Just don't

Hard to get in contact with. Raised my monthly rent even though it would be the same lease length. Leasing manager never able to get in contact with.

Connecticut heights

equity is the worst company. In Washington DC you can find brand new apartments for less of what this company charges. Connecticut heights. Do not rent there. Dc has better options.

THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!

After living at Bell Fontaine for two years I can honestly say DO NOT RENT THERE or at any of Equity residential properties. They will rip you off and you’ll see it in your move out charges. They charged me to replace carpet that was under warranty and didn’t need to be replaced. They also charged me astronomical fees for cleaning and painting. There was no damage to anything in the unit, just simple wear and tear. Be prepared for them to raise your rent 10 percent every year and to retaliate against you for moving out by charging you unjust move out fees. You’ve been warned!

Camping pass is a scam

The rv parks are awful. The website doesn't work. When it does work the information (like what time you can arrive is wrong. Perhaps the only good thing that happened is that the person you call (after you are stranded after a long days driving because the website says you can check in at 10) actually vdid find us somewhere to stay. She was amazed that we would book online without calling the place.... Hmm kind of the point of having online booking.

So it's now clear that the 2 horrible nights we actually use will be our only use of this terrible product. No way to get your money back.

Also there are many complaining about them doing unwanted auto renew. I cannot get them to confirm it's off auto renew, so there's a real chance that after all my complaints and requests to terminate, they might auto renew me after 2 years of payments and 2 nights in terrible park (one way out of our way due to their useless website.

Don't buy their camping pass or any of their other products which I believe are even worse now that I have read the reviews

Rent Bandits

Rent Bandits, They start you out with a rent you’re ok with, lease renewal time, oh this time its 200+.. ok .. maybe inflation?? ok .. next year comes.. no way they’re going to increase it again right ??? Wrong … how bout an extra 300$ for this rent renewal?? don’t worry your old appliances are fine! we know they keep breaking and we keep putting band aids on them… so basically if you want your rent to increase 2-300$ every year this is the place for you.

Destroying people's lives after COVID

I was a resident at an Equity residential property for several years pre-covid. Always paid my rent on time. When COVID happened I lost my management position in the service industry. My Jesse at the time even said if I lost my job I could give 30 days to vacate without being responsible for the remaining lease. I did this and moved back to the west coast. My roommate refused to have and they refused to work with me in anyway to resolve this. I moved because I could not afford the rent so I moved all the way back across the country and now they put on my credit report that I owe them $13500 in back rent.

What's even more disgusting is that they boast in their financial reporting that they did not suffer loss thanks to their billions in dollars of assets, have already written this off and recorded tax breaks for it. I however cannot get approved for any place now unless I pay them $13500 for rent in a place that I didn't even live in.

I will NEVER consider Equity Residential again. They do not care about people they only care about money.

ZERO benefits - Disgusting front office and care

I recently visited my daughter and I was amazed at the horrid customer care. Packages consistently go missing, hallways and common areas are filthy. They market package lockers and you pay for this convenience in the rent, but the complex refuses to set them up so residents can utilize. The homeless camp in and around the building accessing units. The response from the apartment complex and the holding company was to lock doors and just suck up that packages get stolen. Unacceptable! Especially when you pay a premium for the "perks" described in the rental agreement. Disgusted and horrible customer care.

Outrageous Electricity Bills from Unregulated Provider

I’m counting down the months until I can leave my ER-owned apartment and escape from the outrageously high electricity bills that have tripled over the course of just a few months. There has been no meaningful action on the part of management despite residents’ pleas to address the skyrocketing prices, which have all come from the unregulated electricity provider Equity Residential has chosen to contract with. We do not have individual meters, and we are not provided with transparent information about usage and pricing. Over the past three months, my ~1000 sq ft. 2 bed/2 bath apartment has been costing about $300 per month in electricity alone. When residents expressed concerns about the rising prices (as we have been doing for months now), management essentially blamed it on hot weather and people forgetting to turn off the AC, when in reality the electricity provider has unregulated rates that are 2-3 times HIGHER than the regional, REGULATED energy provider. By Equity's own admission there has not been a significant increase in the usage of electricity--- just a massive increase in the price their provider charges.

The ordeal we have had to put up with just to get basic information about our bills is ridiculous. Equity Residential tries to make itself out as being “energy conscious,” but this is just an image they exploit for their own bottom line.

Luxurious for rats, but not for humans

Equity Residential offers attractive, beautifully located "luxury" apartments at staggeringly high rents with zero sensitivity to basic resident concerns about documented forcible intrusions, destruction of property, rats, and ancient, falling-apart appliances. Numerous trespasses, an unlawful entry, destroyed security cameras and padlocks, and not one word of acknowledgement or assistance from the corporate office, just a demand that we re-sign our lease 60 days before expiration at $6,519.20 per month (yes, $6,519.20) or let ER begin showing the apartment. I wonder how prospective renters will feel about the multiple openly visible rat traps (pest control is evidently the resident's responsibility), grisly photos of decapitated rodents, ten individual security cameras (again, the building has none, not in back where it matters most), oversize photos of previous trespassers and intruders (to remind us in case we spot them lurking in the distance), glass breakage alarms on every window, double siren alarms on our patio gate (Equity Residential won't install a fob system in back, only in front, so individually installed siren alarms were our only practical option), plus myriad tripwire sirens if prospective renters decide to visit the patio. Eventually, a dog or baby will be bitten by the rats, a violent trespasser will injure or kill a tenant, or an ancient appliance will catch fire and destroy multiple units, but ER will no doubt insist it took reasonable precautions (double-speak for hiring lawyers), when the cheapest and most reasonable precautions were systematically ignored. 1 Harborside Place in Jersey City has breathtaking views and is just 2 blocks from PATH, but it is rat-infested and plagued by trespassers. Pack a rifle, mace, butcher's knife, or whatever, and NEVER leave your door or window ajar.

Equity Residential Sucks. Plain and Simple

If you are looking for competent building managers, Equity Residential is NOT for you. If you are looking for apartments that care about their tenants, Equity Residential is NOT for you. If you are looking to feel safe where you live, Equity Residential is NOT for you. If you are looking for unhappy neighbors, please go to Equity Residential. If you are looking to find animal excrements throughout the property, go to Equity Residential. If you are looking to spend $4000/month and get robbed at knifepoint at the door because the security guard you get charged for in your monthly bill is sleeping in the alley, go to Equity Residential. If you want to be grossly overcharged for cleaning, go to Equity Residential. If you want to be charged double for not informing them you are leaving even though your contract lease is up, go to Equity Residential. If you want to be charged extra because of a mistake from the leasing office that gets switched every couple months, go to Equity Residential. If you want to put in requests to have things in your apartment fixed and it take two weeks, go to Equity Residential. If you want to be sad, definitely go to Equity Residential. #EquityResidentialSucks

Equity Got Greedy!

I have been a tenant with an Equity property since 2016. Up until now, there have been no problems. First, I want to say I LOVE the property where I'm living, the staff (property manager, leasing agents, maintenance are all absolutely wonderful and the grounds are beautiful. However, I just got a notice that they are raising my rent 16%! I'm a property manager as well so I'm aware of the market but to raise me $332 in one fell swoop is insane. They blamed it on COVID and that market rates were low last year but many of us are struggling financially for that same reason. I then asked if I could have new carpeting and/or paint, and they flat out said no. I also have noise issues with my upstairs neighbors which although the property manager has addressed to them, the neighbors continue on with no regard for others. So basically, I'm paying almost $350 more for the "privilege" of old carpet, dingy paint and inconsiderate neighbors. Save your money and for this rent, buy a house, or look for a more compassionate company.

The manager and the maintenance…

The manager and the maintenance personnel have manure for brains. They just go on and on about equal, fair housing, while wearing their high heels around their nice leasing office decorated with laminate wood panels and the best furniture. Meanwhile, the pipes are so old that they are always leaking and breaking. Every month the maintenance team just shuts down the water for an entire day to fix the pipes, WITHOUT previous notice! so we just wake up and we don’t have water for the entire day. The drains/sink are always clogged. The fridge is so old, the door does not close. The stove just heats up and cools down, the AC leaks every time we turn it on. But the management does not agree to change any of the appliances! They want to repair everything. But every time we have a problem, we have to call 300 times for someone from maintenance to come and take a look. Even then, we have to stay home the entire day for someone to show up between 9am to 5pm! And they don’t even fix anything. So you need to look after their century-old appliances because the minute they stop working, not only do they not exchange anything, but you are also not allowed to buy your own appliances!
Usually they are so rude they don’t even answer your questions. But whenever they are showing the building to possible new tenants, they act so nice and friendly it’s disgusting

absolute crooks

absolute crooks. Rundown apartments with molds and leaks everywhere, 100 year old appliances and electric stoves that heat up on their own every time our neighbor next-door turns off their stove. Our food burns all the time. Because the kitchen has no ventilation, every time one of the neighbors burns their food fire alarms start screaming and the entire building has to evacuate. I spent the entire COVID lockdown out on the street because everyday someone’s burned food was setting off the alarms. The entire building reeks of burned smoke because there is no window in any of the floors to let the suffocating air out. During the summer, the dog poop heating up everywhere around the building makes it unbearable to breath.

If I could give no stars I would

If I could give no stars I would. This place is a mess and half. From mice everywhere, to extremely rude representatives. I live here and take care of my handicap mom. They have blocked the handicap space over and over, with garbage from other apartments. It took going to the state to get them to finally stop. The handicap doors rarely work and are extremely heavy not allowing for my mom who would constantly be stuck outside waiting for someone to open them. The office people never have a clue as to what is going on, and are probably the least helpful and rude group that I have ever met. One guy who works in the office will raise his voice at you, because he thinks that shouting down a tenant is best the way to handle things. Mice are constantly wondering the halls and coming out of the vents of the apartments. I would run from this place rather rent from it if I were in the market for an apartment. Just trying to save future headaches

Current tenant: Think twice before renting an apartment with them

I've been unfortunate to rent an apartment in one of the complexes that this company manages. I've pointed out a couple of issues with unit during the tour and asked if they can be taken care of (namely bedroom window was pretty dirty, scratches on the oven top, etc). Some things couldn't be fixed and that's ok. Windows supposed to be cleaned and when I moved in there were not. And now they basically just ignoring my requests to clean it.

As a former employee in NYC manhattan

As a former employee in NYC manhattan, their tenants can say or do anything they want and get away with it to where employees can get fired cause of their actions and nothing is done as a saving grace. You are also typically overworked and complaints from employees on management are not taken seriously. This is a real review as a former employee.

One of the worst apartment experiences…

One of the worst apartment experiences I have had. Management continually lied about expectations of ongoing construction projects which were carried out at noise levels above what is legally permitted. Some tenants were able to break their leases while others were asked to pay 2 months rent to move while construction continued for more than half the year. Simply appalling.

Tenants did fraud and paid with myu grandmas debit card and they don't want to help us!

Hello,
I am filing this complaint on behalf of my Grandmother Rosa Ramirez as she is older in age.

On 01/29/2021 one of the residents from Altitude apartments which are managed by Equity Residential used my Grandmothers Card to pay their rent. We have tried reaching out to this company and have not heard back from them. I spoke with one of the Managers named Erick and he said he could not help me. I reached out to the corporate office and left a Voicemail and still have not received a callback.

I made a dispute with the bank and they said that they are not cooperating with giving my grandmother her money back.

Please keep in mind that my Grandmother is a home owner and does not pay rent to anyone. Please i need help getting my grandmothers money back and I will keep making bad reviews until someone from your office calls me back!

Does Not Recommend - Noise and Lack of Professionalism

We have had several issues with the community but the biggest complaint is the noise and how the leasing team responds to requests.

All throughout the night you can hear your neighbors. Most nights, we are woken up it. We have reached out to leasing on several occasions but our complaints fail to be resolved. The leasing team often does not acknowledge the emails and/or has a solution.

Weed will often come through the vents and fill your apartment with the smell. You can also smell it from the corridors and directly surrounding the building.

The trash room is often filled with garage bags and recycling instead of it bring properly disposed of. It is very disgusting trying to put your trash in the shoot and having to step over other people's bags.

There has been security issues with the parking lot. I do not always feel safe walking from my car to the building. Parking can also be limited since unregistered vehicles park in the garage as well.

Overall, it appears to be a decent place to live but there is a lot of behind the sense things that are not visible when you initially tour. The buildings are built poorly and the overall quality is not there. I do not recommend this apartment community as you can find better for the same price.
