The recent changes to subscription policies is insane. Assuming that they aren't lying about having 20k+ pieces of content, it's impossible to find even 2 percent of their "unlimited" content.

I was a member since scribd. When it switched to Everand I was still happy. Even though you couldn’t get all the content you could on Audible, I was still ok beware I always found so many great things. But now……this is horrible. They still don’t have great content but mostly everything needs to be unlocked. And you can’t even roll over your unlocks. If you forget to use them well too bad. Your money is wasted. Seriously, everyone needs to abandon this ship. I’d rather use Audible now because at least they have way more content.
Why did they ruin such a great app???

Overall, one should just go to the library for books. I know that, however I was in a pickle. A professor didn't post his books for a class and this book was newly in print and I needed it asap, and the library didn't have it, as it was so new, but Everand had it. I took out a 30 day free trial. Upon signing up, they said they'd send a reminder email upon reaching the end of the trial. They didn't and took a whole 16 bucks from me. I know this is my fault, but the blame partially rests on them for not staying true to their word. Also, the reason I forgot about them, was because the platform was super slow on my devices, taking forever to turn pages, and overall just wasn't pleasant to read on. Because of that, I stopped using it immediately upon receiving a physical copy of my book and I promptly forgot about Everand.

Cxld membership and moved on. They took an excellent product and made it terrible. Time to go back to the library for me.

They changed the pricing model and became greedy pigs. I unsubscribed

Showed the book I was searching for and I signed up. But they didn’t have the book available.

I have not been with everand long im still in my free trial but I was actually enjoying it so was shocked with how many 1 star reviews there are here....BUT it also makes sense I accidently used an unlock on an e book when I mean to get the audio version...
I reached out immediately for support....its been about a week now....not a single word from them.
I even submitted a second request just im case but yeah no responses. I can't seem to find a way to get in touch with a human and no one responds to emails I guess.
This has me pretty much rdy to cancel and just go to audible. Its disheartening knowing if a small issue arise I can't do anything about it because your company is almost all robots lol

It’s great until you try to cancel. They continued to charge my credit card for months even after sending messages. Messages were never answered and had to close card to get charges to stop. Never again.
Edit: 4/3/25 They sent an email but then never responded to the answer. Looks good that they responded but it's just a bot.

It's a scam. They entice you to change to the new plan, without telling you you'll pay more to lose thousands of titles....I was a legacy and I deeply regret the switch. I believe I'll cancel the subscription altogether and stick to Audible and free libraries or Spotify.

In the beginning back when it was Scribd, it was great and a great value. But now they are forcing you into their high pricing model. Bye Everand!! Time to move on.

Reply from Everand
It was a really great and affordable option before the recent price change. At first it wasn’t a huge issue but lately every single title that I have searched for seems to need a stupid unlock. If I wanted to pay more for less I would just go back to Audible, at least with them I can get all the new releases.

I have been a subscriber for years. The split of content between Scribd and Everand last year was confusing, but I got used to using two apps instead of one. I loved the breadth of content to which I had access and gifted at least a half dozen annual subscriptions to family and friends every Christmas. I thought since I did not switch to one of the new plans that I would be able to maintain my previous plan, but that only applies to the price. I am still able to access books i finished reading in the past, but very little otherwise. Every title tells me I need a more expensive subscription to access it. All the people I urged onto Everand in the past are as ticked off as me. It used to be a reader’s dream site. Now Amazon Unlimited is a much better deal. I am having a hard time understanding why Everand would think that downgrading customer access and raising prices simultaneously would be a good business model.
ADDED AFTER READING EVERAND FORM LETTER RESPONSE
There is no way these subscription changes are a result of consumer demand. Clearly the company wanted to make more money by providing less value to subscribers. I would be interested to find out how many subscribers they have lost. After being a happy customer for so long, this feels more like a betrayal than a disappointment..

They made their subscription clear this time. I shouldn't have switched over to standard. I'm a voracious reader and so many books that I previously had access to are now locked. The "unlimited" library is total garbage. Once you switch to standard or plus you are not allowed to switch back. It's become the same as audible where you may a monthly membership and can unlock one title with standard and 3 with plus. It's around the same price as audible now. Access to the scribd documents are good. Maybe I'll keep that and drop everand if Audible is a better deal. I already have kindle unlimited and they have a vast collection of works from great independent authors that you can't find here.
Update - It’s worse than I even thought. The one unlock you get per month applies to both e-books and audiobooks. The “unlimited” choices don’t count because they are so bad they are not even worth reading if you can even find them. There are books in there that are well over 100 years old that should be in the public domain that you have to unlock to read. I’m just blown away on how bad this service got and this horrible bait and switch. If it wasn’t for Scribd and its wealth of documents, I would drop this in a heartbeat. I will look for alternatives. As far as audiobooks go, it is no different than audible but they have a bigger collection. RIP to this once great service.

Firstly, I want to say that I truly miss the legacy Scribd when it wasn’t merged with Everand and when it was an unlimited service - customers were in love and happy too. Always the FIRST reading recommendation most of us would give bc it was set apart from even kindle or audible. Ever since the merger it’s been TERRIBLE. Everand has decided they most make more and more money so what do they do, they carbon copy audible/Kindle… to their demise. It’s so unfortunate what greed does to good things. Now, I had a legacy plan (realizing that NOW) and bc I loved the service so much, I thought I’d move up the tier to the unlocked service…. I’m SO angry I did this. They claim there is two catalogs but the unlimited catalog is TRASH. No categories, no variation - just bs books. If I cannot go back to my legacy plan - I am GONE. It’s so disheartening when CEOs grandstand and make decisions solely based on money rather than the VALUE ADD that they bring to a marketplace, which would bring in more customers. Now, the company is going to PLUNGE in sales bc all the legacy folks that loved Scribd/Everand and have had to for years HATE IT. Additionally, they are positioning this move to be based on customers asking for “more transparency” and “more availability” but we all know that’s a lie. They want to get more money. No one was complaining about the legacy format bc it was different - that was the entire allure. The fact that they are trying to sell lies to pretend WE are the reasons for their decisions financially is an even greater turn off. Imagine saying you change a beloved format for “more transparency” whilst not being transparent AT ALL and lying in all of our faces. The irony is not lost on me. I have contacted customer service to see if I can go back to my legacy format. If not, I’ll just maintain my Kindle unlimited. The selection their is better and at least then I know my books are there. Why go with the knock off version of a format when you can have the original. I truly hope they listen to their customer base. I haven’t talked to ONE person that loved Scribd/Everand that is happy with this decision - ALL of them are canceling.

I have been a scribd/Everand subscriber for a few years and I was extremely happy to be able to have the option of ebook or audio book. When the prices went up, I had no issue with that because it was still worth the price.
However, now everything is converting to a "premium" title that requires an unlock, when I was previously able to access them without issue. Some of the titles that I had already downloaded and started reading are now no longer available and require a new "unlock" to access them.
You can change your business model to mimick audible if thats what makes sense to you, but your allure to avid readers was that you were NOT like audible with the one credit per month crap.
Also, making any changes to your account is nearly impossible. So I guess I need to get in contact with customer service now in order to ensure cancelation prior to my next payment in two weeks.

We've been Scribd/Everand subscribers for a few years now. I have a long list of saved books, as most avid readers do. I can't tell you how disappointing it was to one day open my saved list, only to find out each of them is now a "sample". I have to upgrade to read the books that were included in my subscription just the week prior?? I'm glad I didn't upgrade and I look forward to downloading all the local library apps I can find.

Everand cancelled my membership with zero explanation or warning, they first claimed it was my fault so i sent screenshots disproving this. then they blamed my bank, again sent screenshots after speaking with my bank directly. After i disproved every excuse they tried to come up with, they finally admitted that THEY themselves Terminated my subscription manually and will not provide any explanation even though there was no violation. Now they are trying to force me to buy a new more expensive subscription, incredibly dishonest business practice. i am reading through their terms and conditions to submit a report to the better business bureau because they did not honor their 21 day grace period and were dishonest when i inquired and tried to blame my bank. My ENTIRE book club pays for a subscription but now we all have to cancel and move to audible, lots of talk about class actions

I have been a customer for 7 years and always liked it.
Recently, after I have paid for a full year of Premium service, I was refused access to many books and audiobooks. If I want to access these books, I'd need to forget about the 6 more month left in my Premium subscription and sign up for a new, pricey, monthly subscription.
Everand Support is responding to my email with the same type of message every time: "We don't refund and you need to sign up for monthly service".
PS: Only after I posted this review, that Everand "tried" to help me again. They asked for a ticket number but I was never given one to start with. Actively responding to bad review looks good but there isn't a will to actually help, apparently.
Update: I did in fact re-submited my complain using the link given, several weeks ago, and still havent received any response.

I have to agree with reviews I am seeing. I feel like the recent change in subscription plans is more like a scam than a legitimate company. If you are a long time (‘legacy’) subscriber do NOT change your plan!
After being a Scribd/Everand customer for many years I thought the new standard plan would allow access to one ‘premium’ book per month (requiring an ‘unlock’). Imagine my surprise when pretty much every book I had already saved now requires an ‘unlock’ to read! I also understand that there is no list of ‘free’ book either.
The company’s unwillingness to offer existing customers a trial period with the new program just supports my feeling of how deceptive these changes are to subscribers. I have reached out via email as the auto assistant indicated and have received nothing beyond an auto reply.
I’ve recommended Scribd to many friends over the years. This is also one of the very few reviews I have ever written. I now plan to finish my ONE book I have paid to read this month and cancel my subscription.

I have been a customer of Scribd/Everand for years now. It is impossible to get anyone to contact me for customer support. I am starting to wonder if there is anyone even there. I have contacted them via message/email multiple times. I have been having an issue with my credit card not being properly charged and I asked them to contact me.
