Unacceptable Quality and Lack of Support

I purchased two Mario Bellini sofa-chairs from Eternity Modern about a year and a half ago. The cotton velvet upholstery is beautiful, and the chairs are very comfortable—but I am deeply disappointed in their durability and the company’s lack of support.

About a month ago, a large rip suddenly appeared on one of the chairs, and the second now shows signs of tearing in the same area. These chairs have not been used more than 10–15 times total since purchase, and only by adults. They have been treated with care and absolutely not abused. This level of wear is completely unacceptable, especially given the premium price point.

When I contacted customer service, I was told that the one-year warranty had expired and, because I didn’t purchase an extended warranty, I was simply out of luck. They also said they don’t have any repair technicians in my area. I’ve repeatedly tried to reach a supervisor to ask for help—at the very least for a couple yards of matching fabric so I can have a slipcover made—but have received no response.

This is extremely poor customer service, and the quality of the product is simply not what you’d expect from a company that presents itself as a purveyor of high-end furniture. I expected these chairs to last for years. Instead, they’re falling apart after minimal use—and the company is unwilling to stand behind their product. Very disappointing.

Let me know if you’d like a version that’s even stronger or adapted for a different platform (e.g., Google vs. BBB vs. Yelp). I can also help you draft a follow-up message to a supervisor if you’re still trying to reach someone.

Wassily chair

My $1200 Wassily chair arrived, and one side of the arm rest has a lot of (ugly) wrinkles. The other side has a white scratch mark. I immediately emailed them with 5 close-up pictures for a possible exchange/refund/resolution. They asked for a video of the chair, so I took a 23 sec video and sent it.
Then they emailed back asking for MORE PICTURES, which I did.

They're saying that these wrinkles are natural patina, but no, they may be natural but they're NOT patina. I've shown it to multiple people including a person who works with leather and they've all agreed it's not.
Who would buy a brand new leather chair and expect to see part of it wrinkled up like that?
Patina is a natural, desirable change in leather that occurs over time. My wrinkly chair is not that; it's a manufacturing defect.

UPDATE

UPDATE - If you follow my saga about my son's bed ( they shipped the wrong headboard and it took so many months for them to ship the right one), you know I was very upset.
Well, they did make good and my son got the headboard. The bed would be 5 stars, but I took off a star as the shipping process to fix the headboard was ridiculously long.

DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE!!

We ordered a Egg Chair from Eternity Modern. The chair arrived. At first the chair looked great, however once we sat in it, it was clear this chair was extremely uncomfortable. Following that, we tried to engage the tilting mechanism and could not get it to work. We contacted Eternity Modern and they were less than helpful. At one point they asked us to apply WD40 and to hit the tilting mechanism with a hammer. Of course, a brand new $1600 chair should not require the use of a hammer and WD40 to get it to work correctly. It was at this point we decided to attempt to return this defective chair. This is where we ran into a huge problem. Eternity Modern said we would need to return ship the chair and pay a 20% restocking fee, in our case this was $630! Eternity Modern told us this was written and their policy and that they take no responsibility for sending a defective chair. Can you believe it! Eternity Modern sold us a defective chair, then put us on the hook to return it, or keep it. They would not budge. They were extremely unhelpful. They kept referring to their policies. Using their policies, which effectively reads as “Buyer Beware” as a tool to NOT stand by their product. Keep in mind the furniture you are buying from Eternity Modern are knockoffs. The chance of them not being crafted well is high. That is why they don’t stand by their products. However, don’t take my word for it. Read other reviews across the internet. The theme is the same. Buyer Beware!

Poor quality, doubtful made in China material is leather as advertised

I made an online purchase for the Eames Management Highback Office Chair, which is advertised as being made of "Genuine leather upholstery". I am familiar with leather furniture, and this does not look or feel like leather. It also easily got a small tear by simply swinging the chair into the desk, revealing it isn't leather. This is the only furniture I've ever purchased that has no tags/marks/stamps anywhere to indicate the brand or materials used! Nothing. Only "made in China" on the cardboard box it came in. I received an email from the company to leave a review for the Enternity Modern website, which I did, but surprise surprise the reviews are filtered, and they apparently opted not to post it, meaning you can not believe any of the reviews that are posted there, as they are hand picked. Buyer beware; I suggest you shop elsewhere. I'd place the value of this chair at 15% of what I paid for it.

Chinese knock-off

I ordered a pendant from this company a month ago. It was described on their site as the "Nelson Saucer Bubble Pendant", which is a REGISTERED TRADEMARK name by Herman Miller. Eternity Modern used the photo from Herman Miller, and priced the pendant at the same price as the Herman Miller product.

After waiting for a month, I tracked my package only to find out that it was in transit from *overseas*. I wrote to customer service to ask why my package is coming from overseas because the Herman Miller manufacturer is in the US.

Eternity Modern responded that their pendant is, in essence, a knock off. "We have our own version of the Nelson Saucer" they replied.

It becomes evident that the delay to receive a product from Eternity Modern has nothing to do with 'craftsmanship'. The delay is due to time it takes to transport products by boat from overseas, most likely from China. I found their practice to be dishonest, and misleading.

I asked for a refund. Let's see how they respond. Buyers beware.
