Lied about everything

I am pretty unimpressed with the dishonesty on their website. They're having a 30% off sale for black Friday so I decided to purchase some new joycons. They offer a10% discount for your first order if you subscribe to their newsletter so I signed up for that and received my discount code. They also offer 15% off if you join their discord page, so I did that too! On top of all that they offer free shipping with any purchase over $25!
However, when I clicked on the checkout to put through my order I found that not only did the shipping discount not work, but both the discord and new customer discounts couldn't be applied during the black Friday sale! This is extremely deceptive and sneaky, but the worst thing was that you changed the currency from NZD to USD when I went to the checkout. This meant that I went from seeing $70 on the website with only the black Friday discount applied (because you automatically add that), to the checkout saying $50 but not telling me that was USD. This initially made me think you'd taken off the other discounts, so I went to put the payment through, but then noticed the shipping and started to question it, because it was more expensive than it had said initially. This led me to look into the price a little closer, which made me click on the drop down menu at the top to discover that they had switched the currency back to USD and that the real price was actually double what the screen was displaying. This coupled with the fake discounts and the bogus free shipping promise made me close the page and look elsewhere for the joycons. All in all pretty disappointing

An actual honest review

I’m writing this review as I feel it’s important that people can actually access an honest review about this company (something I couldn’t find before I ordered). My whole experience has been very disappointing.

I placed an order for a switch case and some thumb grips on 25/1/22 and paid extra for express shipping in the hopes that my items would arrive before I went on holiday. Sadly, this wasn’t the case but I can’t hold this against the company as their website doesn’t state wether express shipping times include weekends or not. The issue I have is that I never received any form of order updates or tracking info for my items. I got an initial order confirmation email but nothing else after. On 3/2/22 I sent a second email (the first went unanswered) asking for an update on my order, since as far as I was concerned, my order hasn’t even been despatched by then. I got a response the following day to say that my order should have arrived. I was away on holiday by that time but luckily a family member checked and confirmed that the item had arrived the day before. But why was there no order updates or tracking information sent via email? Not even a confirmation of delivery.

When I returned from holiday, I came back to find that one of the items wasn’t what I ordered. Instead I had received a switch case of a different design. The thumb grips, however, were correct and I can’t fault the quality of them. Whilst the case was the wrong design, it was the same type of case and I was disappointed with the quality of the item. There is no kind of lining on the inside to protect my switch and some very sharp edges that could potentially scratch my screen. The stitching is very rough. When I finally do receive the correct design I will be adding a protective lining myself and smoothing out any rough edges (not something I expected to have to do).

I sent an email regarding the wrong item I had received and got a fairly quick response apologising for the inconvenience and offering to send the correct item, however, 6 days later there was again no updates, no despatch notification and no order tracking. I sent another email asking for an update and got a reply promising an update within 24 hours. It has been over 24 hours now with still no update and no confirmation of my item being despatched. It is now 9 days since my initial email explaining that I have received the wrong item.

All in all my experience has been pretty disappointing and my order hasn’t gone smoothly at all. I feel this could be pretty easily fixed if Funlab was to actually send order updates and tracking info (as they state they do on their website).

I would also be wary of a lot of the reviews on products as I don’t believe them to be a true representation of the items. When I used reviewmeta to check other reviews of the company, over 9,000 of the reviews were deemed “unnatural” and removed which leads me to believe that most of these “reviews” are fake and paid for.

I was surprised that there was no reviews for this company on trust pilot so I wanted to write this so that others can have a reliable review to read. I’m sure there will be other customers who have had a better experience but I felt it was necessary to share mine for a bit more transparency.
