Very bad Formlab

I'm an expert in 3D printers. I've had the Formlab 4 for a month now, and the quality and tolerances don't live up to the marketing or the price. I feel ripped off. I bought it to support the US industry, but unfortunately, I'll buy another printer, this time from China. I've already thrown it in the trash. I wouldn't dare sell it secondhand. Shame on you, Formlab!

I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase. The customer service team has been incredibly helpful, and I truly appreciate their support. I look forward to getting another Form 4 as our manager continues to scale up the business.

After spending more than $25,000

After spending more than $25,000, I’m very disappointed with this machine. It worked fine for a few prints at the beginning, but since then, achieving consistent, high-quality results has become stressful and unreliable.

Customer service has been practically nonexistent. Instead of helping solve problems, they usually suggest buying more of their expensive replacement parts, such as resin tanks, just to get the printer running again.

The resins themselves are outrageously priced, and Formlabs locks you into their ecosystem. you can’t use affordable third-party alternatives. Even after spending a small fortune on the printer, you’re forced to keep paying inflated prices for resin. To make matters worse, their software’s resin usage estimates are completely inaccurate. If it says one liter will print five parts, expect to get two at best.

In the end, we started ordering 3D-printed parts from China, and even with shipping included, they cost less than producing them on the Form 3. The printer has been sitting unused for nearly a year now.

It’s frustrating to admit, but there are many Chinese printers available for a tenth of the price that perform just as well or even better.

very unprofessional company

very unprofessional company. 2nd machine defect.

in our company first we used the form 2 for 3 years until it went defect. Afterwards they sell us a form 3. This machine is now also defect after 3 years. We only used it a few times a week, so no excessive usage.
Now they only give us again the option to buy the new form 4. No repair service or spare parts for the form 3. A 3,5k€ printer can be put in the bin now. Altough we know the problem and just need to change one part.

Their solution for us is the ne Form 4. They act like they have a big shoot (MSLA technology) but this technology can bought for 500€ from other companys. Also you need a new washing station, new resins etc for this new printer.. The quotation is about 7k€. I cannot put 5-7k€ into a new printer every 3 years because they have a bad quality.

This is a very unsufficient service. I am so angry that I am going to change all the devices now.

I preordered a Form 3L machine in 2020…

Update: Formlabs was unwilling to honor its promises without extracting releases that went far beyond the matter described below. An amicable solution was not possible.

Update: We are negotiating a resolution.

I preordered a Form 3L machine in 2020 and it was delivered in March 2021. When it arrived, the settings for the Castable Wax resin I use were still in Beta. I told Formlabs that I needed them to either come and pick it up or change my warranty period to start when the machine was actually useable for my purposes. They agreed to do that and told me the settings would be ready from August 2021. When August rolled around, the settings were still in Beta, so I told them they needed to further extend the warranty which they agreed to do. I did not actually use the printer for a variety of reasons, but I assumed Formlabs had kept their commitments. In August I purchased a warranty extension since I had plans to use the machine soon and I thought it would be good to use the machine under warranty, since I have needed to swap out several Form 2s. The machines are hit or miss. When they are a hit they are great, but the chances of a miss are, in my experience, quite high. Recently I have had reason to use the Form 3L to produce tall patterns for casting. When I spoke via chat with a formlabs support agent, she revealed to me that the settings for the resin I need to use were not validated until September 2023. So they sold me a warranty extension for a warranty that should not have even started yet. I have communicated with them and they have thus far refused to remedy the warranty situation.

Formlabs £3k Resin Printer in bin after 4 years of use

I bought a Formlabs Form 2 4 years ago, it has just gone faulty and they have told me they will not supply any parts to help fix it. effectively they propose I put it in the bin (or give it them) and buy a new one.. How would you feel after spending £3k on a 3D printer and then being told this?.. think about that before buying one.

All there machines are Beta machines

All there machines are Beta machines. which means the customer is the guinea pig tester. and you will receive no support when problems arise. I bought a form 2 and it worked fine for the first 5 prints. then the print base would start sticking to the resin try. creating a suction and it would just stop. talked to tech support multiple times and the only solution they could come up with was for me to spend $800 on a refurbished machine and send back my original. which would be fine if it was old. but it was less than a year old. and it cost close to $3000 I asked for my original machine to be fixed but they dont do that. its ridiculous to spend that amount of money and less than a year later spend more money for a used machine.

Poor Support For Hardware

Don't support my printer anymore and offer no help to rectify issues apart from guides which say to do 0.08mm adjustments using paper around galvo which is nearly impossible. Expect me to spend thousands on a new printer which is a waste as, its components are fine just needs re-calibrating as it got knocked during transport.
