Money extortion

Business model of this company is to attract many customers with low prices then try to extort money to make up to the market price.
I booked car via Internet at this company because of slightly lower prices than competitors. On arrival I saw long queue to this and this company only - all other rental car booths were manned but no queue.
The car was OK, pickup service is fair (not good but acceptable). Contract I signed says they can bill my credit card for 2 years (!) after car return. This raised my eyebrows but I signed.
Car return was at early hours when no rental car personnel were present, so I just dropped my keys. Interesting events started after my return home.
They charged my card for ~300 USD and no explanation was provided. They had my phone, email etc but didn't bother to explain why they charged the money. Since I had had full insurance with a third company I was OK with the charge itself (I would be reimbursed) but I needed official papers - car damage report, invoice, police report. SOMETHING to explain why they charged.
I tried to contact them via web site form, by writing emails (in Spanish) - radio silence. I tried to call them and whoever answers would be nice but say this unfortunately is not their area of responsibility but they will follow up after the call. And then nothing again.
After a month of these futile attempts I contacted my credit card company and contested the transaction. After 4 months more the credit card company were no more successful at obtaining explanation than me and thus reimbursed me.
Summary - don't look at this company. Especially so if you are not Spanish speaker - you will be the first target. And no one will even talk to you in English, give up your illusions right now.

Expensive, but good rental

Expensive, but high quality 4x4 rental to drive the Carretera Austral in Patagonia. Car ran great. No damage on trip, so no extra charges on return. After check in when car returned, took photo of “OK” marked on paperwork showing no body damage, etc. Expect they’ll refund full deposit.

Biggest scam ever

Biggest scam ever. Paid for insurance on our rental car. The door was nicked by another car door opening (not our fault) and the scratch was smaller than a centimeter. When we turned in the car the company made us pay the full deductible of $300 even though the damage was far less than that. They also overcharge your card without telling you which is totally illegal. Will never use again.

Scam.

Scam.
Rented via internet. At the pick up we added insurance ( we don not speak spanish ) so we had to sign a paperwork which was in spanish.
We got robbed, they broke the rear window, so Europcar made me pay for the window...When i went over to argue about this issue , I couldn't because nobody spoke English...at the airport rental car!!!

never trust europcar in chile

I rented a SUV Santa Fé at Europcar because I could return the car in Providencia, instead of the airport of Santiago. I paid more for this.

When we arrived there was no Santa Fé avaiable, and the similar SUV was much smaller that Santa Fé, at the same category of the Hyndai Tucson.

When I picked up the car, I was told that I could return the car till 5pm at Providencia store. I arrived at Providencia store at 4:45 and it was CLOSED. I had to return the car at the airport and pay teh equivalent of USD 30 to get back to providencia. And I lost 3 hours of my last day in Santiago.

Botton line: never trust Europcar in Chile!

Follow-up to my Aug Review

Here is a follow-up to my review on TrustPilot on August 28 2017 about the $300 overcharge I got from Eurpocar after booking a car with AirportRental.com. This was for car to drive Temuco Chile to Santiago. Days after this review I got an email response from AirportRental.com. They informed me that they had found my booking and seems sincerely apologetic about the overbilling. They stated they would look into this with Europcar. About a month later (sep) I followed up and they informed that there was ‘computer error’ and that Europcar would be refunding money back to my credit card shortly. Another month passed (oct) and upon my inquiry AirportRental.com informed that there were some delays in communications. Another month passed (nov) and upon my inquiry they informed that they were in contact with the Europcar International Tourism Executive who will 'personally ensure the refund is actioned'. It has now been three weeks and still no refund or response. What do you make of this? ‘Thank you’ to AirportRentals for at least responding to me, as I have heard nothing from Eurpocar. But wouldn't it be better if AirportRental.com sent me the refund and they sort this out with Europcar, and not string me along? So it might not be a scam, but it certainly is not professional. I repeat my conclusion from earlier review: The moral of the story; deal with car rental agency directly, if you don't like surprises-- also I would not recommend Europcar if you are travelling in Chile.

Sincerely Mike

They over billed us!

Getting the car was fine and all worked well, but when we finished the rental they charged an extra two days rental. Despite providing documentation to then and their assurance they would fix it, nothing has happened in three weeks. Unprofessional? Uncaring? Not sure, but the lack of customer service and attention is appalling.

Serious overcharging at Sydney Airport, no attempt to resolve.

We booked a Europcar via Holday Autos, on return tio the UK we discovered that Europcat had deducted several charges from my credit card that were already covered in the payment to Holiday Autos, including airport collection fee and a contribution to their road tax (!). We disputed this and Europcar refused to engage and redirected us to Holiday Autos, claiming that we had booked a package that did not include these charges. (I have never heard of such a package). Holiday Autos eventually resolved the issue and refunded Europcar's overcharging. I note that Holiday Autos are now more transparent on what agent they use at the time of booking - and I will use that facility to avoid Europcar in future.
