EzClear manages the transaction between Customs/Broker and the recipient for ecommerce product entering into Canada Delivery Duty Unpaid electronically. Online retailers often ship to a multitude of countries, often it is too challenging to manage the duties and taxes for each county at check out so they ship internationally on a DDU (Delivery Duty Unpaid) basis. This means that a duties & taxes are collected in once the parcel arrives in country. EzClear is a online method of paying duties and taxes for parcels arriving into Canada.

I hope you like "Surprise Mark Up Administration Fee"

I hope you like "Surprise Mark Up Administration Fee" for a slower delivery system. It's exactly like UPS and FedEx. They will find a way to get money from you. You'll end up paying 50% of the cost of the items, no matter what.

Any other company I dealt with use Canada Post. And you pay the exact price for tax and duties. It's always pennies with Canada Post.

I went on EZClear Inc.'s website, and it seems like Chain Reaction Cycle's name was mentioned once or twice in their reviews, but a lot of the comments refer to "bike parts". As if they're the only company supplying them their easy lifestyle, or at least, one of the major company using their services. They are, in any other form, offering a middle man service to a completely useless process nobody even asked for, or needed at all.

I looked it up, and there's a way for me to pay the taxes directly with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and avoid "Administration Fees", but it's a long and fastidious process that is literally more expensive for me then to pay EZClear Inc.

I understand completely the principle of taxes and normal charges for items that I'm more then willing to pay for. But, you understand this company as no other sole purpose then to generate money from people who got caught in the process for no other reason then their ignorance, like me.

Is there a way to avoid this company? If no, I'll just won't buy the item.

Next time, I'll make sure I'll use either USPS or Canada Post. They never try to exploit people.

Hi Jeremy,
Your particular fee was $7.95. We have never ever charged anything more than $14.50 for goods valued at up to $2500. Anything that comes into Canada has to be declared to CBSA unless it comes postal which falls under a different clearance model for the time being. Goods valued at less than $20 CAD are duty and tax free in Canada.

Our website does indicate that you can go to CBSA yourself and speak to an agent and save the $7.95 but as you said, it isn't worth it for most people to go or they may not live close to a CBSA office.

We are indeed a middleman when retailers don't include duties and taxes at check out because once the items are retrieved from the airport, they absolutely need to move to a bonded warehouse and the data needs to be sent to CBSA and also a customs broker. There is a cost to this part of the process and that is when we are the middleman. We make it possible for some retailers to ship to Canada when they don't know how or don't want to invest in a system for duty & tax calculation at the web check out. Always refer to the terms and conditions of your retailer for these details.

You say you understand the principle of taxes but someone actually has to manage the transaction between the shopper and CBSA ultimately CRA.

Your item arrived from the UK and USPS is not an option, only Royal Mail for this item. You are correct that if the Royal mail handles the export to Canada post there is a chance that you can circumvent the duties and taxes for the time being.

EZclear is a scam

This is my first time doing a review here. EZclear is a scam. Please google it. There are also YouTube videos talking about this scam. I bought something from look fantastic from UK. I received an email from EZclear. They charge very high fees. And duty and custom charge is calculated at a higher rate than that what government would charge you. Please contact look fantastic and make a complaint if you receive EZclear email.

Great customer service rep Maricel . Very helpful and concerned about customer needs. Paying with Ezclear was smooth and convenient since you do not have to go running to Canada post. Canada Post made an error and did not…

Canada Post made an error and did not deliver my package. It was en route to be sent back to the retailer in the UK when thank goodness Maricel from Citilogistics found it and reached out to me! She was incredibly helpful and has redirected my parcel back to me. Canada Post was useless and incredibly unhelpful. Thanks Maricel for helping me fix this situation and being so prompt with your replies!!!

I have been dealing with the Company at which I placed an order with for approximately 7 business days now, as my parcel was imported to Canada 7 business days ago. I had not received any update from the Company or Courier in regards to the whereabouts of my parcel. I had figured I would need to pay duties/taxes on the goods being brought in to Canada however, was not made aware of this 7 business days after being in Canada. I contacted the customer service email of Courier Company as I could not beat around the bush with the purchasing Company any longer. I chatted with Maricel Mendoza. Her services provided me exactly the information I required for my parcel to continue being processed. She was quick to reply, straight to the point, and got guided me through the fees and payment process in order for my parcel to be released. Thank you!!!
