Engage Conservation provides authentic, life-changing opportunities for all. Students, couples, families and solo adventurers of all ages can experience the wild beauty of South Africa’s northern Limpopo region and help with initiatives to protect the unique wildlife and its habitats. By joining an Engage experience you will work with iconic African animals like lions, leopards, and hyena, and learn how to track and monitor them across the three sites we operate from. Our programmes are built around all our ongoing projects, and we want each volunteer to gain practical experience and learn real world skills across several disciplines in wildlife and habitat conservation and management, including camera trapping, tracking, data management, and anti-poaching activities. Engage Conservation is dedicated to making sustainable and impactful contributions to the ongoing issues in wildlife conservation and human-wildlife conflict in northern South Africa. This includes: Working with local guides and the community to support sustainable solutions to current issues, developing projects to monitor animal populations and protect habitat, collaborating with other research and conservation organisations to share data and provide a bigger picture of wildlife conservation and its challenges across South Africa. You can book an your stay for anything between 2 to 12 weeks, and all volunteers will undertake meaningful and impactful conservation activities that will provide valuable data for our current projects.

Incredible experience

I spent an incredible 2 weeks with Engage Conservation and it has honestly been one of the best things I have done. This was my first solo trip and I had minimal experience in wildlife conservation but Michael made me feel very comfortable and I have learnt so much in the short time I was there. Michael is extremely knowledgable and brilliant to learn from, he made every day exciting and made an effort to ensure I saw as much as possible while I was there. If you are wanting to experience amazing animal encounters and learn about wildlife conservation in South Africa, whether you have experience or not, I would highly recommend Engage Conservation. I can guarantee you will have the time of your life, meet incredible people and learn from someone who is genuine and passionate about protecting wildlife. I will definitely be coming back!

I learned so much at Engage

I learned so much whilst at Engage Conservation, not just about the incredible wildlife we worked with, but also about the ups and downs of life in South Africa. Michael can always make a plan, and his knowledge of the animals, their behaviour, and tracking is amazing. Watching him use this knowledge to find different species is a wonder and something I have learned so much from.
Every day brings a new experience, whether that be seeing a beautiful animal or laughing with the amazing people you meet along the way. The skills I have learned will be so valuable for my future career in conservation, and I can’t wait to go back!
