Having purchased a set of Bi-fold gates from this company.
When the order was placed we were assured of a delivery date. This date came and went with no sign of a delivery date, one month later the Gates arrived.
On inspection of the Gates, two of the gates where in twist by a considerable amount. Having emailed the company, the response was that the weather conditions can effect the stability of the timber.
As these gates had only just been delivered, how can the weather be an issue.
The company has failed to respond to my last email, asking for the two gates to be replaced.
Word of warning, should you place an order with this company. They will not replace their substandard products.
This our experience of using this company.

I believe one of our Customer Service representatives has been in contact with you with regards to your products and has offered a couple of things to put a resolution in place and is waiting on a reply from you.
As per the picture you have sent across and our representative has mentioned, we do not recommend cuprinol as a stain on the gates, as mentioned in our emails. Even though this would not cause warping in gates within a day or two, over time, this dries out the timber and as our timber is already dried, this can cause warping and splitting within the timber.
Replacing the 2 leafs of gate is not something we can do unless the warping is completely evident on a flat surface, or back with us on site and a fault is shown with the products.

I ordered gates and metal posts from…
I ordered gates and metal posts from this company and had checked before ordering that the posts would be pre-drilled to take the hinges and received that confirmation in writing. The posts arrived un-drilled and upon contacting the customer services, they apologised for their mistake but advised that posts are never pre-drilled and that is down to the fitter. The hinge bolts provided were also for wooden posts. I came to the realisation that it’s now down to me to resolve the issue.

Fantastic Company with great bespoke products
We have ordered two gates (side gate and front gate) from Gates and Fences, both within the last year. Both times the products have turned up in perfect condition and look great. The ordering process was very easy and their customer service team could not have been more helpful. The delivery team (we had Paul and Simon most recently) are fantastic also.
Lead times were both a couple of weeks longer than estimated, but on the whole we couldn’t be happier.

Highly recommend!
I ordered driveway gates and a matching side gate and all painted in a customer colour. I paid extra for an express order as I needed the gates in a rush. The price for the gates, custom paint and delivery was very good value for money. I had looked at lots of different companies none of which offered the range of styles and sizes or the ability to have the gates painted in a custom colour. The whole ordering process from start to finish was easy, thank you Kerstin. I had email updates relating to my order progress and delivery, thank you Lesley. The gates were ready quicker than expected and were delivered today by 2 lovely chaps Gary and Chris! The look is great and the custom colour is spot on. Although the gates have yet to be fitted, so far I’m delighted with the look. Overall the customer service of Gates and Fences has been excellent. Thank you for making the whole process so simple and efficient from beginning to end.

Failed gates for Joinery Contractor
I had used this company a few times before and generally had never had any issues. Our last experience has been extremely bad though. My Company purchased a set of double timber vehicle and single pedestrian gates for around £2,200. Initially when we went to install we noticed the underside for the gate was not painted. Probably the most vulnerable part of the gates. The company's response when I reported this was that is to allow any excess moisture in the timber to escape. We then primed and painted ourselves.
About 3 months after install we noticed the ironmongery began to rust heavily. After reporting this the company they agreed to reimburse us of replace the ironmongery. We took the replaced but obviously had to refit at our own costs.
Another month or 2 later we noticed a number of the timber linings begin to move and split significantly. when reported I received the following resposne:
'Thank you for your email and images, I can only apologies you are experiencing this issue as timber is a natural product I’m afraid splits are to be expected and regrettably not something we are able to prevent. I am able to provide you some filler and harden to fill the splits as a gesture of good will. I will also check with the paint team to see if we have any of your chosen colour left and can have this dispatched to you also.'
This was not acceptable to us or for our own client and as a result we have replaced the timbers at our own cost which will be around £1,000. When removing the old timbers we found that all the timber was only surface painted. All Joints and cover pieces were left as virgin material not even primed which I find an extreme shortcut product for an external grade product and it’s unsurprising the gates failed so quickly (less than 6months). We won’t be using this company again, and unfortunately I feel there’ll be more upkeep to come on these gates in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. On our wooden products we do not paint the underside, this is to allow for moisture to come down the gate and release from the bottom. This is standard on all of our wooden gates have have done this since the company started making products.
As timber is a natural products, splits can happen. Relooking over the images, the splits have come from the bottom of the gate and as you mentioned you have painted over the bottom of the gate which is the one area we leave exposed to allow for moisture to come out of the bottom so it does not get trapped.
Prior to our products being assembled, we paint the tongue and groove section for the reason of if any natural movement happens, the wood exposed will still be the same colour as the rest of the boards. This is also something we have been doing in the factory for quite some time.
We recommend upkeep of all of our painted and stained products, 4 weeks after initial coat, 6 months then 12 months then after. This is to help with the lifespan of the timber.

missing items and now rust!!!
I ordered a Kingston gate metal and wood January 2024 it was delivered mid March. hinges were missing and no keys or handles. Replacements were sent, but not the keys for the existing lock so I had to drill out the old lock as new keys came with new lock barrel. Now fifteen months on the metal frame is rusting after paying extra for the long life zinc primer not happy!! Called sales team only to be told it was my fault for not maintaining the frame by painting it each year! but its just over a year!! The rust has bubbled the paint off in places. So don't bother paying extra for LONG LIFE coating as it has a very short life and go somewhere else would be my advice....

Please accept our apologies for the problems you have encountered with your order from us, from missing items and the rusting on your products.
We do recommend, and send out reminders to our customers advising to maintain their items, after 6 months and 12 months. This applies to our wooden and metal products. Unfortunately any item that is left outside will show signs of wear after time if not cleaned and maintained (a car is a great example). The long life finish will not stop rusting however this is a thicker top coat so helps to eliminate any problems that may occur.
I believe one of our colleagues has been in contact with regards to the rusting. If there is anything we can do please do not hesitate to contact us.
