Complaint

All I can say is, my concern with this company is the fraudulent charges they add to your bill and also the lies they tell whilst smiling to your face. I have logged an official complaint with European Car and Rental Conciliation Service (ECRCS) they have robbed the wrong person. Below was my original complaint, I hope this help someone out there.

Dear Customer service,

I am writing to request a refund of the €60 late fee out if hourse charge when I picked up the vehicle. We were not late for the pick-up; however, we had difficulty locating your shuttle service at the airport when we arrived. We had to flag down a moving shuttle bus in the middle of the road at night, as it was the only way to identify your service. Consequently, we arrived at the pick-up point at approximately 23:10.

We informed the driver about the ordeal of finding your company’s shuttle. He assured us that he would waive the late fee once we reached the office, as it was not our fault for arriving late. However, upon arrival, he showed us the screen and explained that he could not remove the fee because it was a few minutes past 23:00.

He offered us two options: either not collect the vehicle and come back the next day or pay the €60 and claim a refund later. Since we had no other means of getting to our hotel and renting a cab would have been too expensive, I agreed to pay the fee, with the understanding that customer service would refund the amount.

I recorded the entire interaction, including signing the forms with the dispute noted under the €60 charge, while inside the rental office. But this fraudulent company still did not provide my refund. At this point it's no longer about the money but the principle.

I 100% recommend Europcar in Santorini…

I 100% recommend Europcar in Santorini for renting a car.
Alexia truly made the difference with her blend of professionalism and genuine care, making our weekend on the island exceptional. After finalizing the rental process, and a free upgrade, she noticed we were unsure about what to do and where to go, so she went above and beyond by printing out a map and quickly highlighting all sorts of interesting spots—great fish restaurants, stunning sunset viewpoints, places for grilled meat, wine spots, pastry shops, ice cream stands, popular and hidden beaches, and even archaeological sites. Europcar is fortunate to have such a well-rounded employee who offers a complete experience.
Returning the car was equally smooth, with no hassle at all. Thank you, Alexia, and Europcar!

Highly recommend!

Excellent experience all the way

I am always very careful with my 1 ⭐️ or 5 ⭐️ ratings, however all went great with this rental

The car was in great condition, in spite of its 43k kms

The team at the welcome desk or at the car handover/return were very friendly and helpful.

Anything less than 5 stars would be unfair. -- hopefully same experience next year.

Dissatisfied with Car Rental Experience - Missing Features



Dear Europe cas Rental greece,

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent car rental experience. Despite choosing a premium 2024 Mercedes GLB model, the car I received was missing crucial features such as a prefabricated GPS navigation system and real parking sensors.

When I questioned the front office supervisor, I was informed that these features were not mentioned in the terms and conditions. I find it astonishing that in 2024, I should have to consider GPS navigation as an extra feature. This is a basic necessity for any modern vehicle, especially one advertised as premium.

I believe that this is a tactic to charge customers additional fees for essential features and to overcharge them for scratches caused by the lack of parking sensors. It is misleading to advertise a car as a certain model without clearly stating the included features.

I urge you to review your practices and ensure that all advertised features are included in the rental cars. This will help to avoid misunderstandings and provide customers with a more satisfying experience.

Last year when I rented in September…

Last year when I rented in September 5/5 stars! That’s was the reason I booked with this company again.

This time… a whole new experience.

If you have debit card they will charge you approximately 140€ extra.

Why? 1st - They are obligating you to have a physical card with you to pay. 2nd - if debit card they will charge you for a full tank and insurance.

Instead of paying 70€ with a full insurance, I paid with my debit card 185€!!!!

This is very baaaad behavior. Never again and be careful, BRING YOUR CREDIT CARD and HAVE A PHYSICAL CARD WITH YOU (they don’t approve digital cards). WT F!

Helpful stuff

New and clean cars. Very helpful and very pleasant employees in the station. We had a small problem with our car (flat tire) and the same day they helped us and gave us a new car. Absolutely incredible. Keep going like this. See you next year.

Don´t go there! Worst experience ever! Watch out SCAM!

Hello,
please stay away from this rental car company. In the beginning they as frequently known try to sell you another insurance for your car. If you have one stay away!
Next our car got damaged on the highway, it just stopped going forwards. Well, how europcar heraklion told you, just call them and they will help you. No, of course not. They gave me a phone number of a towing service. The towing service lady couldn´t talk any english and even with help of greek people we asked at the streets the lady didn´t want to send a towing service in the end. Just to clarify, it was me, my girlfriend and her 8 year old daughter sitting on the edge of the highway at 11 pm. Then i eventually called Europcar Heraklion again to ask for further help, but they said they can´t do anything else. After all i had to call Europcar Athens to actually got a towing service to pick the car up.

The next day I called Europcar Heraklion again to ask for help so we could get another car, so we could get to the airport two days later. Surprise, they couldn`t help.
I then called Europcar Chania, which was closer to get a new car. They immediately assured us to get a new car.
In Chania they charged us immediately the insurance self excess and then handed us the new car.

Three days after returning to Germany Europcar Heraklion charged over 500 Euro unauthorized and just sent me the invoice of the damage. It was a gear damage, clearly not caused by me using the car over a week. At the same time they told me i had to pay for all the damage, because this is not an insurance case, even though i paid the self excess already in the first place... Makes sense right?

So in conclusion this is us a small family of two ICU nurses working hard every day to save human lives, getting completely treated disgraced and cheated on for more than 1000 euros!

I will make this public as much as I can to help people stay away from this company!!!

Great experience!

Our flight was delayed, so we picked up the car a bit after 11 PM, but Eleni and Andreas waited for us and were extremely helpful. They didn't just hand over the car, but also gave us fantastic recommendations for places to visit since it was our first time on the island. The car we received was brand new and in perfect condition, and we had no issues at all. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend them!

Picked up car right near airport late…

Picked up car right near airport late afternoon . Had a problem the following morning , Dimitris dealt with it very professionally and sorted all for us . We have hired for 3 weeks and collection was hassle free .
My husband also left his Ray Ban prescription glasses in car by mistake thank you again to Dimitris for locating them and contacting us to return them .

I rented a car from this company and was initially presented with a vehicle that had been in an accident, which I had to reject. Had I driven this vehicle, there was a high likelihood that the front bumper would have detached on the highway, potentially causing a fatal accident. The vehicle that was finally given to me had a tire that was constantly losing air within the first few minutes of driving. On the day of my return, the car suffered a complete engine failure. The customer service hotline said they could send a tow truck in one hour, which would have caused us to miss our flight. I was forced to order a taxi and pay on-site to get to the airport.

I am still waiting for reimbursement of the taxi expenses. It is highly likely that the vehicles of this company are not properly maintained. Even if this were an isolated incident, a vehicle with defective tires and engine problems should never be given to customers. Instead of trying to find an out-of-court resolution and satisfy the customer, the company has ignored my emails and calls. This suggests that such practices are not rare but rather a part of their routine, paired with a blatant disregard for customer service. Had I not found a taxi, this would likely have resulted in a serious compensation claim, including the replacement of the flight tickets. I do not recommend this company. An international payment order has already been issued and will be served to the company.

They do not respond to emails or calls.

I forgot my bag in the car after we…

I forgot my bag in the car after we returned the vehicle. Realised the next day and contacted them. No response so contacted them again and was told it was still being investigated. After multiple emails and phone chasers for 10 days they just told me they didn't find anything. As a result, bag (which had 230eur in it, got lost or more likely stolen. Whilst I am guilty of forgetting the bag ( in the rush to unload 2 small children and multiple suitcases) Europcar are guilty of negligence for not investigating in a timely manner and ultimately responsible for the theft of someone else's property. Really dissapointed in how they managed the whole process. If they had investigated immediately when I first contacted them, the bag would have been returned. Instead they waited 10 days and in the meantime the car was being rented out. No empathy, no customer service and no morals! There are lots of rental companies out there, it's customer service that makes the difference. Needless to say won't be recommending Europcar!

I had a deeply disappointing experience…

I had a deeply disappointing experience with Europcar, and I feel compelled to warn others. This company exhibits an extreme lack of flexibility and seems to be exploiting customers with their excessive refueling fees. When I was unable to refuel the car myself due to time constraints, they charged an outrageously high fee to top up the tank. This feels like a deliberate strategy to profit at the expense of customers.

To make matters worse, contacting their office is an absolute nightmare. They rarely pick up the phone, forcing you to waste a significant amount of time trying to reach them. When I finally got through, I was met with rude, arrogant staff who displayed no sympathy or willingness to create a positive experience for the customer.

Overall, Europcar’s customer service is appalling, and their business practices are questionable at best. I would strongly advise avoiding this company if you value decent service and fair treatment.

I would have given 0 stars if I could

I would have given 0 stars if I could. We booked and paid in full for a car directly through europcar.

We received booking confirmation with a reminder to bring along your passport, driving licence and credit or debit card in order to collect your car.

Upon arrival, we were told we could not hire the car because we didn’t have a credit card for a deposit, despite the booking confirmation saying to bring a debit OR credit card.

She then told us she couldn’t guarantee we’d receive a refund as in her words “it’s not my fault you’ve not got a credit card, that’s your own fault”…

She was incredibly rude and seriously unhelpful.

We had to contact Europcar UK in order for them to cancel our booking and issue a refund, and they sounded very surprised on the phone that we were not able to hire a car due to having no credit card.

We’ve used Europcar in many different countries for car hire, and have never received service so bad!
