I appreciate your having got it done. The one thing that could have been better was that it was shipped to a wrong address. The FedEx driver called me from an address about 7 miles away. It may have... See more

The people at Fields were easy to work with and were able to recover our data. I have their contact info saved in case there is a "next time".

The data recovered appeared to be intact as far as I can tell, but we still haven't received the drive back.

1/9/2026 I reached out to Field via the phone# on their site and spoke to Collin who was very kind, informative and listened to my concerns, fears and hesitation as to sending my external HD to them with all my family pictures that I had not been able to access on the Toshiba EHDD (Built in 2012) since about 2018 when all it did was click. I had been sitting on it for a while going back and forth due to my research was showing it would be expensive to save and no guarantees of recovery. Life was lifeing and after the loss of 4 family members in 6 months in 2021 and really wanting to get my photo's back I reached out. Collin explained everything in detail and what would happen, what to expect and the potential of recovery or non-recovery, and the potential costs. I bit the bullet so to speak and send the HD in with fear and trepidation on 1/12/2026. I verified it was received and my acting agent Valenzuela reached out to me to confirm and re-iterate everything that Collin had advised me of (Both the reps did state no recovery no pay and devices returned at their expense). I received my 3rd call on day 2 of them having the HD and was advised that I would have 100% full recovery but it was barely hanging on by a thread and I need to pay for the services quickly so they could get it all done (I did feel a little intimidated and pushed by this tactic at first but then thought back to all my research on what has to be done to recover data and how fragile it is and realized it is only fair they get paid for the work before completing it) I was told in the beginning if the heads had to be replaced that was the most costly part (again verified by my research also) and was told by Valenzuela that they had to be replaced 3 times and should have cost me 3K+ however they would only charge me $1500.00 and so I paid the $1500.00 on 1/14/2026 and waited with pensive trepidation as I knew the potential to lose the data was still there and I was worried of it all still being lost and I would lose that money. To me getting over 40K pictures of my family back was worth the money. After paying I did get a little more worried as it did seem that they went quiet on me and it was harder to get a hold of Valenzuela but I reined my fear and pensiveness in and waited and on 1/19/2026 I got a email and text stating that my HD was on its way back to me on 1/20/2026 (YAY and I cried) now UPS tried my patience in getting it (another story on its own) but it showed up 1/22/2026 and I immediately sat down and went through the hard drive and it was all there everything I was missing and I cried again. 13 days from contact to finished. So, with all this being said I will state I do feel like communication on the progress of recovery after payment could be a little better either via email or text, but I would still recommend and use them again if needed. Now to go and enjoy my pictures and memory lane. Thank you Collin, Valenzuela and any other Data Tech that worked on my HD for giving my family back to me.

I had an appalling experience with Fields Data Recovery. They initially promised a 20% discount on any existing quote I had, but once they had my drive, the quote they provided was significantly higher than my previous one. The original representative I dealt with completely disappeared and stopped responding to all calls and emails.
While I was out of the country with limited internet access, another representative named Jxxx contacted me. He was extremely unprofessional and threatened to recycle my hard drive—which contains critical data—if I didn't respond within a single hour. To top it off, they eventually shipped my drive to the wrong address without verifying it with me first. Avoid this company at all costs; they are predatory and unreliable.

The support was great. Very knowledgeable and educational. Everything involved with shipping was great as well. The way that everything that was handled was a great service. Definitely would use again in the future.

The team took care of the drive and recovered the missing data quickly. They even returned my original drive vs its disposal at my request.

Despite the high rating on several sites, I would not recommend Field's Data Recovery to anyone. They are EXTREMELY expensive (my 'recovery' cost almost a 10th of my yearly income * I am a student so my income is not high), which was unsuccessful.
As an experience, I found that I was passed from contact person to contact person. It felt like every other day I had a phone call from someone new. And after the first, 'we need your money to complete this repair' and assurances that 'spending the large amount of money with the drive looking the way it did, they were bound to be successful', no one knew what was going on until the last call of 'we were unsuccessful'.
After requesting that my drive was shipped back and for some report of what they did and what went wrong, I was told that the engineers didn't really talk to regular people/ladies because they typically spoke in technical jargon that people can't understand. I never got a written report.
What I did get is my drive back unsealed (the entire bottom is open and not fitting), a different top and now with a noise associated that was not there before. Aside from being sent regular post despite my continuous expressions of how important this drive is, I only received a tracking number after I specifically requested it.
Overall, I am now going to try to source a professional company to see if there is any hope of recovery after what Field's Data Recovery did to my drive.

100% recovery of my half-century of photos! Pricey, but worth it to me.

Do Not trust this company. We sent in a hard drive. Received a call saying they could see the data therefore they could retrieve it. There was no "maybe, or possibly". They said they could retrieve the data. According to them it was just failed heads and if those were replaced our data would be saved. So, we agreed to the high cost. After we paid, we get another phone call saying our data is lost and they are not refunding any of the money. Micheal was extremely condescending. He would review but it would be the next day because he was taking off the rest of the afternoon. He claims to have reviewed the transcripts of the call and says there was no discussion of the heads at all. Complete lies. I'm not sure they ever thought they could save our data. Do Not send your business to these people. Very untrustworthy.

The technicians Collin Callahan and Ian Smith were wonderful. They were understanding of how upset I was with losing all of my pictures and papers after both my backup hard drives crashed in a 2 week period. They explained the process of recovery and the associated cost. They provided timely status updates and when the flash drive they sent with my data had issues they sent a second one at no cost. I truly appreciate everything they did in recovering my data. I hope to never have to use them again, but if I do need to it will be with full faith of their talents and skills.

After the initial analysis, I was told that the memory on my HD was intact but the translation chip was bad. After evaluation, the cost would be a little over 3k. The data was important, so I agreed and paid. After I paid, I got a receipt that said basically, there was a 50/50 chance, but that wasn't mentioned before I paid. It took them three to four weeks, because they had to order the chip, for me to get the call that they could not recover my data. In the details of the work done, there is no mention of the translator chip. They said in the first part of the details that they extracted the storage chip, but couldn't get any data. Further down in the details, they say they extracted data, but couldn't read it. NOTHING is adding up! I feel like this has been a total SCAM. They apparently weren't planning to send my old HD back, because I had to request it. I wonder if it has even been opened?
Nice canned answer below. I spoke with your representative about this, why do I need to email as well?

FDR was able to recover most all of the data on my crashed Hard-drive. I am very pleased with their service, but hope I never have to use them again!

You got most most of my data back and the 2nd effort was greatly appreciated. Still not tax data but I can live with that.

Appears to be in Calgary but is not.
Contacted me by email even when I did not finish the enquiry form. I replied saying I was not happy about that.
Their Ontario office then woke me at 7:00am with an unwanted phone call.
100% for persistence.
100% for intrusive, pushy sales tactics.
0% chance I will use Fields.
