To be avoided.
James Pettie installed a diesel heater on my narrow boat. He left me with a small leak in the diesel pipe but refused to come back and put it right, saying that I had to have it fixed at my own expense. The new marine engineer took one look and couldn't believe what a bad job James had made of the installation. It would have failed the boat safety certificate on at least 8 points, making the boat unsafe and putting our lives in danger from a potential fire in the engine bay. I went back to James with this information and asked to be refunded the money that I had paid to the second engineer. His response was that if I didn't pay him an extra £3,000 then he would steal my boat. He's now being investigated by the police for attempted blackmail and by trading standards for offering services that he's not qualified to do.
