We hired MARK HAYNES as a Bagpiper for…

We hired MARK HAYNES as a Bagpiper for our mum's funeral on Wednesday 7th February 2024. Mark and I unfortunately did not get the chance to meet in person beforehand, but we did have clear and continued communication.
Mark was fantastic on the day. As a Scottish family we have booked and heard many bagpipers over the years but Mark is definitely up there with one of the best 👌 Everyone, even the funeral director commented on how amazing he was.
So once again Mark, a MASSIVE thank you for your professionalism and expertise. Hopefully we will get to book you again!!

Andrew Brian Bagpiper.

Using Encore was effortless and simple. Bagpiper Andrew Brian played wonderfully at my mother's funeral, giving her the best possible send off. Andy was very professional, liaising with funeral directors and cemetery attendants prior to the event. Ensuring the best service could be delivered. I hope to secure this outstanding musician's service's again in the future hopefully for less solemn circumstances.

Burns Supper at Ashford Manor golf club

We booked Andrew Sanderson for a Burns Supper at our golf club in Ashford,
He checked with us what we wanted beforehand. He turned up promptly and played outside to welcome all our guests and afterwards he piped in the haggis.
He was well turned out and smartly dressed in a kilt.
He was exceptionally friendly and polite.
If you decide to book him for a function, you will not be disappointed.

Friendly and fast.

Simple to use website and quick contact to give a choice of musicians. Very quickly contacted by my piper Millie who has been delightful to deal with. A great experience.

A great website to choose…

A great website to choose musicians/singer. The response from Musicians was quick. I was able to pre-view their talent and listen to their songs before I made my decision.

Terry and Christine. Piping duet.

Terry and Christine were wonderful. Willing to adjust their performance timing to suit our slightly delayed timings. Played wonderfully and had people singing along. Great feedback from our guests and indeed the venue. Heartily recommend them! Thanks Terry and Christine.

25% Mark-up on musicians price.

I have been a musician on this platform for several years and have had dozens of bookings.
Encore provide a good website service to search for musicians, and provide a seamless payment service that protects customers, plus they have processes to check the abilities and performance of the musicians on their platform. It is probably the best run of the platforms that musicians can easily join. However, Encore have three significant concerns for customers you should know about:
1) They Charge a 25% mark-up on the artists fees, for running the website and payment system. This will add up significantly if you hire a large band/premium performer or people from far away.
2) They put a floor under the prices quoted by musicians, in order to maximise their own revenue.
3) They will try to get you to post a job even if you are just looking at who's available, which is a pain for everybody.
I am posting this review now, because the 25% mark-up now applies to all costs, including travel (previously travel was excluded).
If you see an artist you like on Encore, you will probably find them somewhere else, for less.

1. 20% Service Fee:
Encore makes the booking and event experience far smoother and safer for both customers and musicians compared to booking directly on a musician’s website, guaranteeing a worry-free experience.

Here’s how we do that:

- Secure Payments
Our fee ensures the use of an extremely secure payment provider, providing peace of mind for both customers and musicians. We prioritise the importance of safe transactions, so all payments are incredibly well protected. This does cost us a lot to operate, but it’s well worth it for musicians and customers alike, as it allows secure and timely payments that are protected by our refund policies.

- World-class Support
Our service fee helps fund a robust customer service team, who are on hand 7 days a week to assist with bookings, respond to queries and quickly resolve any issues. We also have a team of Bookings Experts on hand to help customers with their music search, a Technical team keeping the website running smoothly, a Marketing team that attracts a constant stream of well-paid enquiries, team members in charge of chasing and securing payments for our musicians, as well as a dedicated team of Musician Support Experts who will help you with any issue (big or small!).

- No Sign-Up or Subscription Fees
Encore is free to join and free to use. As musicians ourselves, we believe that we should only make money when we’ve helped a musician secure a well-paid booking. This is why we charge a service fee to our musicians whenever they’ve secured a booking through us, rather than charge an ongoing subscription fee.

- Professional Supplier Guarantee
We’ve all heard the stories of customers receiving nightmarish service from event and wedding suppliers. Our team’s musician vetting service ensures every customer is in the safe hands of a true professional.

2. Minimum Fees
You raise an important point about the pricing floor. This is really important to us, and is in place to ensure fair compensation for musicians.

Like everyone, professional musicians deserve a fair wage, and so the minimum fees enforced on the site are in line with the Musicians’ Union minimum recommended fees.
This helps prevent the undervaluation of your talent and expertise, and guarantees that our customers are booking true professionals for their special events.

3. Travel Expenses
Thanks for raising this - your sentiment is totally understandable.

However, this change simplifies the quoting process for all parties and aligns with industry standards. Rest assured we have been monitoring the quoting changes very closely, and our findings show that they have been positive for our musician community. We’ll be sharing more on that with all our musicians very shortly.
