full address Andrea. Regarding the fees, I would like to break it down below;
Hammer price - £340
Buyers premium @ 25% - £85
International shipping to North America - £44
Non-European card charge - £14.07
The above is all Elmwood's have charged and we try and be as transparent as possible with all fees. There are import fees applicable when importing goods from almost every every country into the United States at the moment due to tariffs imposed by the US government last year. These are payable via the shipping company, DHL, and are completely out of our control I am afraid. This was all explained on the phone earlier today when you had called.

Careful about what you buy
Very interesting policies indeed.
I have found their policies to be one-sided and designed mostly to protect the company.
They mix silver items with finer jewellery which should really be gold only and often list items as not having assay marks without a hint of whether they are even gold.
I really think when buying fine jewellery knowing the metal purity and stone details is essential.
Since the auction deals with people also buying online, ensuring they receive what they pay for is so important.
Selling an item stamped 18k described as they see it without testing it when in reality it turns out to be a different purity is not ok. This is dangerous as it makes such fine auction a swindler's magnet and in time buyer's trust will be lost.
I really recommend every item to be XRF tested in multiple parts!
You will receive less condition reports which leads to less work for you. Win/Win.
There are some interesting finds on there but I will be careful about what I buy from them in the future!

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your purchase as we always aim to provide accurate descriptions and ultimately give a positive experience for both our buyers and sellers. 25% + VAT for buyers premium is also rather standardised within the auction industry, and we do not charge any seller fees for our sellers unlike any other auction house.
The item in question was purchased from one of our No Reserve - Jewellery auctions rather than a Fine Jewellery sale. The chain was described as being stamped 750, whilst no representation was made regarding the metal fineness of the pendant itself.
When cataloguing, we have to do this based upon our examination of the piece and any marks present. Where an indication is not made to an item being a precious metal, we are always happy to provide further information, photographs, or a condition report on request prior to sale.
Whilst we appreciate that the item was ultimately not for you, we are pleased that we were able to reach a solution and have agreed to re-offer the piece for sale on your behalf.
